PAL can't upscale to 1080i. You can fake it on emulators only by using hardware rendering and upscaling to the resolution.

Yeah I started playing gt4 usa version as it had native 1080i support. Softmod ur ps2 n play a import version
Best option is to get a CECHC03 60GB fat PS3. In the UK go for the £84 on eBay sold by musicMagpie that’s refurbished. Comes with the cables (including a golden HDMI cable) and everything is extremely well refurbished and cleaned before being sent out.
Slip GT4 in, beforehand you should enable the fullscreen upscale in Game Settings and make a virtual memory card.

PS2 games can be upscaled on real hw with some apps like GS Mode Selector , even on pal .
Compatibility is not so high tho, plus PAL games on hi-res usually go faster. I managed to get Gran Turismo 3 PAL at 1080i, it worked only for one car on Trial Moutain, then my ps2 froze.
The best way to play it on original HW is softmod your pal ps2 and play the usa version
Tourist trophy have the same gfx settings, only on ntsc.
