So what the hell do you "Listen" to while your on the move

I have a Sony MZ-E55, which was a total impluse purchase about three years ago. But even now when I'm changing discs for it, I see passers-by looking at it, going "What the ****'s that????"

Really want one of those Net MDs though. Currently I records MP3s onto really really cheap CDs (like 17p each), then copy the CD onto a MD, then bin the original CD. I know, not very good for the planet, but needs must where the devil drives.

Oh, and I might mention that this player has just done an entire transatlantic flight on its internal rechargeable battery, and then the external battery has been going strong for 17hrs and counting!!

I hate having to do that, I have to burn the CD then go through the recording on my PS2 via the optical. I tend to just put the CD`s that I buy on minidisc.

My friend has the same MZ-700 (or whatever mine is called) but he has the PC link cable for it. Although I have heard that it is compatible with my model because it looks exactly the same.

How big is your minidisc player then?
Mind you I think the sony players are good for battery life. Mine usally lasts me for about 2 weeks from occasional trips to work and back and it only takes a couple of hours to charge.

Portable music is great!

OK, I got the model number wrong, it's the MZ-E75, not E55 as previously stated. Here's a really rubbish picture of it I just took. I've labelled the bits...

Oh youve got one of those flat style batterys!
I have those for my crappy MP3 player and my old walkman, they last for aaaaaages!

My MD player has one of those silver AA batterys but I dont have one of those screw on external batterys. Although the standard sony headphones seem to hurt my ears after a few hours use so I bought some nice sony in ear ones (theyre more bassy as well)

Ohhhh look youve got the same minidiscs as me!
Those sony anti shock ones that come in all different colours. Mind you ive only used the blue and the green one :D

Yeah this is actually my second rechargeable battery, and it's currently good for about 9hrs, which is really good for a player with moving parts. Since it's straight NiCd, it suffers from charging memory, and that's why I had to get a new one, which, incidentally, was a fairly simple matter through the Sony Care web site.

I find the standard headphones really good unless there's a significant external noise source, such as four engines as slung under the wings of a 747! As for brand of disc, do you believe that it makes a difference? I don't! I jus buy whichever ones are on offer.

And the best thing of all about minidiscs is the blanking procedure:
Press Edit
Rotate edit selector knob 8 stops clockwise (Erase All)
Push edit selector knob
Push edit selector knob again

Done! Actually, I really like minidiscs as a whole. Still really want a NetMD though!
 
Trust me the discs make a difference!
I bought some cheap bush minidiscs when I first got my player. I then went to the gym and did some running and weights, while I was running the disc kept skipping all the time and eventually it got so bad I stoped using the darn thing. Trust me you can shake the player all you want (although I wouldnt advise doing this ;) )and it wont skip with those sony discs. Yeah my erase is infact too easy as I found out, I recorded tons of stuff with the long play feature. What you do on mine is press stop press the menu select edit and then press erase. If you do it while it is lying a track or has one selected it erases the track. I tried to erase the final track but it got to the end of the track and the minidisc stopped just 2 seconds before I pressed the erase button. So basically I erased 4 cd`s worth of music of my minidisc with one press of a button. I wasnt best pleased to say the least, so I always click the write protect tag on it just incase I do something like that again. Whoo what a long story!
 
Well, my Sony discman is trashed. I'm thinking of getting one of those Archos 6 GB, or 10 GB jukebox MP3 players. I've read some good reviews on it. 230 bucks to hold about 10 GBs of music isn't too bad.
 
I think ill record a minidisc with all my favorite bad religion stuff on it today.

BTW does your minidisc take about three seconds to spin up to speed, I really hate that I like to have the music playing instantly when I press the button.
 
Just got an ARCHOS 20 GB MP3 Jukebox. Haven't been able to test it out yet though as it needs 12 days to charge the batteries. Ok, only 8, but I'm anxious to use it.

Mmm, 20 GB of listening pleasure. i.e. no Bruce Springsteen or Chris Isaak.
 
iim glad no one has yet to say they are a hermit :) ... anyway,i use a sonywalkman, just the regular portable disc player, and i listen to just about everything, not to much country, but heavy metal, rap, pop, you name it, its all better than nothing!
 
One of my coleauges at work has a Creative 20gb jukebox. Its got so much space after his music collection he had to resort to putting songs off animaniacs on to it :lol: . Although his one is firewire whats yours USB 2.0??
 
Yeah, USB 2.0.

Haven't been able to use the freaking thing yet. Just got around to putting about 1200 songs on it and it is taking a hell of a long time.
