Photomode is not a graphics enhancer

What a fight!

If you have Prologue, look at the pictures on the back of the box, then compare that to the actual in game graphics...

The picture of the Subaru posted by usernamed is awsome, but that one frame probably took a minute to render on its own. The trees are individually modelled!

If you are expecting images like that flying around at 40fps, you might be dissapointed.
Gameplay is most important, not "prettiness", and frame rate is what gives the sensation of speed.
If you double the resolution the memory needed to display it, is increased Four times. In game res will be low in order to keep frame rate up.
PS2 is quite an old machine now.

...putting on armour in prep of CobraGT onslaught..:)

look at how bloody sharp they are, I have yet too see a PS2 game that sharp, that's all I meant.

Congratulations, you managed to remain oblivious to one of the key points of this entire thread - you're not looking at a game when you see a Photo Mode pic, you're looking at a deliberately rendered single frame. No game could look as sharp because instead of taking seconds to render that one frame, it has to take 1/60th of a second, so corners are cut.

Stuff on the xbox? Riddick? Halo 2?

Thank you for bringing this relevant discussion to the thread. We don't care about your Xbox fanatacism or your extra 79 million polygons a second.

he has this thing where he thinks the PS2 is a super computer, and can do graphics better then a pc.

Perhaps he was one of the people to read those articles about the PS2 being banned from sale initially in China (granted I don't know if there was every a resolution to it) on the grounds it's essentially a 'supercomputer' by their standards. And 'PC' is so generic that a PS2 can indeed render graphics better than some PCs, and the fact that 3 year old hardware that was surpassed before release can still even remotely compete with the PC titles emerging to this day is a testament to the design and power of the architecture behind the PS2.

Code kev comes in when the whole debate is over with. Why bring up xb titles? To tell you the truth, nothing on the xb looks as good as gt4. Photomode locals dont look a billions times better, what are you, 10? Using a dumbass statement like that. I never said the ps2 was a super comp, dont go putting words in my mouth man so you can try and make your damn point idiot. Gt4 might not have better graphics than any pc game or xb game, but gt4 sure as hell looks alot better than any pc or xb game on the scene. And please dont run me over with poly count, AA and all that mess. Gt4 doesn't have a jag problem like old ps2 games. Most ps2 games are indeed looking smoother. btw kev, shut the hell up and look at that paris vid. That vid looks as good if not better than those photomode pics. I didn't see any jaggies in that vid, so gt4 is very smooth. Everyone I know who have played gt4 at e3 says it's very smooth. And you know those falken pics? Good friend of mine who went to E3 said the cars looked that smooth and he was looking at the Falken pics. So dont go around saying, photomode just kills gt4's ingame graphics.

If you ask me, Photo Mode is as it says. It is a mode seperate from GT4's normal gameplay. I'm not going to jump into PS2 vs. XBOX because I don't want Code_kev being involved. Anyhow, if you ask me, a lot of people think that the PS2 is done until PS3 comes out. (light laugh) Yeah. Wait until Gran Turismo 4 and Metal Gear Solid 3 come out. THEN decide if the PS2 is done for.

Anyhow, there will be some here-and-there quirks. But if you ask me, I don't really care. Even if GT4 looks like GT1 and has a frame rate of heavy traffic in GT2, I can still care less. Photo Mode will just mean that for every car in my garage, I'll be able to make my own photo collection of the cars. So I can ride in a Toyota GT-One Road Car (like the one I used to pick up McLaren'sAngel in her "Help! People Say I Don't Deserve...White Boi" thread) on the streets of Shibuya and take pictures of it... and any other Japanese hotties that walk the streets looking at my sexy ride. I can rally race around that course where the McLaren F1 is in under18carbon's avatar, but in a Subaru Impreza WRC. American flavor? Sure. A Ford GT around Amalfi. How about a Mini Cooper in the Akasaka district of Tokyo (which I thought was Tokyo R246)? No matter what, I don't see Photo Mode as an enhancement to graphics. It's just something to stir an already delicious pot.

The Tokyo R246 is in Akaska which is why you somethimes see the track called Akaska. As for photomode it will offer many different films, lenses and filters to tweak a picture but ti will do it all at a higher res than 640 x 480 which the game is played at. Theres no debate over what photomode offers just over which pics are taken from photomode which is a debate that is over as far as I'm concerned as we don't know for sure until more info is released or GT4 is released.

In the "Game Reviews" forums, I made a thread sometime back called "My Confessions About Project Gotham Racing 2." Did you take a look at it? I will admit that even though I'm anti-XBOX, PGR2 is quite pleasing to the eyes, even if it isn't Gran Turismo. I mean, the detail in the cities and the cars are amazing. Now, I've played the Yokohama street race, the Florence time trial, and that cone thing in Chicago. I still liked the game, but not as much as the GT series. Oh, and PGR2 had car damage, so everytime I screwed up, I know I'm p*ssing off at least one representative of some car company.

Now on to the PlayStation 2. A lot of people gave an awful lot of doubts about GT4 whether it was graphics, maybe sound, maybe physics, AI, that sort of thing. My suggestion? DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT! Fear not. Restrain yourself from boo-hooing. The Photo Mode is simply there to please the eyes and to have a little fun with. I mean, it's like Anna Kournikova's Sports Illustrated swimsuit pictures. Let's not further bash on the XBOX or on Code_kev. After all, I'm sure the Cobra/Code_kev rivalry is the Army/Navy, Ohio State/Michigan, Duke/UNC (better known in college basketball), or even USC/UCLA. Also sure it's been around even before my arrival to the Planet. So easy on XBOX and Code.
