This is what a good friend of mine UKORedgar did with a couple minutes in the hands of a GT5 demo. It shows some nice, new smoke effects in the game.
Enjoy :sly:

Looks great. Especially the new smoke effects. And your friend's quite the drifter.

Nice drifting UKO. You should have added xat.com/evergreendrift on there hehe.

Not yet... We'll start inviting people into the drift chat once the game gets closer to releasing. :)

Man...the only thing that's separating GT5 from looking like a video game to real life in the video is the slower dispersion of smoke into the environment, and that's most likely absent because PS3 is already pushed to the limit with all the amazing stuff we've seen and the it can't spare the extra RAM to do the job. But wow...the smoke effects do make such a big difference. 👍👍👍

Lol, pad user, n00b. Lol jk, nice drifting there, smoke looks nice, but i'm never the one to complain about GT5, but the smoke should really stick around a bit more.

I don't even think have a DFGT/G27 setup for the demos @ best buy/target.

I think the new build GT5 has better smoke effect, and it has SKIDMARKS! And I like how the weight of SLS is showing on this drift. It's not like GT5p where you can do a lot of fast drifts, even on a heavy car. But, there's still no oversteer when doing burnout (last part on the video). :( I hope they do put it on the final build, or else there's no point of standing start.

Pretty nice driving there!

It does kind of highlight the shortfalls in the smoke effect... it looks more like the car has two tubes shooting out puffs of steam than two tires creating smoke...

Since the smoke disappear so fast , I hope when in Drift mode or TT mode with 1 car on the track, the smoke could stay longer, that be awesome. By the way its a DEMO, and not official full GT5 copy. Still missing out skidmarks and various other small things. So maybe not first ever GT5 drift.

It looks like the smoke is programmed in a way where it can only be so far from the car. I am sure that if they could have 16 cars kicking up slow & lingering smoke without taking a hit in framerate they would do it... All in all it looks good!

Smoke strarts, stops and disappears wayyyy to quickly. Doesn't look remotely realistic :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy:

Also, tell your friend to keep the music to cod montages. Car guys prefer exhausts as music.

Agree. I really don't like the smoke like that at all. Looks completely unrealistic.

The smoke texture is good but it disapeers to early but I'm sure PD will change it if not its probly because they can't due to hardware.

Read guys READ! :nervous:

lol so prologue one was better ;)

be glad that smoke is improved :)

In fact, I like the smoke better in Prolouge, or should I say the lack of smoke:)

I looks just weird with in that build, too thick and it disappears too quickly. It's just like the smoke is controlled by a on and off button. It looks ugly and if it will looks like that in final product the smoke will ruin my replays:D

Compare to this

No, I'm not against smoke but the smoke in that drifting video doesn't look like real smoke at all. It's not common that you end up in a smoke cloud by just pulling the hand brake. I'm hoping that the smoke will be more dynamic in the final build and that the amount of smoke will depend on tire temperature:)

In my opinion it looks realistic enough. Your Youtube driver with his ugly yellow Corvette never stays on it long enough to really get the tires to the necessary temperature. GT5 has that right, in some of the sequences the AMG Merc doesn't produce smoke even though it is going sideways. There you go for real life proof:

Nice work UKO. someone had to go slide instore...
N1 tires seem more grippy than before like n2 or 3.
im not worried about the smoke effect ,as said its a demo.
At 1:30 ive never seen a jersey barrier move in any other vids.
I hate invisible walls and indestructable plastic tape haha

LOL at that corvette driver....
it takes alot of tire heat to make good smoke.
I wonder if gt5 will have tire temps and will it make more smoke the hotter it gets?

If the smoke looked like that I wouldn't complain:)

Look at 0.14 in that video, when he pulls the handbrake. Suddenly a nuclear mushroom appears, but it disappear just as quickly:D

edit

I think the smoke looks much better in this video:)

Fredde_swe has it put correctly, the smoke is toggled by an on/off switch 👎

Who knows what build we'll get for the actual game tho.

Knowing PD, I am sure that they experimented with the smoke to find the best middle ground. You want the smoke to look good (i think it does) but you also dont want to strain the cpu and also impair the vision of other drivers by having too much smoke. besides this isnt the final build, who knows what the retail version is gunna look like...
