Who am I to talk though, I did say the US region is the dirtiest
 
I have a strong dislike for region lock but I get that they do it so some people aren't lagging all over the place. That being said though, the European players as a whole are much more competitive than North and South American players and I would love to able to race them in Sport Mode with my real account.

Make it so you have to pass a connection test to race against people in other regions, just to weed out the people with the garbage wireless connections.

I'd like to race europeans too, if just to avoid the south americans who recently seem to be on a mission to ruin every sport race i enter.

...well, once again I'll say, playing from Serbia on bad connection and have 140+ ms lag, what worse can it be, yet I didn't notice any problems what so ever, however I'd like to have an option to choose what server I'd like to play on...

Saying 'oh Brazilians crash me off' or 'the French are the worst to race again' etc is xenophobia, whether or not you wish to accept it.

Exactly. Latency value is majorly influenced by the distance you are from the servers.

I'm on the northest of Brazil and have a decent 110ms ping to the american server. Still only 3 bars (i think you'd have to be below 100ms to be on 4 bars).

PD blocks you from playing on another region because of the repercussions of someone outside the region he's playing may cause with high latency.

There's people that are far away from the servers but have the right to play on the region (African for example on the EMEA), so no problem here.

Just because you are old, doesn't mean it is too late to maybe listen to what people suggest rather than instantly rattling off the world 'triggered' because you have no ability to communicate and discuss.

If you think there is nothing to discuss, then why reply multiple times? I personally do think there is stuff to discuss regarding the claims of dirty driving from particular nations.

@Sven Jurgens why should one throw 1 year of gameplay just to switch accounts, I mean, how hard is it to implement, similar to the filter in MP to be a part of lower latency server? Also there need to be an option to save current settings not whenever I go to MP I need to switch that to all regions, why isn't there an option for EU only, Japan only, don't understand policy behind all of this, and then when I try to create account with same name on EU it says that it is already taken, and only account is my US one... so based on this, server is unified, and only difference is latency...

Tradition? The problem goes back a long way. When I started playing World of Warcraft my friends in Europe needed a US account to continue playing with us. We all played Everquest before which didn't have a region lock. Lag is not a problem for MMORPGs at all. There was of course plenty, back in '99 on dial up my lag to the Bristlebane server would go up to 1500 ms. It still worked.

I already checked lag statistics and Europe is less laggy to me than South America, so that's not a good reason. Plus indeed, needing a new account keeps me locked to the NA server. PSN is global anyway, Journey had no trouble connecting me to anyone on the wold, that was the whole point of the game. I could play LBP with my UK friends, Resistance 2 with my Dutch friends. This gen we pay for online gaming and it's more restricted :(

I was just using the same word to tell you I see no point in discussing anything with you...as, until now, I've merely stated my opinion, which doesn't constitute a real dialogue.

If the best you can come up is "why are you responding" then you should quit now.

While true that playing close to people in your region is ideal, I find it surprising the number of people in this thread who believe that GTS region lock is doing just that. It's not. In all three regions you have people from all over the world playing with accounts that do not correspond to their geographic location. An Iranian with a USA account, an Indian with a UK account, a Bolivian with a Canadian account, etc... Not to mention immigrants. A Korean living in the USA but playing with a Korean account...

True region lock would take into account IP addresses and add latency into the matchmaking. GTS does not do that. It's a generic region lock based on account country, not geographical location.

So in effect we are already suffering sub-optimal connections from some people. This is why they should at least unlock the Dailies. It would help matchmaking and wouldn't be any worse than what we already have.

I can't play euros on my main account, that is a good enough excuse to call it region lock to me. You are just splitting hairs here.

I am not splitting hairs. You can live wherever in the world you want and play from whatever account you want. There are thousands of people who do this. I live in Argentina and play with a US account. And over the years there have been hundreds of posts in GT Planet from people using accounts half way around the world from where they live.

When it comes to region lock by account, you are correct, it exists. When you talk about latency caused by geographic location, there is no lock because you can have a Saudi Arabian racing in the Americas region with a USA account.

So my point is that the latency problem already exists because instead of the IP address being taken into account during matchmaking, the PSN account is the deciding factor. If all EMEA region players used EMEA accounts, all Asia players use Asia accounts, and all Americas players use Americas accounts, then we have a true region lock. But we know that is not the case. Just because a driver has a US flag next to his name in the lobby doesn't mean he is racing from the USA. He could be a Saudi taking advantage of cheaper games in the USA or someone from a country that doesn't have PSN accounts, like the Phillippines.
