Post Number

Hey guyz,

If y'all remember, on the old GTPLite, there was the post number under the Location of the members. I really liked seeing it there so I don't need to click and click and click to go on a profile.

Wouldn't it be great if we could see the post number on the new themes ???

(Jordan, take that as a suggestion pleeeeeze :D)

you know you can click on the member's avatar and get that information, right?

Yes... That is why I said that would be useful so people don't need to go every member's profile to know how much post they got... :)

Ok, but I guess I'm just wondering why it's so important to know everyone's post count. :)

Well, sometimes the number of post shows the seniority of the members. If a member got 100 posts, you know he registered not so long ago, and a member who got 10,000+ posts, you know he's a old from here. Also, when you want to know your own number of posts, this is useful. It's all these little things about that, that I like to know :)

I think this answers it pretty well:

IIRC Jordan took it off of the post area to help stop spamming to increase their postcount. :)

All the reasons you listed are just as easy to click on the members avatar. I can see why y ou believe it to be important, but to be honest IMHO, it's just not needed.

Jordan may feel differently though:)

Likewise, there's some of us (me!) that have been here over 4 years and don't yet have 5000 posts, but then there's a lot of members that have more than that in much less time. With a few notable exceptions, these member's post quality to post quanitity ratio are rather unimpressive...

How many posts they have is, to me, irrelevant. A new member can join up and from his first post, maek more sense and be a better member than someone with almost 16000 posts who's name begins with F (I'm not thinking of any member in particluar, like any member who might also be a mod, or anything ;)) but joking aside, you get the picture. What difference does the ammount of posts someone makes on here have to how senior they are or how well they post, none imo. and like Pupik said, there's newer member's than him who have more posts, hell I've got more posts than Jordan, and you don't get more senior than him.

Pupik, L4S well said. I think the quality posts marker is a much better indicator of a good contributor to the GTP community.

That is why Jordan removed the visibe post count.

The return of posts counts has been asked for many times, and each time the staff comes back with the same answer.

Post Count is the most important thing on Forums. Can you imagine a world without post count? Everything would be totally wrong because I dont know how many posts ive done! Chaos! And then the pain is so much that I commit suicide! (Ahh sarcasm)

Post count doesnt really matter to me, its just a way so people spam and spam more trying to raise post count to get Custom Avys or Custom Titles. Then they keep spamming to make themselves look good and senior and respected. Plain stupid. I post because I like GTP, not for post count

it doesn't matter cuz you posts gonna be good weather you have 5 or 5 million like this one get rad rep points

edit: w00t! 1,197th post!~!!

not always, perhaps, people say things about books when the topic is cars for example. thats not a good post.

I couldn't even tell you how many post I have, I think it's high 11's or low 12's not sure though, I never look. I remember the time when we had them under our avatars and you'd constantly see 500th, 1000th,etc. post thread, it got annoying real quick.

Cool! This post lost me 30 reputation points! I don't know if I can sustain that level of quality for very long, but if I can, my goal of zero rep points is within reach :dopey:👍 Can we create an "anti-quality posts" badge for those of us who continously spam the boards with useless drivel?

It's true, some people who join will make about 20 posts a day, and have more posts after 3 months than some members do after 3 years. Not that there's anything wrong with it, it's just that post cout is not neccessarily an indication of seniority/knowledge.

Thats me, 1500+ posts in 4 months. 30 rep points. :ouch:

Sorry, but don't look for post counts to come back to threads any time soon. Trust me, we're all far better off without them. You'd be surprised how one little number can have such a huge effect on the behavior of thousands of people!
