These Cars are exactly the same:
392.S Lexus GS 300 ‘00
393.S Lexus GS 300 Vertex Edition (J) ‘00

I have both of them and there is abosuletly no difference. And they are both American, so why are there 2 of the same cars with different names in the game? It seems as if the "1,000" car limit is a joke

The J stands for Japan. The Vertex must be a special edition for Japan only.

I do think its a 1000000 limit, if it was 1000 I wouldn't look at this game again

Same reason in real life... some of the cars won't pass emissions or crash test regulations for some races in the game.

j/k. Even Kaz has come out and said that at one time, the subtle differences made offering the option worth it... at one time that is. Now, with so many cars, even Kaz thinks it's a bit much.

And it's a little late to cry about it now. Look for changes in GT6, and for another thread about this topic to appear... again.

It's a way of artificially padding the game's car list numbers. There's several instances of identical cars slapped with different names or branded under different manufacturers. This became glaringly obvious to me when two identical cars were listed next to each other in the UCD, but under different names. I went back and forth comparing them, and they not only looked identical but their specs were also identical (aside from one having a handful more miles on it than the other).

My father told me theres no such thing as a stupid question.

I was going to say something to that effect. I normally tell people that if there's something you don't know, it's only stupid to not ask.

I was B-specing the world cup for $$ last night and noticed that the:

350z LM Race Car
FairladyZ LM Race Car

Are completely identical.

Those two are very similar, my guess is that one was meant to be run in the US and the other in Japan, but since both were concepts I guess it didn't really go anywhere past initial discussion.

Duh. One is LHD, the other is RHD.

But seriously, that is the difference for many of the rebadged or dual market cars... Steering wheels on different sides of the dash (watch the replays) and not much else. There are only a few instances where regional variations are accurately reflected. These include extra weight and softer tuning on US cars... And in some cases, lower power output.

Because PD likes to pretend that there are 1000 cars in this game. The GS300 Vertex Edition, as an FYI, doesn't exist in real life. And the real life GS300 model isn't remotely accurate to real life.

That's Kaz covering his ass. Previous games in the series that offered regional variations made an attempt to make those variations accurate. That's why it wasn't a problem for, say, GT2 to have the Lexus SC300, Lexus SC400 and Soarer 2.5 GT.

GT5 slaps the USDM name on JDM models and pretends they are different cars (Acura and Inifiniti being the exceptions). That's why it is a problem now and it wasn't a problem in the past.

There was no car to base it on. PD made both of them up. Or, rather, PD made up the Fairlady Z and then Copy-Pasted it under the 350z name.

Crooooooow
Actually, Lexus is the American Luxury brand for Toyota.

But doesn't it show a Japanese flag when you look at the cars In Garage or dealership? To me that makes it Japanese. I'm sure there built in Japan also.

You might want to do some research on that one, pal. You'd be amazed at how few cars make the trans-pacific journey than you might expect. ;)

Ok maybe there not all built in japan, I admit my mistake there but that Dosnt make it American. Thats like Dodge been built here and me saying that British that. It just wouldn't sound right.

Edit: I wish they would make right hand drive American muscle cars here.

Lexus was originally launched in 1989 as Toyota's luxury marque for the US but the brand also expanded globally.
In 2005 Toyota launched Lexus in Japan thus becoming the first Japanese company to launch an overseas brand in it's country of origin. Until then they were all badged as Toyota's.
Wikipedia.... It rocks. :-)

No, Lexus is jointly registered in Japan and Germany... it's a Euro-Japanese company. As already pointed out it's how Toyota sell many of their models in the US. In Europe they sell their luxury models this way.

Toronado

It does - they're available in the UK as 'imports'. They have a 3.0l TT engine I believe. They're pretty rare and have a tendency to become accidentally destroyed. At speed.

I know what you meant, but that made me smile :D

I do think that I'd rather GT5 had included a wider spread of models (all premium of course :sly:) rather than focussing on a number of minor differences between other identical models... but having said that I still haven't run out of fun cars to drive!

I've bought the first car on your list after reading the description. This 4-door sedan is powered by a frickin' 2JZ(Toyota Supra engine)!!! After a few races I saw the Vertex Edition and grabbed that as well thinking it may be a better version that the one first purchased. In my opinion, the differences are mainly in the name and the exterior. If I remembered correctly, the Vertex Edition has a small rear wing whereas the normal version doesn't have one.

Ok maybe there not all built in japan.

That's all I was going for. I'm not trying to pretend I know which models are made where. I certainly don't have the time and energy to look that up myself and I wouldn't expect you to either. Except Toronado. He knows everything

Now that I did not know. Learn something new every day! :D
