Hi!
I know this has probably been asked a hundred times.
I can't afford the G27 or the Porsche 911 GT3 RS V2 and the DFGT really seems like too many compromises.
After looking around alot the Porsche 911 Carrera wheel just seems like THE perfect fit for me when it comes to cost and what it has.
If I understand correctly the 911 Carrera is "missing" the Shifter Paddles, as in the metal pieces?
How much "worse" is the gear drive vs smooth belt drive?
Would the gear drive last longer?

Overall I just think this seems like pretty good deal?!

Am I missing some big point here?
Seems to be worth the extra 60-70 bucks over the DFGT.

Thanks in advance

It doesn't have a paddle but it has buttons on the back of the wheel for shifting. You can buy a paddle later on if you want it..

My Carrera comes in tomorrow, cant wait!

I believe it is worth the extra but be aware of availabilty or more accurately unavailability at this time. I feel it would be worth the wait however, if you did take the plunge and order the Carrera:)

After watching some youtube clips I found this out.
The only problem is seems I can't get hold of the aluminum ones and the carbon are SO expensive here in Sweden, I'm not kidding, they cost >50 US DOLLAR

I'll just have to live with it and instead using the shifter.

The wheel will cost me around 270$ (yeah, I KNOW, but it's Sweden and we have 25% vat and only found one shop selling it besides Fanatec themselfs).
Have a friend that is going to the US but I don't really know HOW your supposed to get it back :D so I will probably just have to bite the bullet.

Also, I DO need a wheelstand.
As my grandfather is a pretty good carpenter so he could help me make it.
Anyone has a guide or something?
I was planning to sit in a chair like this:

Would that work?

EDIT:
I actually found the aluminum ones, 26$ :)

If you look around, there are loads of good designs in here. You could for instance start by looking through this thread for some inspiration. Then ask your gramps if he's able to help you build what you want, and if he needs blueprints and instructions, I'm sure you can get help from the others in here.

Good luck, mate. It's time consuming, but great fun and satisfaction.

Ok , so I went through your same process........got the DFGT, wanted more (clutch, 6spd shifter, etc) so I bought the Carrera 911 setup cuz it was a great price for the kit. It wasn't for me (although an awesome wheel setup) I just got my G27 yesterday, and even though you can't map buttons, the thing is just perfect. I love everything about it.

With the 20% off from logitech (they are in stock, buddy ordered one last night) it's $239 and worth every penny.

Having put hours on the DFGT, Carrera, G27 (bought in that order)
I would rank them
1) G27 (if you could map the buttons for the PS3 - this wheel would be perfection)
2) DFGT
3) Carrera (again great wheel, but to grand touring for me, I like the twitchy race-y feel the logitechs give)

If you aren't gonna use the clutch/shifter and just use paddles, I'd go DFGT 100% also because its integrated PS3 controls are just amazing. (if you are PC only, disregard)

For ME, the G27 from the Logitech website runs at a whopping 440$ (which is the price here in Sweden), yes you read it correct.
The Carrera would cost me around 265$

Seems like you quite dislike the Carrera.
Have watched som youtube videos, both official reviewers and more "unofficial" and most of them like it.

For $160US the Carrera is a complete package, and if I was trying to keep it cheap, I'd go for it. The kinda "broken" Fanatec clamps will basically require some mounting help tho.

Heck, I'd get it and a Clubsport table stand or even a Rennsport Wheelstand and that's a nice, no compromises setup for less than you pay for just the wheels with the G27 or T500.

In the end, I went for the Carrera wheel, read my post here
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=171403

And as for the paddle shifters, I couldn't afford the wallet slaughtering carbon ones, so I decided to make my own ones
Made them out of acrylic, very rigid and doesn't flex, and covered it with 3M CF:

They do the job brilliantly, no fault with them at all :D

No the carerra is great you will love it! It was just too smooth for me and my preference :)

Interesting, did you mess around with any of the configurable settings like "drift" mode and whatnot? If so, did they not help at all?

I did...went through practically every setting combo. Wheel is awesome ...I only play on the PS3 right now so compatibility wasn't an issue, it just wasn't the feel I wanted/liked. It's hard to explain I guess....

You will love it...personally I'm a G27 guy, it is perfection for what I want/like all the way down to the way it feels when I grip it...

It's all preference IMO. I have had both the Logitech G25 and a Carrera wheel. I prefer the physcial feel of the Carrera...the look of the wheel, the larger diameter and thick wheel, the life size shifter that offers resistance with each shift, the spaced out placement of the gas to brake to clutch pedal.

On the other hand the force feedback is noticeably stronger on the Logitech, and the return to center is miles ahead faster than the Fanatec making things feel more "alive" in your hands. The feel and look of the pedals are obviously superior as well.

Even though these wheels offer similar features, they perform night and day different than each other. G25/27 is like a sports car...the Carrera is like a sport compact car.

my ps3 went yellow light today=( wat other games besides gt5 can u play on the computer with using the 911 carerra wheel? im dieing for some racing action this weekend work was wayyyy drowsy this week and nowwww no p3!?!?!?!!? NOOOO:tdown:👎
