Please help getting 1080i out of my tv that supports it

Hey thanks for reading, I finally found my way here and just need quick advice..

I have this exact tv

It is a 27 in Tau hooked up through component cables. This tv supposedly supports an HD signal. It also says on that link from panasonic that this tv supports 1080i.
But when I switch to that mode in the Options screen of GT4 the screen goes buzurk and I don't get a signal. The ps2 config is set up in components and there are no options on the tv itself for any interlacing or hd support.

i believe someone mentioned that the menu screens are 480i instead of 1080i
after you set the game to 1080i, try turn ur tv to 480i first.... and in races switch to 1080i...

it's kinda annoying for tvs that doesn't switch automatically... :P

You're going to have to plug in RCA (yellow,red,white) cables and UNPLUG the Component (RGB) cables while you are in the menus and then switch back when racing.

The menus are in 480i, which the cheaper HDTVs have no clue how to handle when it comes in on the Component lines.
 
I happened to have made it all the way to the racing part with the 1080i set on. The racing picture does not go through.. I just see colored lines going diagonal. I just got off the phone with panasonic and they don't know ****. She told me to buy a hdtv system selector.

Oh man.. there are NO options at all on my tv.

The problem isn't 480i, I get that fine. I can't get 480p or 1080i to work!
 
Yeah man. I said I changed the option on the ps2 already. It's on components, it's always been on component. Damn nobody has an answer. All I wanna do is see this game in HD if even for a minute

You've asked so nicely, I don't know why everyone isn't stepping up to help you out.

How many sets of component inputs do you have? Have you tried all of them? Have you tried setting GT4 to 1080i, selecting "OK" blindly, enter a race, turn off your tv and then turn it back on? It could be a problem with set syncing from one signal to another. Maybe if it starts up in 1080i, it will be ok. Still sucks for you, but at least you'll know the problem.

I actually did try what you suggested. I turned to 1080i and shut the tv off then turned it back on. Same wavy lines, like it's not recognizing the signal. Did the same with 480p.

I wish I had a dvd player or a digital cable to see if my tv can recognize the HD signal, but I don't. All I have hooked up to my TV is my ps2 through component cables. The game looks fine in regular mode.. But I hate having something that doesn't work, makes me kind of sick and not feel like playing the game. Very few will know what I'm talking about. I bought the TV, surround sound, cables and all for games and when it's not perfect it's whack.

If that is the exact tv that you have, then I think you've got a good complaint whether it's in warranty or not. Maybe call Panasonic, say that you have good reason to doubt that the TV supports HDTV and ask if you can have it checked out by a service center for free. If that doesn't work, see if you can find a mom & pop shop that would be willing to plug it into cable box/dvd player to see if it truly works. A sleazier approach would be to buy a dvd player from CC, try it out and return it. Somthing just ain't right.

You say its on components but you didnt answer the question. There are two different settings for components. One is RGB, and the other is Y/Pb/Pr. Try BOTH.
 
Dude, you need COMPONENT (red/green/blue) cables hooked up to your television for 1080i or 480P to work.. You're getting jumbled images in 480p/1080i because you're using a low bandwidth RGB (yellow) which cannot output anything higher than 480i.

I have that same TV and it works in 1080i

Are you absolutely postiively sure you are using component cables? It would have 3 cables for video and 2 cables for audio for a total of 5 cables...
If you are, then double check the PS2 setup (it the configuation of the PS2 w/ nothing no game in) and makr sure it is NOT RGB..

I know people have already suggested this to you..but those are the only things you can control. If that is the setup..either you have a bad PS2 or a bad TV....
 
Can it be something with the new slim PS2? I never had a game with an option like this when I had my older ps2, but Socom2 worked.. and isn't socom2 480p.

Everything that I could control I already did and to no avail. I'm either missing something or something is faulty.

in your tv's description 480i isn't mentioned, don't know if it matters or not but I wouldn't know the first thing about component signals as I'm european
 
GT4 at 1080i looks great... even though it's not a true 1080i.. PD used some software trickery to make it work somewhat well enough.. it's not that noticeable over 480P.

Anyways, if you say you're using component video cables, i'd say there's something wrong with your television if it's not detecting the 480p/1080i.. I have a Panasonic HDTV myself and it works perfectly fine and a slim PS2.

tru - if you don't manually switch it to 480p, YOU ARE NOT PLAYING IN 480P in any playstation game. you were just playing regular which is why it worked.

480i is standard tv signal. Every tv supports it.
