Please Watch Out For SEMI's

Today going to school I was waiting at the light getting ready to turn. A semi pulls up right to the left of me on the light. When it turns green it only shows turn only. Im in the only turn lane. As soon as I turn he starts to turn. I notice this immediately and think quickly. I jumped out my car window and as soon as I jump out my driver side begins to get crushed by the semi

All Im saying is: You may be a good driver but that dosent mean others are. Please try to be cautions to people in your surroundings. I seriously could of been hurt when I saw the damage of it on the tow truck

These two drivers in the semi ruined a car I worked so hard in the summer. FULL TIME 40+ Hours. a week.

That sucks man, smart and fast thinking on your behalf. Insurance should cover the rest.
 
Yea we did a claim already. My dad and me want to know wheres its towed at though because if the frames arent that BAD (like not bent horribly) were just gonna pay maaco to do it. We both dont want the car to go out like that.
 
It's good to see that you are ok.
But if you had time to jump out the window then couldn't you just have steered away and not have gotten run over?

Never really thought about it like that though would of been smarter

At that time I was afriad my car would slide into another car over the curb because the curb is big.
Its really hard to explain like

You see how the side walk is. Well thats my level and if I was to make a turn more likely my car would probably slide into the CVS parking lot as the CVS parking lot is the street on the picture and the steps is the slope (grassy hill).

If that A-piller is as bent as it looks, they'd have a lot of expensive repairs to make. Considering the age of the car, insurance will write it off and throw you a check.

Most likely. It's not totaled, nor is it a brand new car. They'll just record it and send you the money. 👍
 
Must have been a tight turn so he had to turn wide, hence pulling up on your left. However, he must have thought that you had made the corner already, and somehow wasn't looking in his mirror to have had the trailer hit you like that. Did you get his statement to the police?
 
If it's claimed totaled, use the money to buy it back, pop out the roof and a-pillar, throw in some glass, voila: autocross car.

This is a decent idea. Not sure if a 240 would be a great AutoX car, but I like how you think.

That's a complete shame. I've heard stories of bad Semi drivers, but this is pretty bad.. Glad you're alright, if the car is written off, I'd part it out and put all the good parts from this car on a different 240. I know it won't feel the same, but that's better than losing the car completely.

Always have a vehicle towed to your house never to a lot. If it's towed to your house you get to see the insurance people when they look at the car. Also remember that the trucking company doesn't own your car they by law can't keep it from you even if car is totaled, I had an insurance company think that they was going to keep my 76 Camaro when a girl ran a red light and caved the firewall in about 15 in. ( this was in 1979) . They tried saying they would give me $1500 for the car, I laughed at them and told them to replace it as I had done over $2000 mods to it 327 engine headers special wheel tires custom seat work. Ended up getting $3500 and car back.

Nevertheless, it was quick thinking on your part. 👍 Luckily you were alone in your car, otherwise you might've not been able to jump out (presumably you jumped out from the passenger side window?)

Just wondering, did you ever honking at the truck driver? Or did he catch you off guard?

Off guard. I was expecting him to go straight but like said earlier. He made a wide turn. You would think I would turn fast enough and nothing would happen because its a big truck and my car is rwd and light but it was raining outside and I do first gear very carefully and slowly when it rains because it will tend to not grip the road.

Pictures of it at the place. My dad says alot of heat may fix it. Another person said it can be replaced. Most people are saying it needs to be totatled.. What do you guys think?

Totalled simply means that it would cost more to fix than to buy a new one, so I guess it depends on the estimate to get it fixed.

That thing is done, it would be unsafe to have lost the rigidity of such an important part. You can part it out as others said and maybe even keep something to remember the car in your next car
 
I don't see how cubing it would be the thing to do. I say you're dad is right on this one :p

You do have a point. For a car you use everyday to get to school and back, Not sure of it will stand the future abuse.
 
That's to bad, sorry to hear this. The main thing is, your alright. Judging by the pics, you were in his blind spot. Not at all saying that this is your fault, because it is not. Granted, he was in the other lane planning to execute a wide turn (typical in an 18 wheeler), and he obviously lost sight of you, possibly thinking you had made the turn and thought it was clear. The trucker is at fault ... unassured clear distance, and or failure to yield.

As far as your car, it can be rebuilt, but at a big cost. I have seen rolled cars where the roof was pretty much flattened out and nothing left of the main support pillars, both front and rear. The body shop simply found a donor car, cut off it's roof and pulled off some body shop magic. I personally don't believe in the mentioned practice due to the structural integrity issue, but it has been done.

A lot depends on if you can buy the car back from the insurance company and how much more $$$.$$ you want to throw back into it.
 
I'd say "you can't patch an A-pillar", but I'm sure someone's done it before; but doesn't mean you should. The structural integrity is pretty much lost in the front, and you'll have a windshield that will never fit right...and will leak for all eternity. And how much more money do you really want to dump into it?

But seriously, I don't think you get the option to part it out and cube it, unless you had no insurance coverage whatsoever.

Buy back from the insurance company, pull it apart, then have a wrecker pick up the chassis for free. I've seen many places that will take a car/chassis at no cost because they'll make up the gas and pick-up fees in the metal they can sell/recycle.
 
You think he'd really make his money back on that? Sounds more of a PITA to then house all the bits, doodads, and trim pieces and slowly hope that someone's going to buy them back bit by bit...but then again, I am merely a man of no leftover garage, attic, closet, or stash space. May-bee...sounds more trouble than its worth, unless you know a bunch of local 240SX part-seekers with open wallets.
 
It probably is more trouble than it is worth, but just saying it is an option. I know with more desirable cars, such as M3's etc, you can generally make your money back, but really unsure what the demand is for S13 parts, especially given the bleh nature of the KA motor as well.
 
Strip the badges as these sell for a nice amount on ebay, if you have any custom parts remove them as i doubt you have these on your insurance.

If you remove the rims, you have to put someone back on.

But custom radios get them.

then cube it, make sure no living soul drives it, it was your car.
