Is this the Lancia Delta HPE concept?

Next week, Fiat luxury subsidiary Lancia is expected to unveil a new concept car to preview the forthcoming Lancia Delta HPE. An image purportedly of an official design illustration leaked online today. While we cannot confirm its authenticity, we'd be surprised if it was entirely fictional. Although it's unlikely the car would ever find its ways to U.S. shores, we suspect our European readers and even design buffs here in North America will be interested to see what could be Lancia's latest creation. Full image after the jump…

An interestion design but as for it's appeal I don't know...

Its like half Pontiac, half BMW, and I don't like it. Isn't this the same car as the Alfa Romeo Brera? Atleast we will get it, kinda, and it would be graced with the good looks of it's sibling...

mmm, don't exactly look like a Delta should.

I'm thinking something like the new Dodge Challenger's front, with Lancia grille, and perhaps some harder, straighter lines in the back half. that one looks too Bangle-ish.

and Martini Racing paint, of course

The Delta can not be recreated. It was a classic and had a shape that could not be redesigned. The Miura concept stayed true to the original car and so still looked stunning. The same cannot be done with the Delta.

I quite like the design but I certainly would agree with Dunc, the delta can't be recreated, and even if it could, this most certainly shouldn't be it.

boring the grille ruins the car

While I agree, its about the only part of the car that would not change, as its the Lanica 'family' grille.

Never liked the new Lancia's front ends since they introduced it, the rest of the car however I quite like the looks of.

I do however always reserve final judgement on any car for when I see one in the 'metal' for the first time. Too many cars look poor in pictures only to look stunning when you actualy see them (and of course the opposite is also quite true).

That's because the Miura concept was a carbon copy of the original. To do so with the Delta would require a hark back to a car design thought up in the 70's, and I don't think that car segment could pull off retro.

I also agree....... it looks great in its own right...... but not a recreation of the delta... it doesnt look like the original at all..... but I love its style..... looks like a grande punto, vauxhall, peugeot something cross...... basically all the euro superminis mixed into a supercar angluar shape... really like it! :sly:

If it looked like the delta it would look like a box

EDIT... just found another picture of the rear... dont know if its part of this concept or not but it looks similar...

typical concept. all i'd have to say is that they should widen the grille opening to just barely touch the headlight buckets. that's all it needs

i agree, though, it does look "bangleish"...but wasn't the original ...crap...same designer that did the golf 1 i believe. it kinda looks like a beamer 6 series.

Well its an improvement over the current range... though a block of cheese would be an improved look over a Thesis. I still dont understand how anybody with balls would buy a Lancia over an Alfalfa. Stranger still, FIAT sees to it that the best looking car on sale in the world (the 159) and worst (Thesis) come from their factories. Way to keep a broad spectrum. :ouch:

Confucious say: The racial stereotype of a buck-toothed Chinese man is not a good inspiration for car design.

Okay, okay...it could also be a dog with its head out the window at 100mph...or a cartoon wasp that's grinning as it's swooping down to sting an unsuspecting victim.

There are some neat touches in that design. They just need to make them...uh...work. :indiff:
