The Plymouth Superbird or the Buick GNX! Wich car do you like better and why? This is just a general intrest thread, just curious because i love both of these cars! But if i had to pick one it would be the Buick Grand National . It looks cool was inspired by the NASCAR Busch Seris and it looks killer! But the Superbird was built for NASCAR and was very succesful! Please post some responeses, can't wait to read them!
 
Kind of comparing apples and oranges don't ya think? One was a street car, and the other a race car, from 2 different era's. But...
I'd have to say the Buick. Looks mean, and sounds meaner. Also, since it helped bring back the muscle car in a period when the only other "low budget" muscle on the block was the Mustang (fox body 5.0, yuck) and Camaro/Firebird (not bad, but engines were questionable performance wise) even though it had 2 cylenders less then the competition, it deserves alot of credit.
The Superbird/Daytona deserve some respect, by that I mean, they're the reason NASCAR added changes to its rules and regulations thanks too they're domination on the track, as well as helped define a racing generation. Although, I did see a Honda Odysee (sp?) completely out run a Daytona on a autocross course, showing how unstreetable one is, making the choice of the Buick more appealing since the street is where I drive.
Although, having a Superbird for a day, then selling it for the amount of money one is worth now is a nice idea. :)
 
If this was talking about real life, the GNX would walk over the Superbird, for one reason only: the body. The Superbird in real life, while cool, suffered from tons of mechanical woes, from the car bottoming out on rough roads and blowing front tires (or ripping the entire fender off of the car!!!) to the headlights not working to the front vents getting clogged so the radiator blows. Plus, they were impossible to park. But since we are not talking about real life, I'll have to still give it to the Buick. It simply posseses so much class, so much pizzaz, so much bad-assery that the Superbird can't touch it. The Superbird may accelerate faster, but then you hit the top speed, and possibly even have to turn (there is a very good reason they only raced the Superbird/Charger Daytona at superspeedways), at which point the Buick would destroy the Superbird.

I would agee with u that the Buick can be suped up to over 1000 horsepower and it will lift the front wheels no problem and do the 1/4 mile in about 6 or 7 seconds and still be street legal. They are BADASS and the plymouth superbird, u never see nay out racin or even being driven, they are locked away in garages never to be driven again! i think that is ridiculous.

I'd have to pick the GNX even though I've never driven it. It can't be worse than the Superbird.

edit: I just re-read the second part of my post and it seems like I'm trolling, but I drove the Superbird in the WRS (and have done the driving mission involving it) and I honestly can't find a single good thing about it. The engine has a really small powerband, the brakes are terrible, the suspension is so soft and the grip level is so low.

Ok, I get it. A picture of a car doing a wheelie is proof it can do the quarter in "about 6 or 7 seconds". I'll gladly admit I'm wrong if you show me definitive proof, but at the moment I'm just saying that no street legal GNX is doing a quarter in "about 6 or 7 seconds", 1000bhp or not.
 
Well AMP88, if you look at the rest of the links there are grand nationals that were driven to events and runing like 8.02 seconds in the quarter mile so just look at all of the links and READ IT AND WEEP! These cars are amazing machines they are like the toyota supras of american drag racing. They can be tuned to perform at awsome levels and run extoridny times in the 1/4 mile with single turbo fully built 6 cylinder engines. They are turlly amazing i am actually looking to buy one! Well i am going to bed, tommarow is Christmas Day so yea!!!! I will talk to u guys tommarow! :)
 
8 seconds is NOT "about 6 or 7 seconds". I know 8 seconds is quick, and I know the cars are quick (they're not too quick standard though), but don't make a claim if you can't back it up.

although i love the superbird for many reasons, v8, outrageous stylying, being a plymouth, etc. i cant go past the the gnx simply for the fact it is an evil looking car, i think darth vader would of been at home driving one. plus it reminds me of holdens vl turbo mmmmm droolfest and being a holden man mmmm well
turboed 6 anyone?

If that's your interpretaion of "pretty ****in quick" then I'd like to know what you consider really quick...?

dude, u need to ease up that is pretty ****in quick when you compare it to the 1999 nissan skyline gt-r one of the top performance cars of all time it is actually slower than this car in every catagory except for top speed!

0-60 in 5.2 seconds
0-100 in 13.0 seconds
Quarter mile in 13.7 seconds
top speed of 155 miles per hour

Now you see mr. amp88 the buick grand antional is an extreley fast car especially sinec it has the areodynamics of a brick and was made in the mid 80's and the gtr has high technology an ti was made in between 1997 and 2002 but it is still slower than a factory grand national so you can see with a little modification it is an extremely fast car! :)
 
for 1987 the gnx was faster than the vette one of the reasons they canned it


on the superbird thing hemi birds were the first cars to hit 200+mph on the high bank tracks say slow again????


and any car that runs 7's aint a street car and it takes way more than 1k hp to run that

That's not a I-6 or an I-4. Grand Nationals, Regal Turbos and GNX's use Turbochared 3.8L V6's. That's a V8. Possibly a stock 80's Regal small-block?

Oh, my bad. I knew they were six cylinders, I forgot they were V's. Regardless, that GNX is not even running the original engine so its kinda pointless to discuss.

Actually, yes, it IS "pretty ****in quick".


Just count to 5 and you are over 100km/h.

To me, that IS "pretty ****in quick"

This is fairly pointless if you think a Skyline is "one of the top performance cars of all time". Let's just leave it at as it is.
