I had two very clean rooms yesterday, and I had some pretty good racing in the ABC'S, but...I'm bad at this game compared to some of the best racers.

It's not that I can't keep up with them--I can, but I always make idiotic mistakes. I dunno if it's just nerves or something, but if I'm sliding into the grass at Road Atlanta in a B500 S2000, something's wrong.

Also, I haven't had a single race where I didn't make some completely stupid mistake. In my first one, I braked way too far at Sebring and nearly wrecked someone else.

And finally, I'm not that aggressive enough of a driver. I spent half a lap at Sebring behind a C-Class car (I was A-Class) because I wanted to pass him cleanly and I only passed him when I had a clear shot (didn't help that he was BMW X6, though...). I always give other racers a wide berth instead of even blocking in the slightest. Hell, I've intentionally let others pass me because I blocked them too much. Any type of impact from the smallest one to the largest one turns me into a "oh-god-i'm-sorry-oh-god-it-won't-happen-again-oh-god" wimp. I never pass people in the turns too, it just seems too rude to cut in deeply and nearly scrape them.

Sigh....in the ABC'S, I managed to only ever place second in my class (Except a truly disasterous race in an LF-A--that thing handles like a boat, I swear). Some smug guy also said "You're not ready for B-Class, kid". Dammit.

Try the custom lobby room with damage to sim. Still fast drivers, but also most of them race more clean than damage off rooms or the hoppers.

When people play with damage off, they are much more aggresive and pass in areas that they shouldnt.

No, it wasn't that people were aggresive. Quite contrary, they were very clean. And I was doing badly against them.

Hey, I was just wondering what I could do to get better.

It's not any less stupid than any other thread.

Hey Chagen don't worry. It just takes practice. When it comes to suckage VAXTXX knows ALLLL about it. :yuck::D

Well like I suggested, do more races in the custom lobbies. More people drive the way you do.

Or better yet join a series. The group that I run with is very good, and has the setup to where even slower or newer drivers can compete with the faster ones.

Your just lucky we didnt add the points up of the WTCC

Practise.

Keep racing the way you want to, being a gentleman. It sounds like you're probably a decent guy to have on the track. Eventually you'll develop a better feel for the flow of the race and you'll feel more comfortable racing closer to people. Until then, don't try to win as such. Just drive so that you can feel that you really had a good race.

Some people will always be faster, that's just the way racing is. Aiming to be the fastest isn't a productive way to get faster. Having fun and spending lots of time racing will see you becoming fast without you even noticing how you did it.

I'm a newbie myself. I finished all my online races dead last. Then I started racing exclusively F class. I'm doing a little better. I even finish in the middle now and then. (but it's usually b/c someone ahead of me made a mistake)

Just buy some tunes. I haven't figured out which tunes / cars to use for which tracks. That's going to take a while. Also I think the guys that win know the best racing lines for the track. When I race I'm just following the assist racing line and braking when it says to. lol.

Regardless it's more fun to finish dead last online than it is to finish 1st against the AI.
