For quite a while I used the roof cam because I felt like it came the closest to representing what it's like to sit behind the wheel and drive. After all, I don't have tachometers on my windshield like the default view gives, and in my experience you're looking down the hood when you drive. But I recently went back to the default view and removed the race info display (speedometer only so I could see my lap times), and it feels really organic. It's also quite fun to have to shift completely by ear and keep track of what gear I'm in. And having to judge braking distances and corner entry based on how fast it "feels" like I'm going is also a different kind of experience. I'm curious to how many people are now racing with the display off since they've added it in the game.

One thing that I dislike about having any part of the display turned off however, is that you can't see your tire wear. I guess that's realistic, but it's added a new challenge to the longer races for sure.

The only problem I have with not having it on is not knowing what gear I'm in, so naturally, I keep it on.

Definitely the most important feature to me from the 1.05 update.

Immersion factor went up tenfold. Im glad PD is still listening to their customer's request.

Nothing like doing a hotlap at Nurb+Time with cockpit view only.

Sometimes I forgot what gear Im in too , but then I look to the right at the gearstick :sly:

I turn everything off in regular races only. In endurance, I leave it on because the lack of a radio man to tell me if I'm low on fuel or running out of tire thread.

You need the race display on.
In real life, you're team would tell you you're split times etc.
In GT5 we don't have a team.

I just wish they would add an option to remove the list of racers on the right side of the screen. Removing that would be awesome.

If I'm Just driving around. I like to keep it completely off, but if I'm in a race that I intend to win, I keep the race info on only so I can monitor what lap I'm on of how my time is, but I officially keep the speedometer off now.

If all the gauges work as they should I'd keep it off, as it is I am lacking quite a bit of info, so I left it on...

I tried racing with everything off earlier today. It is really helpful if you want to memorize the track, not just memorize what gear you need to be in.

This. I need and want immersion and you get the most without any HUD and the cockpit view.

My lap times are much slower the way I prefer to drive, but I would imagine that my lap times in real life would be as well because all I have available to me is what I would have in a real car. There is no flashing "slow down/change gear" indication, nor any suggested line etc.

I love it. And surround sound makes it sexy. 👍

I get my enjoyment by turning everything off and using the narrow cockpit view which means i tend to only race in premium cars, preferably ones that have a LCD display with gears and rev counter.

The only problem for me is the speedometer is in KMs and not miles but im starting to learn speeds in KMs, so GT5 is teaching me something.

I second this. If I am not using auto, I need to see this. I am still trying to get use to my G27 so if I am using the H shifter I tend to miss shift here and there.

I'd like to turn off everything but the speedo but Polyphony just doesn't "get it".

I like having everything off for the premiums in cockpit view but you're screwed when it comes to the standards. It's another 15 clicks through the menu just to turn it back on.

Speedo off only. Need to see splits. Although it is annoying how long it takes to change the speedo back on if I'm in a standard car.

I agree. Why can't they allow us to map a toggle button :(

You know you can change it from the Pause menu, right?

Anyway, I usually put it to "Speedometer Off" (which really turns off the whole bottom portion of the display) on premiums that have well-lit gauges, and full-on for those that don't and standards. Sometimes I turn it completely off when I'm just messing around.

I leave it on. I use manual transmission, and need something a bit more precise than the sound of the engine to pick my shift points. I don't like the roof cam, it makes me feel like I'll tip over when I go through a corner since it's so high in the air. I just use the front bumper cam, and if I'm really familiar with a track, maybe I'll use the cockpit cam. The tachometer in some cars can be used to indicate your shift points, but in some cars it just isn't visible, so I usually have the HUD turned on. Though I really hate the blinky "hit the brakes!" light. Using trackside markers / scenery to pick your braking points is an integral part of most racing games. Except this one.

They really did get the options the wrong way around. That list and other bits serve no purpose, that's what I want to remove, not the speedo.
