Apart from a nice touch, I believe it would be useful online when trying to overtake a slower car or while lapping the field (especially around narrow courses where you can't go too wide). It's annoying when both drivers take the same line without voice-chat available to give quick mutual communication:ouch:

And also offline, should the AI be programmable to move out of the way. With proper button mapping, we still have a few spare buttons which can be used.

EDIT: I know that there are more important things to be fixed in GT5, but keep this one on topic.

If the slow car doesn't see you coming up on them, what makes you think they'll see you flashing a turn signal at them? And there's not enough free buttons for them to be easily used.

I don't mind, the more functions, the better.
But I've never flashed my lights, used wipers or used the horn when racing.
I've tried it on the first day of GT5, but that's it.

I don't think it will come to any use, but it sure would be fun to have that option :P Why not add flags? For example while getting lapped a guy behind a fence will wave with a blue flag to indicate that you should pass the leader.

Anyways.. I'm sorry for any incorrect words.

Edited the OP to clear things up a bit:lol:

Anyways, I have the R3 and L3 buttons freed up on my controller, with all the other functions still available.

Honestly, I don't feel that there's any need to include Indicators. You can use the horn if you want to signal other drivers online.

Could be useful for online track days or a free roam mode (for example in the city where the Special Stage tracks are) if it ever gets added.

If PD wants us to feel like real car-owners, they should be there. But at least the DS3 will simply not have enough buttons for this.

This poll is biased. How about 'No, it's not arcadey, but it's certainly not useful either'.

It's definitely not arcadey in my opinion, just useless. As someone else said, if sometime didn't see you coming up behind them, they won't see the signal. We've already got highbeam flashers which are what is actually used anyway.
A flag icon of sorts coming up on screen when the race leader is coming up behind you would be more helpful.

Turn signals are already in the game, look at the DB9 in the Top Gear Special Event video. It's just a case of coding them to buttons like the high beams and wipers.

We already have reverse lights, there's no reason not to include signals too. 👍

Nice, but pointless.
If the person you're passing or lapping can't figure out what he's supposed to do already when we have a horn and a high beam flash, then indicators aren't going to help him work it out either.

I wish we could edit polls:(
Added and voted for.

We already have headlights that can flash. After that, it's the slower cars responsibility to get out of the racing line and let the faster car(s) through.

And look how long we waited for that!

But look at real racing...they don't use turn signals. And they don't have communication between the drivers either. We at least have that.

Also, high beams look the same as low beams to other drivers online. I'm not sure whether or not you see flashes when the lights aren't on to begin with.

It is who gets passed who in real life in similar situations (track days) would use turn indicators to clarify its intents. Not who passes, or at least not in most cases.
Anyway, if PD cared to add reverse lights, they could add turn signals too. They would at least have some practical use which would require but a few hours of work over a total of (supposedly) months of man-hours in modeling a Premium car.

I don't think it would make a difference, most people I come across on the roads in real life don't take notice of indicators so I doubt people will in a game.

Well...
I suppose that 'everytime fully functional headlights' (position - normal - high beams - turn indicators - fog lights) would be a nice addition....

This. It's part of racing etiquette. Lots of peopelo should learn a little tiny bit of "racing education" before jumping in online races. :indiff:
I mean, IRL racers don't use turn indicators in a race. In fact, adding them is usually an extra weight and battery waste that hinder the car.
