Possibility of a new Logitech wheel (G29?)?

This may seem like a silly thing to ask, but with Christmas approaching it seems relevant.

Anyone know if there's any possibility of Logitech replacing the G27 anytime too soon? It seems strange that the G27 is still top dog for Logitech considering A: how old (relatively) the G27 is and B: how fierce the competition has become (T500, Fanatec, etc).

Obviously anything at this point is going to be speculation and rumor. However, I haven't seen this topic mentioned yet so hopefully we can at least get a brainstorming session going.

Cheers. 💡

let down lol

I thought same thing, going to come into a rumor or link.

The thing is, the G27 is still a very quality wheel, especially for a mid level wheel. It does a lot and does it well and is priced very reasonably. I just don't see a new one right now. It seems like it sells well still and I think they will allow T500 and CSW to take the high end market. They know people will look to upgrade from DFP's and DFGT's and most of them won't be looking to spend $500+, so a lot of them will look at the G27.

^^ what he said. I thought it was about a rumor but it's a question instead. :(

The answer is that nobody has heard anything from the Logitech camp, not a thing at all.

Sorry about the misleading title guys.

I put the "?" in it to try and prevent that, but obviously it's not a proper solution.

This just seems like a topic that should be discussed because I can imagine a lot of people are thinking about giving/getting G27's for Christmas this year.

Well, I don't expect any G29 for the first half of 2012 from Logitech. I haven't heard about them showing anything at expo's and the like. So people should just buy a G27 if they wish to do so to please their loved ones this Christmas. It'll be too long of a wait.

^ agreed.... the g27 is selling like hotcakes... why make anothe one if they can sell the previous wheel more than FANATEC or any othe wheels

How much info on the G27 was there and how long was it before it came out? Was it months before release? I didn't follow it's release at all.

I just have a hard time thinking of what they can do to significantly improve the G27 without raising the price point much. There isn't much. I guess they could use better springs in the pedals. I NIXIM 2.0 modded mine and it's great. But that's my point, I don't think they want to raise the price point beyond what G27 released at.

If anyone is thinking of buying a G27 or getting it as a gift this Christmas than I think they can do so with confidence. Great wheel, even if an updated version came out sometime next year.

EXACTLY.... you have everything for $200... LOL cant really beat that specially pedal and shifter are included... compare to others... well... you get my point... :sly:

Imo Logitech has the potential to rock the sim racing world with a g29 if that ever comes out....

If that can manufacture a brilliant wheel and have it slot in for $400 yet be more impressive than that T500RS they would sell sooo many of them.

Well of course they would sell a lot, but how can they produce a profitable wheel that is better than the T500 for $400? I would love to see it happen but not likely at that price. Thrustmaster and Fanatec are finding out people are willing to pay $500+ for quality equipment. Logitech would charge in a similar price range if they built the same level or wheel. Why? Because people will pay it.

No, Logitech gave up on wheels.

Rather than giving up, I think the company (Logitech) is being realistic. At the moment G27 is the only $200 FFB wheel set (that includes pedal) that's available through retailers. They've got the market cornered since most people isn't willing to spend money of $400+ wheels from TM or Fanatec. It's wiser for Logitech to keep the current tooling for the G27 since it's pretty much the same as G25 which means their initial investment is still paying.

Thou shalt buyeth and useth a proper wheel from the book of Logitech: chapter G:27.

There is but only one wheel, the G27, and Gran Turismo is his game.

Thou shalt teach thy children in the way of Turismo, and live thy life by strictly following The Book of Turismo.
