Still no dedicated servers for PS4. I spend 99.9% of my gaming online so I will pick a gaming console with dedicated servers over one without.

However if you are someone that doesn't game online very often then the PS4 is truly the best option.

Yes that is good news you do not need the eye for the PS4.

Oh another question. Will the PS4 have a party chat like xboxlive? Up to 8 people? The PS4 needs that bad.

I thinkt that is one of the best features of the new console. Sony should offer the same. Especially when they want your money for playing online now.

Yes, the PS4 does have cross game chat.

Also CAMAROBOY69, I think you're dead set on your decision of which console to choose, since you need dedicated servers. I'd recommend Xbox One.

I'm still not happy about paying for online. Also they sneaked it in under the hype of DRM.

I wonder how many will get both consoles now they're both behind a pay wall. My 360 is offline. PS3 was used online for its first few years.

Will Sony pull some crap where you upload GT7 photos through the PSN cloud, no USB. I don't want two consoles like that.

Also I game on PC mostly, no paywall. My online gaming is very sporadic which makes it no sense to pay just to download a livery or set a time in a time trial. Paying 30 quid a year for that, no thanks. 60quid a year if I own both. Add up to hundreds of pounds over the years which I''ve save on thus far

I dont think that Sony is cheaper at all. What about extra controllers and the cam? Sony peripherals are way more expensive most of the time. The original DS3 still costs around 50 € here, set the Xbox 360 controller with a price of 30 € against it and it gets obvious.
And here the DS3 costs $5 more than the 360 controller without the battery pack, 10 less than the 360 controller with it, and $5 less than the 360 controller with the slightly less awful D-pad. Nevermind any of the other accessories Microsoft sells, like the proprietary charge cables that essentially amount of USB cables with a different end connector for $15 or the flashed laptop hard drives with 200% markup.

They could have sold Kinect on its own, but then we would have the same problem as before. The core game studios wouldnt implement it, because not everyone had a kinect system. Now its different.

This will a problem for the playstation eye. It wont be in every package, so we wont see a wide support for it in core games.
I'm sure people will be crushed.

I couldnt care less on DRM. I rather wait for some games to drop in prices or get it in a sale, instead of losing a lot of worth and money on a gamestop trade in. Gamestop and all those used game shops making a fortune by reselling the game you gave them for 10 bucks for 40-50 €. The developers who make those games, especially single player games like Uncharted, wont get a cut.
Good for you. I'm glad you're so comfortable having no rights as a consumer.

The people who were at E3, who gave Sony a standing ovation as they went through each of Microsoft's bullet points to say that they would not support them, didn't seem to agree.

From a price point it's a smart move. From a developers standpoint it's not.
Developers will be much quicker to support the kinect because everyone has one.

And calling the ps eye a kinect clone is a bit unfair for the kinect. The kinect is much more advanced.

Well I am pretty sure that hardcore gamers don't want motion features shoved into games and it may mean the peripheral gets little usage but I see that as a good thing, Sony doesn't even talk about it anyway.

I said kinect clone to express my disinterest in the eye, I agree kinect is much more advanced, I just don't see motion gaming as a way of moving the industry forward.

I've never been this hype about a new game console. Finally my group of IRL friends won't be split up between Xbox and PlayStation anymore!

Sucks for Halo and Forza though... Always wanted to see them on PlayStation.

👍 seriously, the only scenario where DRM will properly work is if everyone had the same internet, and that is extremely unlikely in the present day. Furthermore, what if a company with DRM in operation gets hacked or is offline? That means no-one can play leading to a sales disaster

I knew Sony would start forcing online. Playstation plus was the first step toward that decision. Seen this coming years ago.

I have always been a multi-platform gamer. I own the PS3 and 360. I am online 99% of the time on the 360. I only use the PS3 mainly for blu ray and a couple exclusives. Now that the PS4 no longer has free online, the decision is even easier for me to go with the Xbox One. If the PS4 had been free online it would have been a different decision. Then for the X1 to have dedicated servers is just the icing on the cake for me.

One thing the PS4 has going for it is no restriction to play used games. Well besides you must have Playstation plus to play the games online and you will have to pay for the online pass. So really used games just are almost not even going to be worth it on the PS4 if you want to play the used games online.

The issue for me is the opposite. I do not need another controller. I do need my steering wheel to work which costs a lot more than a controller and it appears that it will not work with the XBOne but should work with the PS4 which makes the PS4 less than 1/2 price of the XBOne

Also not an issue for me, I don't want Kinect and I do not want it incorporated in my games. I surely do not want to pay an extra $100 for it.

Why should the developer get a cut on a sale of a used product. They have already got their money from the original sale. They are really not entitled to any more. The person who purchased the game is entitled to whatever they can get out of it if they decide to sell it not the person they purchased it from originally.

And because Sony said no to DRM, doesnt mean that publishers wont use online passes or other systems.
No it doesn't mean that but it also does not mean they will use them. What it does mean is that Sony is not forcing the issue and that is the right choice here.

Upgradable hard drives confirmed.

Except for all of those games from publishers (which means everyone who isn't Ubisoft, EA and Sony, and EA already dropped them for future games) that didn't use online passes.

I see it like this, Sony had to charge for online to keep the publishers happy. To combat any DRM tactic they would try to apply.
I don't think the publishers will see the slightest bit of that money.
One problem for the US is how can PSN compete with Xbox Live, Sony had their big chance to show off how much more inviting and well designed PSN will be but they do nothing. Many find it a bleak place.
Cross game chat is already something.
Microsoft didn't announce one either... Huh. I wonder what's up with that. Announce at Gamescom? TGS seems far too late.
2014 release
I assumed that was just because Xbox tanked in Japan. Odd for Sony not to announce it though, even if it was a US based conference given in English.
They have their own event the TGS, I guess they simply wanted to save some stuff for it.
Wonder if Sony will be putting headset/mics in the box like MS did with the X360.
Yes every PS4 will have a Headset included.
The USB is even more worrying because I'd think being there would cause some clearance issues, even with some types of flash drives.
If that's really the case then get a extender cable, they don't cost the world.

What's up with all the hundreds of batteries you have to buy for Xbox controllers. They're not for free my friend.

And it's soooo great that people who don't want to use or have kinect are "forced" to pay more.

PS eye and kinect do only really make sense in certain types of games. Such AAA titles will have the necessary support for sure.
What's your point? Want to play "core games" with kinect? That's nearly a contradiction in itself.
By the time you add the price of the PS4 + the PS EYE + playstation plus you are about the same price as the X1 actually higher than the X1. Clever marketing by Sony for those not paying attention to the peripherals.
You shouldn't ignore all the thousands of people who don't want PS Eye and/or PS Move.
Please answer this very important question.
I read the first post and don't see anything about Sony having dedicated servers. Will the PS4 have dedicated servers like X1?? That's a massive selling point for me. In fact that is THE top selling point right now for me since the price between the consoles is almost identical after the peripherals.
We don't know.
Some do. Imagine that combined with a kinect.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1944625487/omni-move-naturally-in-your-favorite-game

It just depends on how the motion features are implemented. Just like in 3D games/movies, a good implementation is one that feels natural.
Aaarrrghh!!! Go away with that!!! How AWFUL!!!

Seriously, you just showed me a gaming nightmare. 👎
If you like it - fine, but that thing will never thing a way into my house NEVER!!!
I actually expected this. 👍

What's up with all the hundreds of batteries you have to buy for Xbox controllers. They're not for free my friend.
They have a rechargeable battery pack that you plug into the console to charge. No separate batteries required.

The battery pack is a seperate battery, or is it included this time?

I like that the DS4 still has a built in battery. Haven't had problems with the battery in my ps3 controllers yet.

a few quick questions about the streaming service for older games. Is this included with PS Plus or is a separate service? Do you have to pay for each game you play even if you currently own that game? Or can you play any older PS game?

TGS is in September*. There's no way Sony would leave the Japanese release date/price info up in the air until then.

For what it's worth, there was an article on famitsu stating that Sony will hold a press conference to announce their plans for Japan. Like the conference, the article is in Japanese.

*For the record, I'm going to TGS this year.

Unfortunately, no one is in a position to answer those questions. Sony haven't discussed this in detail.

Was that ever included? And if was it then for the same price? From what I know it wasn't, but correct me if I'm wrong.

It's included with the controller if you pay $15 more. Otherwise, it costs $20 more to buy it separately. No idea what the European prices are.

But then the Xbox controller is more expensive...

Therefore I'd say the pro xbox controller price argument is invalid.
