Hi all, I was thinking of a picture caption game, similar to the formula1 picture caption game, but where the winner of the previous week will supply a picture which he has taken. (could include rules like must have a car in picture etc.) i think we can get some good laughs here if we work it right.

open to suggestions / feedback / flaming etc.

I have searched for a similar thread.

Let’s see…suggestions…hmmm…don’t have any really…(this isn’t working) let’s try flaming…nah…there is nothing here to flame…what’s left?… Oh, yes, feedback.

Well, this seems like a great idea but, can you develop better? So that we can have a clean idea of it. Like, what type of captions will be used? (I suppose funny ones, since we are in the Comedy Corner); Examples of captions (just to visualize better the idea)…

I guess its a good idea. depending on how many people play it and what pics are use, maybe pictures form the weeks news...
thats a decent Idea and a third!

I think news pictures can work.

1 week to get a caption, the next week voting while anotyher picture is posted, then th 3rd week the winner of week 1 posts a picture.

keep the ideas coming!!👍

Caption comps have been tried many times before, and the general lesson we've learned from them is 1) have a clear theme, 2) keep it well organised, 3) try to keep the pictures 'topical' or atleast up-to-date (definitely in the case of news pictures) and 4) you may want to figure out a voting/scoring system well in advance, rather than not having a scoring system at all or making it up as you go along. (By 'clear theme', however, you could always have a different theme each week...)

I wanted to start a news picture caption game but I didn't since I'm already doing the F1 game... keeping the F1 caption game running alone actually takes atleast 30-40 minutes every week - doesn't sound like much, but it is quite a commitment if you plan to run the contest indefinitely... one potential problem with news pics, however, is that it's difficult to find pictures that are even remotely funny and it's even harder to find pics that everyone knows something about (i.e. US news is very different to UK news - unless we want pics about the Iraq war every week )

Word dawg, I'm down with it G. Lets get this party jumpin'!

Excellent idea my friend, I completely concur...I say, why don't we begin this shindig?

I agree with my linguistically challenged friend :sly:

maybe news might not work as well as hoped, but is it vital that everyone must know exactly what is going on the in the picture? seeing as the caption can be to do with anything in the picture, and does not have to be the official story.

I'm sure the subject doesn't really matter. As long as whoever it is who posts/chooses the picture explains what/who is in the picture and why it is current news (if it is news) a caption doesn't have to reflect what makes the picture relevant.

For those who have seen Lee Evans
