How will you drive?

Based on the poll results so far, there's a bunch of overly-confident and lying kids around here. :lol: :p

I think I only saw one post that made the connection between playing the game with "bad" tires. My original thought was that most "kids" (no offense implied) play with racing softs on cars modded to the max in bumper car mode, so they'll be in for a big shock IRL. :)

Interesting responses though!
 
Inshallah; two and a half years left until I can get my driving license, watch out other drivers:D

It's real bad there aren't any race tracks over here:(
 
Iam actually taking my license right now , just a cuple more driving lessons to go ( thay are compulsuary here in finland, along with theory lessons). but i cant say gt5 has really made me a better driver. perhaps more of an respectfull driver
 
I think everyone has had a massive crash in GT5 (any racing game) at some point or other. In race cars the crashs are all ways at high speeds and I am always left feeling like i would have just died if that had been IRL.

GT5 doesnt have damage so that point doesnt really hit home to some people. A game like GRID is better because the damage on that was really destructive and in the menu that came up after you had destroyed car said the max G-force during the crash. I think the highest i ever got without trying to crash was about 120gs. I was left in no doubt that i wouldnt have survived in real life.
 
Not sure if it helps for people who still have to get their licence, but for people who do already have it and know how to drive their car a bit GT5 will definately help to make you a better driver (assuming you use a wheel, controller won't help you).

I've experienced it myself when driving in the snow this winter (we had 2 weeks or something with lots of snow here in the Netherlands). The back of my car started to slide a few times and I could always control it again just the same way I do it in GT5. I just felt when it started to slide, like how you feel it through the FFB of the wheel in GT5, and automatically countersteered and let go off the throttle a bit. Not once did I lose it and I had to drive through it all day long for my job. I should also say that this was my first time driving in the snow (also with normal tyres, no winter/snow tyres) and I have my licence for 2 years or so but I didn't drive much the first year. I think if I wouldn't have had GT5 before those 2 weeks of snow that I would have done some serious damage to my own and other people their cars. :p
 
GT5 improved my lines through corners, but as far as driving skill goes... no, just no.

Regardless of how powerful you car is, the cornering and braking forces, you simply do not feel in the game. Another thing missing, which is very dramatic - brake fade.

To any new drivers, don't think because you're quite good at a game, you'll be good on the road, you just won't be. If you want to learn how to drive fast, do a track day. You'll learn so much more in an hour on a trackday than 10 years of gaming.

I'm only 15, but I rarely use Racing Softs, they're too expensive too.
I usually race in an underpowered and overweight car so I can have an interesting race with the AI.
 
I've been playing racing games for years, I passed my test first time with 13 lessons (about 17 hours of tuition). Do I think that playing video games with cars helped me? Perhaps, but I think an interest in cars helps too.

I've also been driving for two years, never been stopped, never hit anything apart from a low post while reverse parking which didn't leave a mark. Although one time I was in my car after popping in the shops and an Audi A3 backed into me, didn't leave a mark on my car so I let the guy go (he was very apologetic)
 
Got my licens last year, but the fact the I played Test Drive Unlimited actually helped quite a bit I think. Mostly on the skidpad. :)
 
Just got my Provisional in the post. Will be taking lessons from my mother first, and then shortly starting to do my proper lessons.

Cant wait ;)

I would say I would be a safe and considerate driver.
 
Definitely will be a safe driver. I'm unbelievably cautious irl, and will be more scared of driving at 30 than i will be with my x1. And I am a VERY aggressive driver in game.
