Would hood view fix the problem with standards for you?

One thing why GT is so fun is because of bumper view. Cockpit view is great as well, but the sense of speed is just not fun, maybe when I grow older it will be lol. I could care less about standart car views.

You mean only us old people like realism in our simulations

I really do not like bumper view yet in GT5 that is the view I often use because there is no hood view but hood view would be much better and adjustable hood view would be awesome. The side mirrors are also a very good idea. Would be nice to see this in GT6

you need to add a fourth choice "I don't have a problem with standards"

A hood / windshield cam mounted that provides an equivalent driver's side view (i.e. on the left / right side of the hood, not central) might be nice, especially if it also included virtual side mirrors on the edges of the screen.

It wouldn't solve any quality issues, but since we don't actually know how good / bad the new "unPremium" cars of GT6 will be compared to the "standard" cars of GT5 there may not be the same kind of quality issue.

Overall I'd still prefer having some sort of interior / cockpit view as well, even if it's something similar to the current silhouette type in GT5 (though I would it could be improved to at least show the relevant outside parts of the car like the hood / rear wing).

The more views the better, standard or premium.

Remember Chrysler Prowler. Do you know how its cockpit looks (in the first person view) after the 2.0 update? It is great! I think it is possible to make other cars' cockpits look like this as well.

No, hood cam is not an acceptable replacement. Doesn't help anything. The black cockpit view is a better option for us sim racers that care about immersion and are willing to sacrifice visibilty for realism. Hopefully though, they improve the black cockpits. Personally I'd rather them come up with generic cockpits than just have them black. Even if they're not totally accurate to the car, a premium cockpit would be better than a black one. Eitherway, I'm gonna use cockpit view. I really wish GT6 didn't even have the other views during gameplay. Each car has a unique amount of visibilty in real life, and the only way to simulate that is with cockpit view. I love that about iracing, only cockpit view is allowed.

Hopefully you will never get your wish as I would much rather use a hood view if it were there. The cockpit view is cool but it is not any more realistic than a hood view other than the wipers and weather on the windscreen obstructing vision. The problem is that it feels like you are in the back seat and that is not real feeling at all plus your view of the road is more obstructed than it would be in the real car.

When I drive in my car the area of the windscreen I am looking through is larger than my monitor screen and I do not notice the roof line, dash, roof post nor steering wheel obstructing my field of vision. When looking that the road I basically see the top of the dash, the windscreen wipers and hood.

I'm sure it's been mentioned but there is an on-the-fly option to shift your view forward until it's all pretty much windscreen - though with that view, you'll have only half of a rear-view mirror and no wing mirrors.

Not so strict... I'd like the game to give a bonus for using cockpit view only (say, extra XP). GRID had a thing like this.

It's not an acceptable replacement.

Hood view is something that should be in the game full stop, regardless of standards and premiums.

I see this thread hasn't had a response for a while but really wanted to add my take on this issue. I selected the "patch on the wound" option, but my view is more complex than that.

A bonnet view would be an excellent addition and would be what I would use for all cars. Currently I am using the first person camera (that's what I call it as it does give a sense of height, so I feel calling it the bumper cam is inappropriate).

What would be ideal is an adjustable cockpit (FOV and seat position) like in RFactor. I feel the importance of this is massively understated. To make a cockpit view feel correct there are multiple factors involved. Firstly, how big the monitor/TV you are using is. What may feel correct on a 42" screen will not feel the same on a 24". Secondly, it depends on where you are sitting in relationship to the television. If like me you are sat close to the screen using a wheel, a slightly wider FOV may feel more appropriate. If you are sat on the couch across the room a narrower FOV may feel better (many FPS games that were designed with consoles as the primary platform have narrower FOV for this reason). Thirdly and perhaps most importantly, user preference.

I personally didn't like the cockpit in GT5. It just didn't feel right to me. Mind you I preferred it to the one in Grid. I felt miles away from the track. Also the option to get rid of the drivers hands and wheel wouldn't go amiss. I like the idea of a bonnet cam as it's a view that feels good in most games I've used it in. I've disliked nearly all of the cockpit views on console games. Probably my favourite fixed cockpit view in any game was RBR's. It made me feel really immersed.

Edit/PS: As for the paint discussion. I think you should be able to just pay the the manufacturer for their colours and also have a custom paint feature with a colour wheel. Less fuss and more freedom.

A little bit of option 2 and 3. although I go with 3.

They could've done what they did with the Prowler. Give it a small amount of premium textures, working gauges and on top of that they can eliminate side and rear view (that you are not able to see the car in these views) so they save the effort of applying new textures to the rest of the interior.

I honestly don't like cockpit view.. it looks cool, but it makes me like playing on a 10" TV.
I only use cockpit view for replaying..

I guess I am just being optimistic. I am sure they will be added later as a patch like they did with GT5. I just don't know why he doesn't wait and fix the game 100% THEN launch it. I hate the mentality that developers have now of "Release now, patch later".

You say this, but I bet you among others (including myself) get annoyed when PD/KY delay the game to perhaps rectify things like this, then wonder why it doesn't happen since Kaz wants to please the fans and get the game out at some time. I am aware of the empty promises surrounding their whole operation, but you have to wonder why; fans are so hungry for the game and can only take so many delays before they turn around and buy 'a rival game'.
Do you get what I mean?

Anyway, after going massively off-topic, I think hood view would be great but it wouldn't automatically fix the 'problems' with Standard models. I'd still prefer the black outlines anyway to be honest, since it's more immersive than basically sitting on the bonnet of the car.

Another poll that missing the option for me. I use the HUD (bumper) cam most of the time so the premium/standard issue is no big deal to me.

I didn't vote as I don't see an option that I agree with. I would vote no, bonnet view wouldn't fix standards, as my only problem with them is they look so ugly, with drawn on jagged door lines which have reflections, among other visual things. I don't use cockpit view in GT5 as I can't adjust the FOV or get rid of the steering wheel.

I've just been posting on another thread here. Someone has just raised the point that by using the multi screen setup, you can make better adjustments to the FOV even if you are using single screen. It still won't address the issue of the steering wheel though.

The thread I am referring to is the epic whining and crying thread.

Oh really, that's great I'll have a look.👍

What annoys me most about GT games is the lack of consistency even with standards. Some cars have a pretty good "hood" view but most have the stupid roof cam. I'm definitely with the crowd that feel that there's no way to get comfortable using cockpit cam even if you tweak the zoom and angle of view to make it "windscreen" view ... the depth of field and POV are never really right for sensing perspective and yaw. But I digress. What kills me is how many cars, Standards in particular, that have a perfectly good hood view that is hidden in the replay cams when you "reverse" the rear view cam. In other words, set the cam looking back at your rear wing, then hold down the right paddle and voila, you are looking at a hood cam that you can never use to drive, only for replays. See this video at the beginning and then compare to around the 4 minute mark:

My point is yes, hood view on every car would be really nice (it's one of the best things about playing Forza, very consistent) and many of these cars clearly *already have it in there*.

Inconsistency? None of the cars have a hood view in GT5. It's nose cam, in car, roof cam and chase cam. No hood at all, in replay perhaps but it's odd that PD just completely overlook that hood cam is a great replacement for cockpit as it's about the same level just centered and gives you optimum viewing angle without annoying A pillars blocking your view. Only thing we can do is badger them about allowing hood cam or at least an option to set the camera where you feel most comfortable to drive. I never really understood having little options in terms of view point in driving games, well gimmicky one I understand but not in GT.

+1 I think you choose the right words that just would not pop up in my head.....nose cam. Since I use 1st person view the most I guess it would work on standard cars.
