Just want to say congrats to the Porsche/Penske/DHL team for their win at Laguna this weekend. I didn't read about the race on Saturday so that I could watch on Sunday. In the car's first ever competitive race, they set pole for the LMP2 class, set fast lap in the race for LMP2, and won the race for the class. No problems whatsoever to be seen. Great car.

Not that many people were expecting less. You get sports car racing's biggest powerhouse, Porsche, teamed up with one of auto racing's best teams, Penske, and you have a major force to be reckoned with. Congrats team Porsche/Penske/DHL on the win. Can't wait for the 2006 season.

Congratulations to Porsche. Hopefully they will continue to do well and bring it to Le Mans next year.

But damn, my math teacher is down at Monterey area this weekend. He knew about the race, but he wanted to "get away from the people". So he said he's going to "go the other way". Too bad he missed this race.

I saw the race. They literally obliterated the track record. Congrats to Porsche and co.

I think Audi should be getting a little nervous about this. The LMP1 category is now the only one in ALMS that Porsche hasn't won in since the series was started in 1999. And, with as well as they've done in just one outing in LMP2, the next logical step would be to start looking into building an LMP1 car.

I can only hope they are thinking the same thing. But, either way, next year should be a great step for them. There's just something about Porsche racing that I love. Can't wait too see them in full action, especially at Sarthe in June. LOVE IT!!!!

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

Too bad I didn't see this race! :guilty: I love the Porsche name and their cars! I hope they can keep on winning year after year! 👍 :O

Actually, the ALMS needs to be doubly concerned about this because of the dire consequences in store if the rest of the new generation of LMP2's can't close the gap in the off season.

Think about it. What the ACO (in their grand shortsightedness) has done with the new regs is tell all of the teams they have to invest in brand new cars. All of the teams, by the end of 2006 have to be competing in new spec LMP2 cars. That means new Courages, Lolas, Radicals, Lucchinis, and Pilbeams all around. It's a very large expenditure for teams to make ESPECIALLY when sponsorship is sparse.

What's more, if the Penske-Porsche remains all conquering as shown at Laguna Seca (that close to grandfather clause LMP900/LMP675 cars with years of development is spooky fast out of the box) then it'll be impossible for teams to justify spending all of that money on an LMP2 car without a chance at victory unless luck is purely on their side.

If the Porsche becomes the singular winning car in LMP2, competitors will not compete in LMP2, they will not buy LMP2 chassis, and LMP2 chassis constructors will search elsewhere for money. This was already proven in the WSC/LMP era when a myriad of chassis builders built solid chassis only to be crushed by the Audi juggernaught. As such, they scrapped their WSC/LMP efforts and went elsewhere.

The most high profile defections were Crawford, Fabcar, Riley, Picchio, and Doran. All of whom backed the GARRA Daytona Prototype class and have enjoyed varying levels of success at it, but certainly increased chassis sales.

This was what I was thinking when I heard about the prototype. All the LMP2 weren't that fast and at least one of them had problems during a race. I knew the when the Porsche would start racing it would be fast. It's like that Viper in the GT1 class, except the majority of the class is slower.
