If you have a 'shark, or AR, you can.
Otherwise the Porsche isn't readily available.

Indeed, the horror!

Yeah, gil got you on the initial question and 911 caught you with the common sense :D jk...

If you dont have a sharkport, then just let go of it, but this might help you do that...

The porsche gt3 in gran turismo three can not have any upgrade applied in the game, nor can it adjust in any way.

The only way to get more than stock hp, or an adjustable suspension is to use parts from other cars thanks to the mks program.

Without a sharkport or mks, there is nothing nice about the porsche besides actually seeing that it is in the game.

Good luck, and indeed, use the search function.

*Alois Ruf completely rebuilds the cars he obtains from Porsche. They are then Ruf creations, not Porsches.:D

Which is why Ruf is a recognised marque unlike tuners such as Brabus and Abt.

Take one Porsche.

Take RUF stuff.

Put stuff on Porsche.

Sounds like tuning to me.

no that is called hybriding, tuning would be modding or adding after market parts done by the companys aftermarket company.

and for the defense of famine, Ruf and Porsche are not one in the same... If they were the would also have to sue nissan because the 350z looks so much like a 996-911

Ruf remanufactures the entire car from the frame up.
It looks like a Porsche. But it doesn't walk or talk like a Porsche.:D
It is a whole new car.

why does it look like a porsche?

cause basically it is. i mean, these non-porsche cars could easily be mistaken for porsches....

they are tunas in a sea of car manufacturers(pun intended). they get the raw porsche and improve on it....
like who is it? gemmbelli gambelli? completely different car, but still a prosche :P

I dont see why everyone is complaining. RUFs are faster than normal Porsches anyway. I think they look slightly cleaner too. Oh well.

It depends on the laws of the nation whcih tunes/manufactures the cars. In Germany, Ruf's considered a manufacturer in it's own right because it has to comply with the same laws as all other auto manufacturers in Germany. For example, the cars are crash-tested, have mufflers and seatbelts; they aren't racing specials.

(...waiting for the buzzer...)

...and besides, it's a nifty way for Polyphony to get Porsches in the game!

Ruf manufacture - or replace - more than 70% of the original components of the car, which is what makes them a manufacturer under German law (along with Brabus).

In Ruf's case, the only component they share with the Porsche is the main part of the body.

Buy a Ruf in the USA and the vehicle registration document will say "Ruf", not "Porsche".

ok so you can get a car THAT LOOKS LIKE A PORSCHE but isnt right? so what country makes it? and what is a shark port? did you mean game shark?

*sigh*

Ruf - named after their GERMAN founder, Alois Ruf - produce cars based on Porsche models. In GT3 you can buy the Ruf 3400S (looks like a Porsche Boxster), a Ruf RGT (looks like a Porsche 996 911 GT3) and a Ruf CTR2 (looks like a Porsche 993 911 Carrera 4).

A Sharkport is a device used to connect the PS2 to a PC via a pair of USB cables. NO it isn't a Game Shark.

You can, if you are in the US or Japan and have a US or Japanese copy of the game, acquire an actual Porsche - the Porsche 996 911 GT3 - by the wonders of cheating, either with a Game Shark OR a Sharkport.

There is an actual Porsche 911 GTR in the game, but is has to be Sharkported into your save. It can't be bought or sold, though I did not know it can't be adjusted. Look on the Hybrides and Gamesharks forum for more information.

Rather summed it up nicely.

Use the Search, use the words "Porsche" and "Gameshark" and limit it to the Hybrids & Gamesharks forum.

You might like to make a note of what version Gameshark you have.

And please, use the Search function before you ask ANY question, in case it's been covered before. GTP doesn't exist as a wet-nurse - and the moderators don't exist somply to close repeated threads.

Since I know 98% of you are at home pronouncing his last name wrong as well, I thought I'd try to tell you how to say it properly.

Roll the "R" and pronounce it roof.
It is, after all, a persons name and should be pronounced correctly.

Ruf buys bare shells (mostly white ones) from Porsche and the journey begins there. If you know anything about cars, you should know that not all manufacturers build their own body shells. They are often sub-contracted out to other companies (such as Karmann...the only one I can think of at the moment). So this is not an un-common practice.

My favorite Ruf story:
In the old days (87ish) they wouldn't put sunroofs in unless a customer absolutely demanded it. Reason? Above 200mph they tend to be sucked clean out of the car.

Previously this wasn't a problem as not many cars would do 200+mph in 1987(ish). Road & Track did a top mph shootout sometime in 89 and the 87 Ruf "YellowBird" won that contest with a top speed of 211mph. There is an excellent video of this car taking a couple laps around Nurburgring available on dvd and I'm sure floating around the web that is an absolute MUST HAVE. Simply some of the best driving footage I have seen ANYWHERE.

Sorry to dredge up this old post,

So that explains why the color choices in GT3 are horrible...pink, but not red?!?

Funny, you killed everyone in this thread that classified RUF as PORSCHE'S. Yet you just Classified a RUF as a PORSCHE

Not often you see that from Famine, I'm sure it was a deliberate mistake.

Common mistake for those of us that actually know what a Ruf is and is all about. We actually rarely say Ruf, usually just refer to them as BTR, CTR, RGT, Yellowbird, etc.

I don't actually think Famine was trying to be rude. I think he was overstating to try to get his point across. And that is that Ruf's cars are much more than just a "tuned Porsche".

Not everyone can be fully educated on every mark, and I'm sure I could learn a lot from everyone else on other marks. But I do know a fair amount about Porsches and Rufs. I was just sharing some of my knowledge with everyone as I would hope others would do for me on cars I know little or nothing about.

Anyone care to give me a Lancia lesson?
