But it's a hybrid. It pretty much caters to the Hollywood crowd that drive their exotics to the corner cafe, and then back home again. It's disgusting. Why can't they make it a diesel or something.

I really don't care who its aimed at. I am interested in the evolution of technology, this car will be absolutely rapid and looks decent while its at it.

With gobs of torque right from the off, thanks to the electric motor, this thing will launch fast and just carry on getting faster as the 500hp ICE starts delivering the high end power. Its a great combination of to separate power sources, and that before we even talk about pleasing the greenies, with its stellar 95mpg (assuming that is an accurate estimation).

According to Porsche, their estimated times are slower than the current 911 Turbo. It did the deed in 2.9 seconds according to their latest test.

But yes, it will please the greenies, and I agree that it looks cool.

They need to build a car with a similar shape, its the best looking Porsche since the Carrera GT.

I think the car is bloody amazing. I can't fault the look in any way, generally speaking, and I like the powertrain that they've come up with. Thing is, I'm not sure what they're planning to do with this. Seeing as how I can't figure out if this is bigger or smaller than the Boxster/Cayman, its hard to tell if this is that long-rumored 914 successor.

as long as the base car comes with i4/H6 and with no electric motors, I'd buy it.

Good god that is just pure sex. I love it and if I were rich I'd so totally buy one.

Hybrid or not, I'd definitely rock this thing at the track. Yes, I hate hybrids. But how many companies have produced one with legitimate sporting credentials? I almost feel like the hybrid system probably does more good than harm in this. But we'll see. Other than that, I definitely love it. And the great gas mileage certainly doesn't hurt.

But why are they running a V8? Why not the sweet V10 from the CGT or a flat-6 from the 911 series? That'd be much more 'Porsche' than the setup they currently have.

I just thought of something that worries me. I hope Porsche don't make this an electric car like Mercedes-Benz that's really expensive and has gobs of power yet a Honda Civic Type R can outrun it.

Wait, what? When's the last time you saw a CTR that could (theoretically, I'll give) hit 60 in 3.2s and run a 7:30 at the Nurburgring?

No, I think that's backwards. Electric motors are probably for cruising at speed or something.

This thing is basically a Prius in terms of how it operates. At least that's what I've gathered so far.

They're running a V8 because of the 2011 ACO rules that basically makes the current LMP2 cars as the basis of the future LMP1 prototypes.

If you read between the lines, this car is the basis for what they want to run at Le Mans. That's why the engine is based on the one from the RS Spyder.

The name '918 Spyder' is a BIG hint that this could be the successor for the great 917. (Which means, it'll be a top of the line, race ready supercar that none of us are likely to afford if they sell a roadgoing version to the public that is)

Or simply because they've modified it from the Hybrid V8 they're just about to bring out in the Cayenne.

LOL, the Cayenne V8? That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard!

I love the past styling cues. The front headlights echo the old 904 & the 906. The taillights & spoiler (when viewed from the side) are reminiscent of the 911 GT1. And there's the CGT styling nods. Etc.

The 911 is a different sort of car... 2+2 for starters.

More like 4-2= 2 only :sly: but they should make one of this in the scale of the Lotus elise for their 4 cylinder boxter. 💡

Porsche is back... I just saw this car on the net and I'm hooked... Pure car Pr0n right there!! 👍 to Porsche!

That car is allegedly coming... but it will more likely be based on the small VW roadster concept car.

The 918 will be more of a low volume halo model if it makes production.

No reason why styling elements from the 918 couldn't/wouldn't be used on a smaller version though... afterall, Porsche do have a bit of a reputation for adopting a one size fits all when it comes to styling.

I don't mean around the 'Ring. I mean top speed. You have to admit the SLS eDrive having a top speed of 125 mph is dissapointing since it has 570 HP.

As far as the Porsche, I hope they make this! I've gotten over the side-exhaust, although I don't think the wheels look silly at all. I think they suit the car nicely.

why? what is so disappointing about it? I laugh at people who make top speed such a huge deal. Look my car goes to speeds 2x that of what I could ever do, look at my penis grow!

There's your car.

Look, Bragging rights are bragging rights, especially in that market way up in the sky. Anything sensible can be thrown right out the window, (because all the sensible billionares - I kid you not - drive cars you or I would drive.)

Top speed (and the acceleration that typically comes with it,) are wonderful selling points to someone who typically is interested and wants a supercar at this level. However, when you start talking about a car that looks like a supercar, "I have a big dick" looks and all, but would clock slower at Nardo than a Mondeo V6 with duct tape applied in a few strategic places...well...

You tell me what's worse.

To bring this back on topic...This is a porsche, one that still has a real engine. Unlike the pure electric SLS, it should go reasonably fast.

Except they just kinda sorta do.

It's hard to have the power to do 200mph and be able to call the car slow accelerating. It's possible to have very rapid acceleration up to 60mph and have that be your top speed as well but that's not the point.

Not really, no. You could give a car 4 tall gears and 600hp and it would still do 200mph+. Supercars are full of compromises. They care about 6th gear fuel economy so they give them 600hp and a tall 6th in order to do 60 at 2000rpm.

 And would you really care how quickly your car could accelerate if the top speed was only 1mph?

Acceleration isn't dependent on top speed and vice versa. After all you could start a vette in 5th and still reach 180mph could you not?

Did you, or did you not just compromise your entire point?

I just noticed something was edited out...

Yes, but you'd need to accelerate in order to get to 180, wouldn't you?

Let's not get this topic closed over something retarded, please.

how do you even respond to that? What did I compromise? This isn't retarded, some people just seem to think that top speed and acceleration are dependent on each other.

Acceleration isn't dependent on top speed and vice versa.

And vice versa? How do you reach a top speed if acceleration is not necessary?

After all you could start a vette in 5th and still reach 180mph could you not?

Good luck getting that thing to move from a stop in 5th gear (if you even could) without destroying your clutch.
