The guy is Ari Vatanen, a Paris-Dakar driver these day's and he used to be a worldrally driver to. He's also a swedish politician. That run we saw was the record on the Pikes Peak for a very long time.

From www.worldrally.net

Ari Vatanen, Finland

Ari Vatanen is one of the living legends of rallying. His international break was in '76 British Rally Championship and first WRC win in Acropolis '80. He was the World Champion in 1981 with a David Sutton Ford. Almost fatal accident in Argentina '85 did not stop him and he moved succesfully to Rally Raids. He returned last year to WRC and he is still just as fast as any top driver. Ari is a very nice personality, openly religious and his trademark is a glass of milk instead of the winner's champagne. In 1995-97 he drove succesfully Rally Raids for Citroen. Since that he has appeared in some WRC events, just driving for fun.

My own thought: Vatanen always tried his best and drived as fast as he could. Even when he's leading the rally, when it could be smart to slow down a bit. Sometimes it worked and sometimes result was big accident like Argentina or small crash and retirement.

Nice one Alex, top notch video you go there. 👍 I hope this makes a return to the series, it was a great course and the only reason to use the Pikes Peak in GT 2.

Wow, cool topic! I remember my first Pikes Peak Hill Climb on GT2. Driving that Escudo PP Version was excilerating. But the only problem I had with it was that HUGE wing. It doesn't block your view that much, but it was annoying.

btw, wouldn't it be cool if there was a road track version of Pikes Peak? Only a downhill version, though. An uphill battle will be unrealistic because I don't think road cars can survive without enough oxygen up there.
