Introduction
Welcome, I'm GTP_Wanna_B formerly known as Cashwars and hopefully along with my partner in organizing events GTP_JackStanley we are going to run the PL Challenge Series, it's an idea we intended to use in the SixAxis Championship but PD decided not to have a World Event in expert races, so I/we(hoping he decides to help me out) have decided to run a new event.
What does PL stand for? Pit lane, more about that later.
Condition of participation
1. As no World Event in expert mode, open to PAL users only.
2. Racer must be available to race their group events in the evenings here in the UK, so any US/AU etc PAL users need to be available at a time matching UK evenings.
3 Any racer who is not in an official GTP Registry group must be prepared to run a time trial prior to the series starting, so there level of ability can be determined. Qualifier posted.
Cars, Tracks and timeline.
At the moment there are quite a few events, IFTC, Star Wars as well as 600/650 Daytona, 500/550 Fuji besides others, so I/we are hoping to run this event smoothly that involves plenty of time for races so groups can arrange times to race and hopefully individuals will have time to practice/tune/ do other events.
The plan is deliver a car (hopefully getting the tuning garages onboard to supply set-ups), naming a track, then giving a two week deadline so each racer/group can use the available tune, tune themselves, discuss and then ultimately race within their group. The groups will be dependant on number of people wishing to take part. I'm hoping to use cars which also could be used elsewhere so as not to limit your time practicing, no little Suzuki's etc.
Grouping, Stages and Phases
Depending on how many, if any wish to take part will depend on how many groups, each group will be made up of at least four racers. Each phase will consist of groups with at least four racers racing several stages, right through and including the final phase/group.
Each group will race several races in each phase, eg; four racers in a group mean four races with each racer completing a race starting from each position 1-2-3-4. Points will be awarded for where the racer finishes, eg; 1st-4pts, 2nd-3pts, 3rd-2pts and 4th-1pts, any racer missing from their pre-arranged group schedule will be awarded 1pt for each race they miss, so eg; racer A wins race 1, is missing from race 2 and 3 but comes 2nd in race 4, meaning his total points would be 9 pts, if he does not turn up for any he gets 4pts. The three racers who do turn up and compete still battle for 4-3 and 2 pts.
After the two weeks have passed information of another car and track will be supplied and the process is repeated.
This will continue for several stages, at the end of the phase, the top two racers in each group with the highest points will go through to next phase, third placed drivers will do battle for a limited number of gatecrasher spots into the next phase alongside the top one and two's.
This process will be repeated so we end up with our final four drivers doing battle for four racers to find out who is crowned PL Challenge Series Champion.
The Races themselves and "PL"
How many times have we watched F1 and seen a driver pit early to make use of some free air and maybe gain some time, well this is what we aim to do in this event. Most expert events are made up of 5 laps, so our races will involve usually maimum pp and hopefully 5 laps. The pitting takes place on either laps 2-3-4, each racer must pit and stop for 5 seconds, what laps is their decision, so your being held up or having difficulty passing...pit and take advantage of the free air to maybe gain some time and pick up a place or two, be aware that this can also go wrong, come back out in traffic and lose time, so choose wisely when to pit but you must pit and stop.
Stewarding
Each group having their races will be monitored via a steward, hoping to have volunteers from within other groups to do this, please if taking part try to help out and help the organizers by taking some of the burden on stewarding.
So there you have an idea of the event, Im still fairly new to GTP and new to arranging events so possibly a few cracks/hiccups might appear, I hope i can keep these to a minimum though, if you wish to take part, post your name and GTP group, if no group just say so.
I'm hoping the tuning garages who may see this will be up for supplying tunes and would appreciate it if they post to ok this.
At the end of the day I'm hoping to create a little bit of fun for us to enjoy the game and what it offers and the banter that usually is associated with an organized event. Any thoughts are also welcome
Thanks for reading and hopefully taking part
