Introduction
Welcome, I'm GTP_Wanna_B formerly known as Cashwars and hopefully along with my partner in organizing events GTP_JackStanley we are going to run the PL Challenge Series, it's an idea we intended to use in the SixAxis Championship but PD decided not to have a World Event in expert races, so I/we(hoping he decides to help me out) have decided to run a new event.
What does PL stand for? Pit lane, more about that later.

Condition of participation
1. As no World Event in expert mode, open to PAL users only.
2. Racer must be available to race their group events in the evenings here in the UK, so any US/AU etc PAL users need to be available at a time matching UK evenings.
3 Any racer who is not in an official GTP Registry group must be prepared to run a time trial prior to the series starting, so there level of ability can be determined. Qualifier posted.

Cars, Tracks and timeline.
At the moment there are quite a few events, IFTC, Star Wars as well as 600/650 Daytona, 500/550 Fuji besides others, so I/we are hoping to run this event smoothly that involves plenty of time for races so groups can arrange times to race and hopefully individuals will have time to practice/tune/ do other events.
The plan is deliver a car (hopefully getting the tuning garages onboard to supply set-ups), naming a track, then giving a two week deadline so each racer/group can use the available tune, tune themselves, discuss and then ultimately race within their group. The groups will be dependant on number of people wishing to take part. I'm hoping to use cars which also could be used elsewhere so as not to limit your time practicing, no little Suzuki's etc.

Grouping, Stages and Phases
Depending on how many, if any wish to take part will depend on how many groups, each group will be made up of at least four racers. Each phase will consist of groups with at least four racers racing several stages, right through and including the final phase/group.
Each group will race several races in each phase, eg; four racers in a group mean four races with each racer completing a race starting from each position 1-2-3-4. Points will be awarded for where the racer finishes, eg; 1st-4pts, 2nd-3pts, 3rd-2pts and 4th-1pts, any racer missing from their pre-arranged group schedule will be awarded 1pt for each race they miss, so eg; racer A wins race 1, is missing from race 2 and 3 but comes 2nd in race 4, meaning his total points would be 9 pts, if he does not turn up for any he gets 4pts. The three racers who do turn up and compete still battle for 4-3 and 2 pts.
After the two weeks have passed information of another car and track will be supplied and the process is repeated.
This will continue for several stages, at the end of the phase, the top two racers in each group with the highest points will go through to next phase, third placed drivers will do battle for a limited number of gatecrasher spots into the next phase alongside the top one and two's.
This process will be repeated so we end up with our final four drivers doing battle for four racers to find out who is crowned PL Challenge Series Champion.

The Races themselves and "PL"
How many times have we watched F1 and seen a driver pit early to make use of some free air and maybe gain some time, well this is what we aim to do in this event. Most expert events are made up of 5 laps, so our races will involve usually maimum pp and hopefully 5 laps. The pitting takes place on either laps 2-3-4, each racer must pit and stop for 5 seconds, what laps is their decision, so your being held up or having difficulty passing...pit and take advantage of the free air to maybe gain some time and pick up a place or two, be aware that this can also go wrong, come back out in traffic and lose time, so choose wisely when to pit but you must pit and stop.

Stewarding
Each group having their races will be monitored via a steward, hoping to have volunteers from within other groups to do this, please if taking part try to help out and help the organizers by taking some of the burden on stewarding.

So there you have an idea of the event, Im still fairly new to GTP and new to arranging events so possibly a few cracks/hiccups might appear, I hope i can keep these to a minimum though, if you wish to take part, post your name and GTP group, if no group just say so.
I'm hoping the tuning garages who may see this will be up for supplying tunes and would appreciate it if they post to ok this.

At the end of the day I'm hoping to create a little bit of fun for us to enjoy the game and what it offers and the banter that usually is associated with an organized event. Any thoughts are also welcome

Thanks for reading and hopefully taking part

Excellent work again, we're very lucky to have people such as yourselves putting in this kind of time, dedication and organisation.

Here are my details:

GTP_Synwraith, Sixaxis user, Division 2 Bronze.

I initially thought this was a replacement for the Sixaxis championship, but on second reading, clearly you plan to run both championships concurrently. I think the pitlane idea is brilliant, and if the Sixaxis championship endures to the point of coinciding with a World Event pro update, you guys should consider using it there as well, as originally intended.

Count me in 👍 and let me know if I can help, I'll see what I can do. The very least I can do is help steward races that don't interfere with the T&L events I'm helping to run and offline commitments of course. Maybe you could take a list of willing volunteers, send out a daily/weekly timetable of events and they could put their names forward for the ones they can steward/officiate?

All the best
Maz

Thanks Maz, much appreciated for your offer of help as well:tup: Was not a happy chappy with the update, as so much wanted to have this in the SixAxis Championship, maybe if it's still up and running next update and the event is still on we can like i intended do a version of this. As for timing, I'm hoping two weeks maybe plus for each stage in this event, giving people more than enough time for real life, other events and practice for this events stage

OK - put me down (maybe I'll be quicker at stopping than I am at going) :)

Damn Wanna_B! If you keep up with these ideas, I will be forced to buy a PAL disc...

Brilliant idea, is a shame there´s no WE for joining this...

I'd like to help with tunes if you'd like.... dont mind tuning for events like this... what kind of time span are we looking at? I'm going to be on a vacation for a month in Jan. 2009 so I'd like to know when this is starting.. if its longer then I can provide tunes before and after january... 👍 Let me know and I'll be glad to help out!

The Races themselves and "PL"
The pitting takes place on either laps 2-3-4, each racer must pit and stop for 5 seconds

Sounds like fun, but if I may make a suggestion....
Do pit but dont insist on the 5 second stop. There's a speed limit in pitlane as you well know. You wont be able to monitor a 5 sec stop. There will always be 1 (or more) that will "calculate" to their advantage by stopping e.g. 4.5secs instead of 5.

Good luck with this race. 👍

Sign me up JP :)

You never know, this event will take a little time to get up and running, i want enough competitors and there will be loads of time between stages.
So in the mean time, keep looking around, possibly the SixAxis Championship, maybe a one off event aimed at our friends who have NTSC J or NTSC U, i have another PAL version of the game to give away besides the one that timeattack07gt won in the 48hour prize alert time trial.

Just what i was hoping from the garages, hoping each stage will take between 2-3 weeks only, i want enough time for people to practice with the choosen car as well as doing the events currently going on, besides it being that time of year which does mean, people will have a lot of family, work, parties etc taking some of their time, also in regards to you vacation, if it's under way by, i would like to inform the garages well before hand what car would be used in what stage, giving you enough heads up way before the event.

Sounds like fun, but if I may make a suggestion....

A drive through will slow you down due to the penalty, but not a great deal. My intention is to have race stewards manning the pits, to observe each driver making their stop in the required laps as well as observing the time they stop for, will not be perfect 5 second stop but hopefully close enough. Mind you thanks for the idea, may still change the nature of the pit lane manouver

I really like the idea, Wanna_B 👍, but I'm not sure I'm gonna take part as I'm not available in the evenings UK time. If it would have been in the weekends, it wouldn't have been a problem.

As for problem with the time each driver will be stopped in the pitlane:
Maybe the steward can position himself in the middle of the pitlane and use his brakelights to let the drivers know when they can continue racing. Example:

-Driver comes into the pits and stops behind the steward so he can see his brake lights
-The steward starts to count the seconds when the driver comes to a complete stop
-After 5 seconds, the steward brakes so his brake lights come on and lets the driver know he can continue.

This was the plan regarding pit lane stopping, as for not being available weekday evenings, I'm sure some groups would maybe race at weekends, after all that's when most of us are free, and the event is more for fun so being placed in a group with weekend racing in mind would not be too hard to do. Hope you reconsider.

Well, then I think the plan regarding the pit lane stopping is very good :D
It won't be easy for the steward if 2 or more drivers enter the pits on the same lap, but a couple of seconds apart :nervous:

OK, so I'll enter the event then 👍. But now you already know it's gonna be difficult for me to be available weekday evenings :)

Hell,I am to little on the online tracks lately,

Count me in,

Although I would remind our UK friends ,we in Holland are a hour ahead of you.
Reasonable week times or weekend races would be nice.:)

Such...a great event!! NTSC FTL..

Stick my name down, I'll give it a go. Gtp_mjh. Div 2 bronze. Dfp.

I'll join...my PAL disc should show up any day now. The 6-axis tourney is suspended for now, so I may as well get in on the action. 👍

I might have a link to a PAL version as well, should know by Monday. I've been bugging my buddy for his since this event was posted...
if I get it, i'll post back...

I'm on the US east coast, GMT -5. I likely won't be in all the races, but I'll give it a go.
