nascar stock cars weigh a ton more than F1 cars and are more difficult to handle even if they only race on ovals.
This is probably going to sound stupid how I say it but trust me I'm trying to make a good point
It's my opinion that nascar is easier than F1 because the cars handle worse. Comparing nascar to F1 is like comparing GT300 to nascar. GT300 cars have less power and arent as well handling, so it places less G forces on the drivers during a race. A full out lap in a nascar has a lot less G forces acting on the driver than in F1. F1 cars can easily hit 5 Gs in a race, nascar rarely hits 3. If you need any evidence of how hard it is, look on youtube for Richard Hammond's lap in the Renault F1 car. That's why F1 is a lot more challenging,
in my opinion.
not to mention that F1 cars allow the drivers to make some adjustments in the cockpit while they are driving. in order to make adjustments in stock cars, you have to pit, which can cause you to go down 2+ laps.
The only things F1 drivers can change in the cockpit is minor stuff like brake balance and fuel mapping. Major stuff like aero changes has to be done in the pits, which usually takes 20-30 seconds, and that is a year in an F1 race.
if look at some of the open wheel drivers that have made the move to nascar and you'll find that the only one that has had any semi decent success, which is juan pablo montoya.
As compared to the zero nascar drivers that have changed from nascar to F1. Although, in fairness, that is probably more to do with the FIA Super License regulations than actual skill.
both forms of racing present their own challenges but to say that F1 cars and others are harder to drive is foolish imo
F1 is
harder but Nascar is
not easy
guarantee that Nascar is far more mentally straining then F1 and the likes. You may only have to turn left, but nobody in F1 turns left at 300+kmh with 20 cars within 100 yards all around you.
Read my point about physical stress in F1, that puts a lot more stress on a person than having someone right on your tail, which happens in F1 anyways.
And I am fairly confident that the stress level in WRC is higher than in Nascar as well. Rally cars might not run close together but they are running extremely competitive times, so there is an immense sense of pressure to push the car every minute of every rally. Add to that the fact that a lot of rallies are on ice and gravel on narrow roads where one **** up not only means losing the race, but also your life, and the stress is incredible.
