For quite a while I used the roof cam because I felt like it came the closest to representing what it's like to sit behind the wheel and drive. After all, I don't have tachometers on my windshield like the default view gives, and in my experience you're looking down the hood when you drive. But I recently went back to the default view and removed the race info display (speedometer only so I could see my lap times), and it feels really organic. It's also quite fun to have to shift completely by ear and keep track of what gear I'm in. And having to judge braking distances and corner entry based on how fast it "feels" like I'm going is also a different kind of experience. I'm curious to how many people are now racing with the display off since they've added it in the game.
One thing that I dislike about having any part of the display turned off however, is that you can't see your tire wear. I guess that's realistic, but it's added a new challenge to the longer races for sure.
