Please Don't Tell Me (Digital/Analog Tachometer)

since it seems like the topics almost completely shifted from where it started, how about they
add some side mirrors to the cars. The one problem I have with 1st person view is that I can't
see people who are to my sides. Maybe the seemingly elongated rear view mirror in GT4 all but
eliminates this problem, but even with a real life blind spot, you can't see crap except for behind
and in front of you in GT3. I've almost lost at least one really difficult and close race to this and
it's really frustrating.

How can you almost lose a race because you cant see someone behind you?

If you're driving the better line, you're driving hte better line, and you can't use "I didn't see him!" as an excuse -__-

Did I see mention of an in game bonnet cam, where you can actually see the bonnet? If so, great!

Yes it's true. There is a bonnet cam view in GT4 :)
Egghead had a short video clip which showed all the camera views available in GT4. However I can't find it within his video thread.

Cheers, Jamie

when i was first makin hybrids in gt3 i made the skyline gtr m spec, the one in concept an prologue, the gold one. saw the car in the editor and thought i would make it, this is goin back 2-3 years now, but i always have my view on 3rd person, when i switched to inside i got a faint inside view with faint bonnet and front windscreen struts, when rear view button was pressed it would show lookin from inside car looking out of back window! anyone else see this when doin hybrids? only with the m spec though!

only thing that is p'in me off at the mo is the lack of dials in 3rd person, means i gotta go back to listening for a certain engine tone to know when to change, easily done though, just gutted!

another thing, with prologue, did anyone get seasick watchin from the far back 3rd person view? cant understand why they've done it?

Yes, a proper in-car view with all instruments would be very nice to have in GT series games.
But that´s something the PS2 probably cannot handle while maintaining the high standard of the rest of the graphics.
What I don´t understand though, is why they just don´t inlcude a perspective from just behind the windscreen at eye level (either inside or outside the car) and a little bit zoomed in on the street (to avoid having to draw instruments, which are not present anyway).
It may not be perfect, but some of us may still like it.

Seriously... you guys need to grow up.. All anyone does anymore is whinge about the game... "The AI is dumb, it's not a sim" etc etc, saying things which have been left out make it un sim like...
Then, you complain because OUTSIDE the car has the incorrect tachometer or whatever... since when do people drive on the OUTSIDE of their cars? -_- Don't ever complain about it not being sim again if any of you are thinking about it... You drive a RC car from behind, not a real car...

/me puts on flames proof suit

yes you better put your suit because I'm playing 3rd person view as I always did and will always do. The day I'll be forced into 1st person is the day I'll stop playing GT. It's nice to see your car and also it's far easier to take the correct line with your car and BTW the inside view in GT as always been crappy. this digital tachometer thing is definately another let down about this Game. And BTW, I hate the " I drive with this view so people just have to use it or shut up". And I don't care if it's the sim way but it's the FUN way. People like you should go play GTR and take a week to master a single track section if this is the way you have fun but this ain't fun at all for me and many others.

respect the way other people proceed, just more options and it does'nt hurt anybody.

I also use 3rd person view and will always use until they have a in dash cam. I dont mind if it is a digital tacho at least its better then the one in GT3 which is uber crap. But im use to not using a tacho, since the car i drive the tach doesnt work unless you hit it.

Bonnet cam is a nice addition but the most people (including me) are still waiting on dashboard cam

Amen, I want that view so bad, we have a bit of a wait though :)

~Edit
In future GT's It'd be cool if the older cars we're able to display their Outside tach functionally.

You obviously don't get the point I was making -_- I wasn't saying outside was crap, but, people complaining about things which make the game un-sim, then complaining about others things which are no where near sim, but they want them -_-

Where in this thread did anyone say this makes the game un-sim? NOWHERE!! This was a perfectly good thread with a completely rational discussion until YOU came in. YES YOU, you are the only one with any problems regarding this thread, so SHUT UP AND GO AWAY YOU WANKER!!!!!!!

A. bonnet view is NOT bonnet, its on the roof. Unless its a GT-One car or a few other exceptions.

B. tachometer outside of the car is not very important, especially in rally courses where a quick look off the track is enough to spin out.

C. people have preferences, so everyone drives how they like. some people drive their car with one hand, others drive with both hands. some people drive close to the steering while, other drive straight arm.

D. just play how you play and quit trying to make people play your way. whoever it was that said take the 3rd person view out. dipshi!t.

Thats the sad thing. everyone trying to mold everyone into what they want. just live your life how you live it.

AHHH, I didn't want this in my thread nooooo ! :nervous:

Just because it dosent seem 100% clear yet, there are 3 views in the game.

Inside the car,
Behind and above the car,
and on the roof of the car, in which you can see most of the front of the car.

Sorry Adrenaline. I'm just sick of people complaining every time someone says they don't like something in GT4. People can have personal tastes and opinions of there own(after all, they have a right), not governed by what people like Bomer think and want us to do. Everytime someone has a minor criticism about GT4, someone else chimes in and says something like; "Well, if you don't like GT4 then don't play it you stupid Forza fanboy", or something along those lines. Can't we all just agree to disagree, 'cause somwhere along the line, someone is going to have a different opinion about something than you have.

End rant.

P.S. In my opinion the lack of analog dials in 3rd person view does take something away from the experience. This is not to say I don't like the game, in fact, I'm one of the biggest Gran Turismo fans around. Just check my Sig.

Can't believe that people still actually play in the external view. Kills about 80% of the simulation's immediacy and feel.

A fanboy and yet so reasonable?
What are you? An intellectual in disguise?
You cannot go around making post like that and still claim the title 'fanboy' for yourself.
You need to earn it by showing ignorant behaviour and writing in bad grammar! (I have an excuse for my spelling mistakes)

Anyway, I too cannot understand how to drive in GT games from 3rd person view, but it doesn´t hurt me neither if there is this additional camera and people use it.

I was pointing something out... how everyone who has the game just cries about whats wrong with it, only a select few people who have it are writing good stuff. Its because the way peoples minds work these days, it's easier to complain than anything else. Not saying outside view is wrong... but why would you even see a tachometer outside of a car? :/ and personally, I don't think it makes much different if its digital, or like a real one, it shows basically the same stuff.

That sounds logical. Why would you see a tachometer outside of car? Good point! 👍 The digital is probably there just to give you an idea as to where you are revving when outside of the car.

First thing out of the box and it's already disappointing. I can't believe they won't give you a decent tach in the 3rd person view. Why did they even put it in there if they were going to give you that godforsaken awful bar thingy that you can't use.

This is pathetic. I don't even know what to do now. I hate the bumper cam (it's not like real driving so get off it) almost as much as I hate that bar thingy for a tach.

It would be ideal if the cars in Gran Turismo 4 had gauges that looked almost exactly like they would on the cars they're supposed to be.

I got GT4 yesterday, and realized that I kind of like it (digital tach) (as long as you use Automatic tranny) which kinda sucks with the DFP, but is okay with a DS2.

The only thing I'm dissapointed is with the graphics. The environments are blown away by PGR2.

The car models are stellar, and driving cars is extremely fun.

I know this is not a review but I give it a well-deserved 9.6 out of 10.

After a few moments of playing I've realized that I HAVE to play in the 3rd person view - either that or face learning how to drive all over again. I'll just have to learn to use that stupid stick tach thing.

I shift by ear anyway, rather than the tach. Plus I drive from buggy bumper view. It is handy to have the analog tach for honing the gear ratios, though.

Most of us shift by Ear, don't we? Sheeesh I had to silence the volume once and I couldn't drive 'gracefully' as I should have (note: the term graceful is relative... I'm not really good)... I just went looking for my earphone and plugged it into the TV (It's a tiny tv) so I can shift at the right moments... Its also possible to see the blinking red light even without looking at it...

:)

I shift by ear when I'm driving for real, but that's hard to do in the game when you're in and out of so many different kinds of cars. I'd usually find the RPM where the engine redlined and shift just ever so slightly before it - which I need my eyes for. It's ok though, I'm getting used to the stick thing. At least now it won't screw me up when I go to 2 player mode.
