I'm assuming a Sony Cybershot camera in hard drive mode will work like a champion, I could be wrong but I think it will work : ), maybe even an Ipod will work??

So which brands of flash card definately work? I'm tempted to just buy a little 16/32 meg one just for the photo mode (it should cost barely anything so why not).

i'm using the following:
Media Gear USB 2.0 7-in-1 (i think) memory card reader

PQI 256mb Hi-Speed Compact Flash Card
serial number: AC92S6I4112N01010B0130024 (if that's needed for reference)

works GREAT :) 👍 the PS2 didn't prompt me to see which slot to write to or anything...it auto detected where my CF card was plugged into and wrote directly to it.

oh, i needed to run it through photoshopCS for archiving purposes and it got resized up to 400+kb...original is 110kb. when i resaved it, i did maximum image quality so don't worry bout that 👍

I have a Dell Digital Jukebox which can also be used for data storage.

Do you think this would work, here's a diagram.

[PS2 USB] [USB from Cable]-----------[Other USB Cable End to Connect to my Dell] [Dell DJ]

So basically what I am saying is that it's not a direct connection. Like it's not stick the USB flash drive right into the PS2, you need a cable to transfer it onto the Dell DJ. Can it transfer itself along the USB cable from the PS2 to the DJ, do you guys think?

I will admit that I have not read through this entire thread. However, what I would like to know is, with PhotoMode, does it save the photos to the memory first, and THEN, you can transfer them to a USB drive, or do you have to save them to a USB drive immediately? Thanks :)

If you see maskriders pictures about the photomode you can indeed save as --> memory card or usb stick.

I want to know that a external hard disk from maxtor works on the PS2, a freecom 128mb USB flashdrive (www.usbstick.com) works and a card reader with MMC(Multi Media Card) from 512 mb will work?

1000kb is one MB if that makes it any clearer for ya.

What you say isn't correct. It's actually 1024 kilobytes in a megabyte. However, 1000k = +-1MB so that is more easy to calculate.

1024 KiloByte = 1 MegaByte
1024 MegaByte = 1 GigaByte
1024 GigaByte = 1 TerraByte
1024 TerraByte = 1 PetaByte
1024 PetaByte = 1 ExaByte
1024 ... and so on (ZettaByte, YottaByte, ...)

Until now the latest I know is a number of bytes equal to a 10 followed by 100 zeroes (!) but I forgot the name of that Byte specification.

I hope I helped you further with this.

Nice pictures indeed

But its something strange at the picture of the nissan skyline. The background looks blurry(not sharp) Is that with use of a special filter? or is it just like that?

Well a google is 10 to the 100th power. So a number with a hundered zero's.

So 1.024¹ºº would be a Googlebyte?

my USB Sandisk Mini 128MB doesnt work in photomode :(

i get an error when its trying to save
Try reformatting it on your PC using FAT32 and try again...

It's been discussed on another thread.
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=52835

The first compatibility list indicated the SanDisk Cruzer Mini as not-working, but The Locust got his Mini 256MB to work (check post #86). So, it may work for you too!

Talking about formatting--> My USB stick was chrashed (Yes even that can chrash) and I had to format it. But now it is ****ed up and when I put files on it and open it on an other PC some files are edited and became weird.

e.g.: I placed html files for my site on that to show it to my friend on his PC and they were screwed. You still could open them but the layout had changed etc.

Its strange

It's somewhat surprising that no one ever thought of that before. Most modern storage devices use the NTFS file system and the PS2 was released prior to the development of NTFS, so it makes sense that the PS2 wouldn't recognize a foreign file system.

And about the saving times to the USB stick .. that can probably be explained similiarly: USB2.0 wasn't developed until about a year after the PS2 came out, IIRC. So therefore the PS2 has USB1.1 drives which run vastly slower than their 2.0 counterpart. So thats more than likely the reason for the slow saving time.

I know that i'm gonna try the cable before paying for a USB drive. There's no reason the cable shouldn't work.

Well, you guys can call me old-fashioned or simply a cheap bastard, but I'm still using Windows 98SE (my PC is severely out-dated, but as I bought the PS2 for gaming, my humble PIII 866 with a Voodoo5 card is used only for work, internet browsing and music/video downloads, aside Live for Speed, which runs fine on it). So, formatting my Cruzer Mini using FAT32 is easy. Do you, evolved and modern XP guys have any option to format an external media using FAT instead of NTFS?

See Lee's face? He (just like me) wants GT4...

Yes, when you right click on the USB drive under My Computer it gives you an option to format it. IIRC when my dad was running Windows 98 had that option as well .. although I don't remember if you could format it under NTFS though as that file system came out years after W98 did.

For my USB drive anyway, when I go to format, the only options that come up are FAT, and FAT32, there are no options to format it using NTFS (and I'm running Windows XP Pro).

Actually now that I look at it, the only options are FAT and FAT32 .. so what I said about the file system two posts ago doesn't really hold. Maybe the PS2 is only set up to recognize a FAT32 file system? Good call on that Majarvis, the funny thing is that about 20 minutes before I posted that, I formatted BOTH of my USB drives to FAT32 from FAT,. So maybe its just that the PS2 doesn't recognize a FAT filesystem?

Perhaps, but I think one of the things that influences whether or not the PS2 recognizes the USB drive is, sometimes manufacturers will format it a special way (if they include special software with it for example) so that may have some effect. Also, maybe it just needs a "refresh" making sure it actually is formatted (sometimes USB drives will come not formatted).
It may not even be either of the scenarios I mentioned, but being that the very meaning of USB is Universal Serial Bus, it should be universal and work on anything that supports USB... but we know that with PC components, this is never the case.

Ive had my 256mb PNY Attache flashdrive for a couple years and never had single problem. You can get one of these for about $35 or cheaper now. Didnt need any software and I can swap from PS2-computer at home-then comp at work. :D
I could easily fit at least 853 fully detailed GT4 pics on it.

I am getting this flash drive:

So this should work.

I use an external USB Hard Disk and it works. At first I didn't think it would work because the progress bar while saving wasnt moving. It took about 30 seconds and then it saved fine. My external disk is a regular Hard Disk in an USB enclosure.

Mine was the same, I have one of these Play.com USB 2.0 256mb Memory Stick I had the option to format as FAT or FAT32. I haven't Formatted it yet, should I before trying to save images?

Once you save pictures to the flash drive can you look at the pictures on ps2, or do you have to view them on a computer?
