What is your favourite gear?

Well people, what's your favourite gear?

1, off the line.
2, tight hairpins.
3, twisties.
4, long curvavious lines.
5+, straights.
I drive an auto, what is this gear thing you speak of.

I love 3rd gear. In real life, 3rd gear is a blast on both my bike and my car. That's where the money is.

Edit: Changed the thread title in the hope that it will help some people understand the poll.

3rd gear, you get to go over 100 k's (unlike 1st) and can accelerate (unlike 5th, 6th, or 7th)
 
In real life, 3rd/4th are the gears I'm usually in. But in the game this varies from track to track, but I'll give it a go.

1, off the line. = first
2, tight hairpins. = First or second
3, twisties. = Second or third
4, long curvavious lines. = Fifth or sixth
5+, straights. = Sixth or Seventh

Er... you didn't mention 4th :)

It is obviously going to be variable, as different vehicles have different ratios, power bands and gear count.

depend what car and the gear ratio......2nd gear in most cars is very good. Geear 3 is nice. Automatic just means you can never mess up a shift unless your gearbox is gone lol

My favourite gear is the one above what the game is recommending for the next corner :)

The game - "Slow down you need to get into second!"
Me - "Don't be daft ... It'll go round faster in third! :D"

Exactly. This thread is total, full-on, 100%, unequalled RETARD. What GEAR? Are you serious? EVERY gear in EVERY car is different. Second gear in my Skyline gets me to 75, but third gear in my clio gets me to 55, or how about the fact that my friends 'Vette gets to about 90 in second. This thread is the biggest fail I think I've possibly ever seen LUMAFO

I have had this discussion with my motoring friends. The general consensus between both my car racing friends and motorcycle friends is that 3rd gear is the business.

I guess it all depends on if you race in real life or not.

Edit: And yes I'm bored.

As above, third gear in what? Third gear can be ANYTHING. Seriously. Did you leave your brain in the bathroom this morning or something?

And yes, I'm a professional driver ;)

From what you are saying you should have called this thread - "What gear do you find to be a kind of multi purpose gear that can carry speed into a corner and that can really pull you out of it fast & because of this is it is your go to gear if the corner allows for it to be used? (Obviously you can't use it all of the time but hypothetically & no I'm not asking whether or not you like to drive around the Nurburgring only using third gear because you like that gear (although I can appreciate that is what you may expect from the previous title)) - Poll Included :)"

Because my fiat coupe just flies when I put the pedal to the metal...
goes over 100 km/h before I need to change to 3rd gear...

3rd gear on the various bikes I've ridden, in my WRX, in the rally buggies I've driven have all been the most fun. Also, in GT5 3rd is what I use in most vehicles when I'm having the most fun cruising through Nurburg, be it a touring car, a crappy Fiat, or the FGT.

Perhaps I can rephrase the poll to be "What types of driving do you prefer" and ignore the gear selection.

That being said, if you are driving some monster cars in real life, well I haven't been in anything over 500bhp.

the best gear is the gear you should be in. I've never heard of anyone with a preference in gear......weird.......

Not really. If I had to say 'most commonly used' gear, then I'd say third as any corner requiring either 1st, 2nd or 3rd, just gets the treatment in 3rd, whereas 4th and 5th only get used in much faster corners.

It depends ENTIRELY on the car I'm in. In my clio, 2nd, as it's the only gear with any acceleration, in my 4-door skyline, 3rd, because it's stock but has shortened final drive ratio, in my 2dr skyline, 4th, because it'll still spin the wheels in a straight line. EVERY car is different, so to make an arbitrary statement as to what gear one prefers is utterly unfathomable.

Generally I love third gear when in the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak, the acceleration on that thing is sooo much fun lol! :P
 
I like to stop the car, put it in top gear and see how slow it accelerates. Then do a whole lap in top gear. It's quite relaxing, unless you're in the X2010.
 
Does anyone know how I can get the dodge charger r/t?? I have every grandturismo game but nothin pissin me off more then 5 cuz I can't get my favorite car!!
