I wouldn't guess it'd be too awful bad, but really anything you get is going to be expensive. I'd suggest putting the car in one of your parents' names unless you have a hella job and can afford that insurance.

But really, it's about the price. $2800 is pretty cheap. I'd suggest the only reason it's that cheap is because it's in crappy shape, or the fact that it's an automatic. I'd buy that automatic car if it cost $5, and then I'd part it out. The only problem with being able to part out a car like that is that I'd have this lump of an automatic tranny sitting in my garage because nobody wants it.

Go check the car out to get an idea, but I'd avoid an automatic one at all costs.

Looking at Wiki, it appears the '92-'93 GS-R's are pretty rare, so I'd try and pick it up for cheap.

I'm gonna echo these two and say to give it a good look. The auto kills any fun the engine would be, but otherwise GS-Rs are good from what I've heard...Make sure its in solid shape to not leave you stranded or become a money pit as your first car, however.

As I found a better offer, same price, for a better condition 94'. 11AM tomorow im going to look at it, maybe throw some cash down. I'll bring pictures home with me!!!

Thanks guys, Pic's tomorow round 2 or 3, I don't have a say in the auto-manual situation, My father hates standards, and He's buying the car, so I shall abide via his rules, this is the first, and only auto im buying. I love driving sticks, much more comfortable...

'94 GS-R?

I would say avoid the 92-93 GS-R, that 1.7liter doesn't have much of an after market. And automatic Honda compacts are just... blah.

You should tell your dad it is your car, and offer to pay him back or something. A '94 Integra with a stick would be a blast, but an auto would seem just... dull.

I say go ahead with it. A first car isn't something you should spend money on modifying anyway. I've wasted thousands of dollars on two cars already and I wonder where I'd be now with that money and the knowledge I've gained since then. I didn't know crap about cars when I first started buying stuff for my old Cavalier.

Just get it, don't mod it, learn, and save your money for something better when the time comes.

My sister had a 1993 Integra GS-R, and it was an absolute blast to drive. She had the manual, though ;).

Yeah, I can't totally agree without modding it, for im crazy into that scene, and its pretty big around my area *Peer pressure >.<* But i'm not going to put thousands into this. Not unless its needed. Nor am i going to put money into it I dont have...

I still have my first car, which I've modded quite a bit (including new engine!) You don't have to wait to modify it, but your choice. I also agree that you should let your dad know that you want a stick and that you'd offer to pay him back if it means you getting what you want.

I tried that theory. He just wants me to learn on the auto, then if i run into money, i can swap the tranny. Whats a Standard tranny, 1500? Anyways! I purchased the car today! Here's the pictures while I was at the guys house!!!! Its so nice for my first, easy to drive, fun.

Got it for 2,850, Guy had to pay off some Slip or something for life insurence, wouldent go any lower. Runs Great.

One reason you probably shouldn't spend money modifying your first car, Honda or not: you'll eventually find out where and how to buy the parts you want. I could probably find an applicable trans for less than $500. But there's a lot more to swapping a transmission than that, which is also something you'll learn. I have no idea what all is involved, but stuff from sensors to interior panels to pedal assemblies needs to be changed.

But either way, good job buying a Honda. Hopefully the auto doesn't ruin the experience. Ask Azuremen, who is a Toyota guy, just how much Hondas get under your skin. It's not even funny how they suck you in. Honda does not become you, you become Honda. Forever, I think.

Yeah, that get under your skin. Though, keep in mind, at the point I finally got around to getting one, I had a clear idea of exactly what I wanted.

And while I like the car, I still tend to hate the user group, so to speak. Like the EG6 I saw/heard with a terrible exhaust, 17 inch wheels, stock ride (so it was raised with the wheels) the middle spoiler thing, and so on.

A transmission swap isn't that bad. It is the converting to manual that is. You'd need the ECU, transmission, cylinders, pedal, cut the fire wall, lines, linkages, cut the shifter area, mount everything up, and such. And you have an LS (From what I can tell), which you can upgrade, but would be better to find a more solid starting platform, I'd say a mid to late 90's GS-R. Been seeing them get cheaper and cheaper.

Well im cool with what I have, when i sell it, if i turn somewhere around 3000 (plan on cleaning it up, adding little bits) (I'm quite responsible with my stuff thats expensive) I'll worry about that then when getting a new car later on, But right now, this things great for multiple reasons
A.) Its MY car
B.) Free!!!! (Parents purchased)
C.) NOt too bad insurence, 97$ a month

qft :d

Edit* That's weird. That should be a smiley & all capital letters. Works anywhere else in the forum.

Nice 'Teg :) Even if it's auto you've still got a good looking car there, and let's face it: being your first car, you won't really care what transmission is has, because every chance to drive it will be awesome anyway 👍

Thanks! Exactly, Everytime my parents go somewhere I drive just because I can... haha!

I believe that Integras along with Civics are easier to break into. It was probably the earlier models though.
