Please help save Castle Combe Circuit!

10672.

I hate to see any race track disappear, let alone one with so much history. Best of luck saving the circuit.

Signed.

People move near airports, but they don't complain and get it closed down - They deal with it.

So why must people complain about a few noisy cars on a track? Surely they moved in long after the track was established. What did they think they were getting into? The only ones with the right to complain are those that lived there before the track existed.

Yes.:)👍👍👍👍

I'm going to add something, as an afterthought.

The exact same thing is happening where I live. There's a 4/10 mile oval within walking distance of my house that's been open for many years - Since the 1960's, possibly prior - that's being surrounded by developments. I've heard of complaints coming in, but these people really mustn't understand the track was here first. It's not active year-round, anyway - Autocross events and a few fairly quiet things during the winter, and racing on the weekends over the summer. I can hear races out the window, but it happens to be something that sounds good to me.
I mean, seriously - You don't like a bit of noise on weekends, so you're going to ruin the fun and entertainment of thousands of people? The track is the only venue in the area - Either a four hour drive north, or a $120 round trip ferry ride plus another hour of driving.

Wrong :ouch:

Here in Belgium people started to complain about the amount of night flights coming over their house.
But they already knew about the flights coming over, it's the reason why they could buy the parcels of ground cheaply.

i've just had an idea. get the guys on top gear to highlight this then we can make sure the public know about it

Very good idea, why not try it. If I have the time I may e-mail them myself.

I will no doubt get my friends to sign it. I have just signed myself.

Signed. No #10769.

Well surely this is big news and it won't go unnoticed. Top Gear will make it public in their news column either by next week or the week after. Sad to see the track go, i mean Fifth Gear did use this track for some test as well (as well as the head-to-head battles) But why are these people arguing? Their the idiotic 🤬 who wanted to live there, why not just move somewhere else where its peace and quite? Like London perhaps? :grumpy: They don't have the right to complain since the track has been there for more than 50 years and can be a historic track just like Sliverstone.

Has absolutely nothing to do with me, but signed, I hate seeing history go down the drain, especially motorsport history. #10777

Top Gear attention FTW! We just need as many signatures as possible, maybe even enough to get the noise restriction lifted. If it got on Top Gear, that would be fantastic.

For those wanting to know, Castle Combe was opened just months after Silverstone, and has been visited and driven by all the greatest drivers, including Mansell, McRae (R.I.P) and Mr.Senna.

Again i'll say it's great to see this kind of support for one of the smallest tracks in the U.K (at just 1.8 miles long) from people around the world. Thanks.

err.........sorry but what does FTW mean?

Fingers crossed we get on Top Gear, good to see so many signatures, we can't let this great circuit die!

Now i've signed the petition, i have a feeling i might of already done so some time ago :dunce:

Signed. Never used the circuit but if one goes the rest will follow suit. If people really want to live their lives without the unbearable horror of having to hear or witness other people getting on with their own lives, they should go and live on the f:censored:g moon. If you want peace without the inconvenience of being reminded that you aren't the only human on the planet, don't live on an overcrowded island!

Their demands for silence are at the expense of the quality of life of people using and running the circuit and as such as far as I am concerned they have no more right to perfect silence than the rest of us have to make a bit of noise.

Did I read how the people who actually live next to the track aren't complaining but its the people who live a bit furhter away from it?

thats daft..

The noise police have already made Castle Combe a difficult circuit to compete at. The only time we ventured down to run at the circuit we spent almost all our time and effort taking the exhaust apart to re-pack it with further sound deadening material just to enable us to race. You don't spend all that money on race entries and all that time travelling from one end of the country to another, for someone whose just moved into the area stopping you from competing because you make too much noise on a Sunday afternoon. We've stopped going to the Castle Combe round of our championship for that very reason. Unfortunately Donnington Park is going that way too, as will most other circuits i suspect.

Most British circuits have been around since the end of WW2. Locals know that during the summer months they may be able to here the distant drone of high reving car engines every other weekend. It's townies who've recently relocated to the countryside who are the ones who kick up all the fuss. If they don't like the noise then the probably should'nt move there in the first place. Muppets.

Hear Hear.

Sorry, unintentional pun

Perhaps a protest is in order... all those road legal cars that are too loud for the circuit could organise a cruise through the surrounding neighbourhoods instead..... at 2am one Sunday morning. Keep to the speed limit so the noise lingers longer. Also 30mph should be manageable in 1st gear for many cars, which should help. If they can't do 30 in first, do 20! Unfortunately I'm sure I've read somewhere that a gathering of more than 5 cars or something is considered an illegal march or something, so it may be better to have the cars spaced at intervals of approximately 15 minutes.

It doesn't matter how much circuits and drivers bend to these demands. If they bend at all, those that are complaining about the circuit will continue to do so until it is replaced with some woods where they can let their dogs run free to chase cyclists and people on horses. Both of whom they will complain about too.

What will happen is that some of the land the circuit is built on, probably the paddock area with the best access, will either be developed into a low-rent industrial park which will create more constant noise, or developed into a modern housing estate - both of which will increase traffic to the area. At this point, those who are now complaining about the noise of the circuit will decide the area has gone down hill and will relocate elsewhere.

Signed. I demand we march round to the resident's houses and scrutinise their choice of VW Passats.

Castle Combe is a piece of British racing heritage, to see it destroyed would be folly.
