Is it possible to purchase more photo album space for premium members, as my album is almost full. Or is it just a set limit.

Thanks.

If you have every image at the maximum 500KB (unlikely), you can upload 2,097 pictures.

I think that'll be enough storage for a while.

When you go into your profile and select networking then select pictures and albums. you can create an album. I have created an album, but I am only allowed to upload 60 photos maximum. If I create another album, I can't upload any photos to it because I have already used up my space of 60 photos in my previous album.

This is why I am asking if it's possible to purchase more space to add more photos to another album.

Sorry. I misunderstood. :dunce:

I just double checked and you are correct - even if you have multiple albums, you can only have a total of 60 images, thus making the 1Gb limit irrelevant (60 x 500Kb = 0.00286Gb.

In my opinion the limit of images should simply be increased. I would think having a 1GB limit and a 60 picture limit was accidental.

would be nice to have more space for photos. I got loads of car photos on my PC that i'd like to upload to my profile album.

I don't think it's an issue of buying more space. It looks more to me like a setting or two needs some adjusting.

Jordan will take care of it (provided it's an option) when he sees it (and has time).

Wow, I'm sorry about that! I have to blame my mistake on our forum software's documentation - it had virtually identical names for two very different settings. :ouch: Premium users should now be able to make full use of their space with 2,000 images, with a limit of 100 for everyone else.

And he'll probably see it sooner if you move this to the Site Feedback forum. ;)
Very true. :) Thanks for bringing this up. 👍

Told 'ya he'd take care of it.

Thanks, Jordan!

Amd I right in saying that the 60 picture limit is just the number of pictures you can add to any one album? And does the 2,000 pic limit apply to mods too? :p (I hope so, since I am up to 56 images already!)

I just made a second album and it said I had 60 images left that I could add while my other album stayed at 53 remaining.

Jordan, was just wondering...

The new albums only allow pictures sized up to 800x600 (or something similar) but previously we were allowed much larger sizes in the exsisting album area. This means that when posting things like scans or articles you can't read it :indiff:

How come the new system can't take large images like the previous one? I have to put a link to the exsisting gallery to let someone know were they can get a higher resolution and if that area is going to eventually be shut down what can I do?

Thanks,

Robin

I noticed the same thing as Robin.
A moment ago I wanted to upload a picture size 1920x1000 (128KB JPG) for use as the main background for my profile, but the picture gets resized.

It shouldn't. The max file size is 500KB and only gets resized if it's larger than that. I managed to upload a photo of 1920x1080 without any problems. If I want to upload a photo of that size, then I just try it without any other photos uploading along with it.

You're right. max file size is 500KB.
But right under that is says max dimensions 800X600 Pixels.
Pictures will be made smaller if they are bigger than 800X600, even if the filesize is below 500KB.

What DD said - I have a fantastic picture I want to use as my profile background, and I want it to stretch all the way across the screen at 1024x768 res.

It gets automatically resized from 1024 x 1037 to 592 x 600 upon uploading, even though it's only 94kb.

Any chance the dimension limit can be increased to, say, 1280 x 960 (as that's considered the norm for wallpapers etc these days)?

Or just remove the pixel size limit and leave the file size limit.

👍

If that's not viable, then set it to something quite large, such as 4000x4000.

Well i've managed to UL plenty of 1920x1080 photos, and they will display full size in my profile display? I prefer the multi pic option though.

Then why are all your pictures in all your albums 800x600?

If they were 1920x1080 they would fit nicely on my screen. Now they're just small pictures that take up only a small area.

Yes the pics are scaled to 800x600, but if I select the single option in the pic display menu while customising my main profile settings, it will appear larger in your profile.

Our old photo gallery software allowed you to click on the "medium" sized version of the image to be taken to the original. Our forum software's album system re-sizes the original and does not store an unaltered version, therefore it is impossible to provide this same functionality. I chose 800x600 as the default dimensions because it won't force the majority of our visitors using a 1024x768 screen resolution to scroll horizontally to view the images. If the vBulletin developers allow the full version to be stored and viewed in future versions of the software, I will be glad to change the settings. If you have the need for hosting single large files, I recommend using our post attachment option or Imageshack.

Keep in mind the image would only be "stretched" for you and other 1024x768 visitors. Although they are the majority, they still only make up 25% of our visitors, while nearly all of the others are using a higher resolution. This will make your image "tile" for all of them, which is what you are trying to avoid. Ultimately, if you want to use a background image, it's best to choose one that tiles well either vertically, horizontally, or both.

Good point. 👍

Fortunately, my background image tiles well in both directions, so I guess it doesn't matter that it has to tile. :)
