Maybe so :) I don't follow the TV market :p
All I know it was a top of the line model which they were phasing out when i bought it.
I could not be any happier with it. Starting to feel a little small though ;p

Ishie, the last Pioneer Kuros released are still considered the best plasma tvs ever made.. still to this date.

i know what you mean about the size, im looking to upgrade to 50" in the new year. i have had my 42" for a few years now.

I have a 46" Panasonic PZ86 dont have any problems with burn in.

There can sometimes be a litle image rentention, but it will go away after wathing tv a few minutes.

Guys, I had the same problem and was just as PO'd until...

They gave you the option to turn off HUD!!!

If you haven't done so, update! Problem solved!

I'm in the UK and have a VT20.

To be clear we with European sets do not have a menu in setup from which you can choose tools to help prevent or remove IR, like the North American sets have.

My set too is prone to pretty severe IR after only an hour of GT5 i'll have the speedo and timing details retained on screen. I got terrible IR, almost go as far as to call it screen burn it lasted so long from BF BC2 and i get IR from COD Blops.

There is a white bar wipe and some coloured slides in the service menu which i run but i do this at my own risk as you can seriously mess up your telly if you don't know what you are doing / looking for in the service menu.

I also some times run an untuned analogue signal as the snow also helps to clean away the IR - the problem is that the TV automtically goes into to standby if no signal is detected after a given period (about 15mins) which is annoying - haven't figured if there is a way of changing this setting.

Anyhow whilst turning off the HUD is semi useful what would be of FAR greater use would be the ability to dim the hud :)

That's why I bought a Pioneer Elite 60" and Elite 50". Won't be needing to upgrade any time soon, as long as they last. The 50" is pretty much a dedicated gaming display and it's been fine.

I don't know I would go that far. I know the Kuro owners are really proud of their TV's, but the panosonics are just as nice. I think the Kuros got a boost in performance when the announcment was made, that pioneer would no longer be making them. Don't get me wrong, I know they are top of the line, but I think pannys are just as good. In all honesty, though, pannosonic and pioneer are way ahead of everyone else, I can't believe pioner stopped making those TVs.

As for plasma, lcd, led, or whatever you have, go buy a calibration disk. It will make a world of difference. I got an old one that isn't even made for the HDTVs and it made my picture much better. I keep meaning to buy a newer HD version of the disk but always just forget about it.

As others have said, you have IR and not burn-in. I have a 50" Panasonic plasma and see this fairly regularly. It typically goes away in a few minutes. FYI, I did the recommended break-in and have well over 1,000 hours logged on my display.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Factory brightness settings are typically set too high. Lower the setting using recommended picture settings found at AVS or Cnet.

2. The plasma is more likely to suffer from stronger IR in the first couple hundred hours of use.

3. Some brands are more susceptible to IR than others. From my reading on AVS Pioneer was the best, followed by Panasonic. Samsung was worst.

I use the THX Optimiser which is contained on most dvd & bluray's nowdays (usually under extras) works a charm for me.
