Point of endurance race?

Disagreed. There's nothing less enjoyable than having your car break down on the closing laps of a long race after all that strategizing to get to the front of the pack. I would be OK with tire deflations, but only if they happened for a reason (i.e. running over sharp debris on the race track). Same goes for all other fixable problems that drivers encounter during race days, like the loss of a wing.

As discussed earlier in the thread, it's generally agreed upon that random terminal failures should not be implemented. However, if your driving style is very aggressive or you run up on the curbs rough for hours on end--you should expect some sort of mechanical problem (tires, suspension, bodywork, etc.) But yes, as you said it wouldn't be fun to race that long and have it end just like that, so perhaps a limp back to the pits system for repairs, kind of similar to iracing as others have suggested? Thoughts? Discuss and debate.

Disagreed. I do think Fetel was not enjoying his race on Sunday but the mechanical failures are part of the race. And we could see how such failures happen in such short races as F1 only 300km long we have 4 blow out tires one mechanical gearbox failure and a lot of unexpected turns of events this is exiting racing. So I do think this could and should be implemented in Endurance GT races. yes it may be disappointing to loss the race in the final hour but this happen and it happen to Sebastian 11 laps before the checked flag. And this is what make great drivers that they start another race a week after that and win it. Or what Hamilton did after his blown tire he was last on the 4 lap still manage to finish 4th on the end of the race and this was amazing racing. I think this is needed for a game which entitled itself "The Real Racing Simulator"

It never titled itself that. It's always called itself a "driving simulator".
Anyway there is a big difference losing a race as short as a average F1 race and losing a race after 23 hours of progress because some behind the scenes roll of the dice that says something should break. I wouldn't mind it on some of the shorter ones but a really long race... No thank you. I would rather not get that pissed at something I do for entertainment.

I really think there is some good points to be pissed at something you do for entertainment as for example my favorite online game has periods that pisses me a lot however after 7 years I still play it :) But probably if something breaks shouldn`t be a roll of the dice but mostly something connected with the driving style. I think it should have some random factor but not that much.

There is no danger of working hard for 6 hours to build up a 2 minute lead only to lose it all with a crash and pit stop.
This is one of the problems of GT5 endurance race is it hard to make the races close. My best GT5 offline race yet was an 6-hour endurance where I only won by a few second.
