anybody uses this racing cockpit? (you can see it at www.playseats.com)
it is obviously the only 'ready-made' cockpit i can buy here in russia but what confuses me is the steering wheel support column which goes right between my legs - looks like i'll have to use left foot for braking and this is totally unacceptable for me. or is it possible to place the pedals assembly on its platform a bit to the right so that i could use my right leg for brake and gas without hitting the support column with my right knee/leg? any comments from users of this cockpit are welcome

yeah, it comes w/o wheel or pedals, just a seat and supports for wheel and pedals. you mean it's too expensive? well, yes it is, but i can put up with the price if it allowed right-foot braking

I just set up my Evo this week and it is a good seat. You can offset the peddle a bit to the right, but your leg will probably still be against the post. I can still use my right foot for the brake, but it is not as nice as not having the post there. Playseats makes a classic model that doesn't have the center post, but the word I got on the forums is that it is unstable and the wheel moves around too much. Hence needing the center post on the newer models. Hope this helps.

i've got the evo seat as well despite my fears about right-foot braking
well, what can i say - it's great - sooooo solid! for now it doesn't make an obvious contribution to lap times but it does contribute to the overall feeling - it's much closer to driving a car than a piece of furniture :-)
the problem with right-foot braking is easy to overcome - as-made the pedals panel can be moved to the left for no obvious reason and i drilled a couple of holes in it to move it to the right - the whole structure is so solid that even placing the pedals panel asymmetrically doesn't cause any wobble and shake
the only drawback is lack of adjustment to the seat itself - i'd love to have the back rake adjustable and the cusion length as they do in bmw cars. but overall it's great - even for 400 dollars which it cost me

just found on the web a sparco racing cockpit which looks even greater than playseats evo. thankfully it is not sold in russia - otherwise i'd be left with no choice but to splash out 800 dollars on it :-)

I looked at that Sparco one also, but you can't use the G25 on it. It is only for DFP and there is no where to hook the G25 shifter to. That is one of the main reasons I went with the Playseats. The Sparco one does look like a very stable platform and I do like the lack of the bar between the legs. The $700 plus shipping would have killed the deal for me though.

I've been looking at pics of the playseats , and I plan on getting a G25 when GT5 is out. so my question is where do you fit the shifter? pics of the setup would be good.

For now I'm going to use my DFP on it if I get it , I just need to know that the G25 fits nicely on it so I know I don't need to buy another seat

the playseat has a separate shift mounter for the g25. I just ordered one on amazon for 250, but that sale only lasted 2 days and it is now back to 270-300. If you're interested u should keep checkin back on amazon they usually drop it to 250 monthly.

Why not get the shift holder designed for the Evo and the G25 shifter for $30-$40 and save the hassle of building one? It is never going to look as good as the production one.
On a different note, I put a Buttkicker Gamer on my Evo and it works great. It adds one more level of realism to the whole thing. If you are interested in getting a good deal on one, go do buttkickergear.com and put DMP in the coupon code box on checkout. That will take it from $149.99 to $49.99. Well worth it in my book.

do u have any pictures? Ive been meaning to get that too, I just don't know how to go about it. AND have heard that the fan is kind of loud. I was thinkin about the buttkicker LFE

I have the ButtKicker LFE. Awesome. No fan. Highly recommend any ButtKicker and the LFE is very powerful. You will feel every bump, rumple strip and fender bender. If you race with the DFP wheel with force feedback set at max and you also have a ButtKicker you're in for a real treat. I have posted some pics of my setup somewhere in this section, but the 5 or 6 pics are kinda lame.

would you happen to have a link? i tried looking through your posts, but couldn't find any. I was looking at the buttkicker lfe kit, 400 bucks is a lot, but if its quality i'll go for it. I'm also thinkin about a surround sound system, which i think should be a bigger priority...what do you think? Did you buy the whole LFE kit? or just the buttkicker alone, if alone how did ya set it up?

Sorry - it's in the Steering Wheels & Racing Cockpits sub-forum under "ERacer's DFP setup." I'll try to create a link later today (left my How to link for Dummies 101 at home) :D

EDIT: Link added

Your set-up looks awesome. I just got my playseat EVO today, to be honest, I was expecting a bit more. =\ It seems like it was built for kids way younger. I am 21 5'10 slim and i feel kind of cramped up in it. Next time I will definitely try making my own.
BUT---I really do want the buttkicker and a surround sound setup. What would you guys recommend first? The buttkicker or sound setup.

I'm thinking about the buttkicker LFE kit for $400

and a 5.1 Klipsch yamaha setup for $900.

I think eventually I will have both, but just wondering what to get first.

Thanks cdcdude! My cockpit is kind of cramped too, I'm average build at 5'11 and 185 lbs, but I feel it's okay because I believe most real-life cockpits are probably cramped too.

I would strongly recommend getting the sound set-up first. The sound makes a huge difference, especially with the sub-woofer. The Yamaha 5.1 system is great and more than enough. The ButtKicker can come into the picture later.

Keep us posted on how it's going. 👍

haha thanks for the input dude, I am definitely going for the 5.1 setup now.

I got a brand new playseat evolution for $75 bux at craigslist this week. All I had to do was make the 2.5 hour trek up to Tacoma to get it :D Best deal EVERRRRRR!

i have a playseat and love it. it is very sturdy and works great with the g25. the only thing though is the center post. you do have to offset the pedals to the right to use your right foot to brake. it makes the pedals bend slightly to the right but is almost unnoticeable. the buttkicker is a nice addition also. it makes the game even that more immersive. if i had it to do over though i think i might have gotten the obutto racing cockpit. the seat looks more comfortable, and the stand looks more sturdy. also there is no center post. the playseat does look more adjustable though. being in russia i don't know if you could get the obutto. anyway, either seat will be great so enjoy.

I have a playseat courtesy free shipping from amazon. :)
So far so good. it works out quite well with the setup I have.
If i'm in the mood for racing on the pc i have a desk that is low enough to still give a 'cockpit' feeling and and i just push the office chair outtheway and race; if i want to use it for the console if/when i get a new wheel all i have to do is unplug a usb and power cord and slide the whole setup out to the other room in front of the 50" tv for some f1c/gt4/p/5.
When the kid goes off to college I got a seond room to play with and might have a dedicated race rig with the fancy expensive stuff but for those on a budget and pc/console tastes, a playseat or other portable cockpit is a great idea.

I thought I got a killer deal getting mine for $199 shipped; For $75, you may as well have stolen it from the guy...

In response to a couple of the older posts, The bar between the legs thing has never posed a problem. It's not a hinderance at all. And here are a couple of pics with the G25 shifter adapter attached:

Ninja, how do your times compare, controller vs. wheel? I love the setup, and appreciate the "feel" piece, but was curious about lap times.

Nice score n1nja.
I've felt how flimsy the g25 shifter is in the store and was planing on modifying it so it has a bit more resistance.
How stable is the shifter mount?

The shifter mount is very stable. I mounted my pedals different though. I put mine over to the right. The way he has his setup, you have to left foot brake, or work your way around the bar a little with your right foot. I mounted mine offset, you can see the left side of the plate that you mount the pedals to on mine. I don't know why I have not seen anyone else do this. It works a lot better. It eventually may warp my plate that the pedals mount to, but for now it works a ton better than putting the brake pedal in the middle.

I've also got my pedals offset to the right on the Playseat, feels just perfect that way.
It was only a matter of unscrewing them, slide the pedal base a bit to the right, screw back... Voilà! 👍

One thing that did drive me nuts was the pedals will not stay put. So I went to target and got the thinnest rug traction cloth thingy I could find (yes very technial) and it works great they don't budge :) My seat is white and I wish it was black, but hey at least its not the Tony Stewart one :yuck: I on the otherhand can turn right AND left :P
