Pics in signatures

Jordan, would you enable it so that we can post pics in our signatures?

I have some sweet ideas...

That sounds like a very stupid idea to me.

Have you thought of the bandwidth? Just think of the waste the "How many replies can we get" thread in the Rumble strip would cause if a couple people had pics in their signatures.

Once they've been downloaded by the user they will be cached for future referance. It was the idea before he moved to the new server, but I think the new reason would have more to do with a consistancy to the look and feel of the website. If he starts letting everyone put images in their signatures, it will get crazy ugly before too long.

Please, please, please DO NOT allow pics in signatures. Who here really wants to see the same 800x600 image one hundred times? Not me. And even though you can turn sigs off, many of us roam computers at work, school, grandma's house, jail, et al don't bother for a mere 10 minutes of 'net time.

Animated avatars, overuse of smilies, and super-long signatures are already part of the "game", but pics in the sigs is a waste of time for everyone.

All in all, this is a great forum; well divided with categories unlike the mess the GTF's non-GT categories were turning into. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for your support, however ... I feel I must inform you on a few points. In the "My GTPlanet" section, you can turn off all the items that you have listed as annoying. I personally do not view signatures, and images in the posts and the avatars can be turned off as well by the members. Also, when you save your preferances, when you log on somewhere else you will be loading the same preferances. It's on an account basis, not on a computer basis.
