Hello Everyone,

I searched the forums to see if a thread like this had been started before, and I didn't see anything similar, so here we go...

The reason I am starting this thread is so that all forum users would have the opportunity to get help/feedback on how to improve their laptimes in GT5P.

The idea I had is that drivers who are having a particularly difficult time with a certain track/car combo could post a replay of their current best lap at that track and, hopefully, get some constructive feedback from other drivers who could download and watch their replays and see what aspects of the lap could be improved upon (No matter how fast you are, there is always room for improvement, right? :dopey:)

Sometimes we all get so immersed in bad driving habits/styles that we "can't see the forest for the trees" so to speak, and a little constructive feedback from someone else may just be what the doctor ordered.

Now, I realize that it is quite possible (probable) that not everyone who needs help will get a response/feedback to their post, but maybe, just maybe, something like this would be really helpful to some of you out there. Although I can't think of anything to post right now, I know that if this thread is even remotely successful, I will certainly be offering up my own replays for feedback--all jokes aside, I need all the help I can get sometimes

So, to all of you out there who are currently struggling with a certain car or track in GT5P--in an online event, time trial, or even just in the single player mode of the game itself--please submit a description of what you need help with, along with a replay of a reasonably good representation of what is a good lap for you at this event. If you don't know how to post a replay, see this page

Also, to all of the many talented drivers here at the forum--with GTP tags or otherwise--if you get an opportunity, and have the time to do so, please help out your fellow drivers by offering a critique of their performance, especially if it is a car/track combo at which you excel.

I know that taking the time to download and closely analyze a replay can sometimes be a bit tedious, but hopefully there will be enough "Good Samaritans" here at GTPlanet to keep a thread like this going. If so, then maybe this will become a place where all drivers can go to get much needed help with improving their driving skills.

Finally, just as a courtesy to your fellow users who will (hopefully) be going to the trouble of downloading and watching your replay,
you might want to take several, if not all of the following steps before posting your query/replay here :

*Try and find out what is a fast laptime on the combo you are working on by checking the online laptime leaderboard thread here.

*Or, if it is a time trial you are working on, look up the top 100 laptimes at that track. Compare your time the fastest one listed (and maybe add at least two seconds to that one). You can use this link to look up the top 100 arcade mode time trial times at the track you are wondering about here. If your within say, two or three seconds, you probably shouldn't be worried, that's a pretty reasonable time 👍.

*Also, try downloading and watching one of the top ten replays of the combo you are struggling with, taking note of the line the driver uses, their breaking points, when they begin to apply throttle after breaking, how much throttle they apply, etc. Study, study, and study some more by watching the true master's in action. Much can be learned from simply being observant and watching the top ten replays. Of course, if they are cheaters :grumpy: :ouch: do not emulate them!

*Try spending at least two to three hours total with a given combo before posting here. There are only a select handful of drivers in the world who can sit down and post something even remotely close to their best possible laptime in a 30 minute to 1 hour session. Practice, Practice, and then Practice some more. If it still just isn't working for you, please post your replay and seek advice here.

* If you don't use it already, make sure you have the racing line turned on at all times. You can do that in the driving options menu before starting races or time trials. Certainly, the racing line is not correct at all times for all cars at all tracks, but I would venture to say it is about 80% accurate most of the time. So take advantage of it. It can teach you when to break, how long to break, when to apply throttle, etc.

Thanks everybody, and good luck finding the help you seek here :)

Definitely going to be posting a replay of me in 550pp Suzuka in a Clio to find out why I cannot seem to break the 2:17 barrier for the life of me.

Maybe because your using a 6 Speed instead of 5?

:p

LOL, maybe if you drive as aggressive as you talk you might go faster. -25 -0 ride height and soft (2) rr spring, car almost turns itself. With that said... 5 speed way to go with 250hp car at suzuka.

how do we post replays... i tried... i can't do it!

Just click on the link highlighted in blue at the end of this sentence in the first post--"If you don't know how to post a replay, see this page"--👍

The link that follows will tell you how to save a replay from your PS3 and post it here :)

from Kentucky?! How bout Nicky sucking big ones this year? Sorry for being off topic. That link was corect for me BTW.

Use the TZT setup, i shaved 2 seconds immediately.

Yeah, I was in the 17's and then immediately did a 2'14.500 in the clio with the TZT tune. But I changed it to R2/R1 tyre combination. I can post a replay if you guys want.

It would be great if you could post a replay Mad :) 👍

A laptime that low at Suzuka is really excellent. As far as I know,
there are only a handful of guys right now who are lapping in that range.

I think just about everybody who isn't that quick could learn quite a bit
from watching your replay. Suzuka is a very unforgiving track--in terms of even the tiniest mistakes. Selecting the wrong gear through the esses for example, can easily cost .5 per lap or more.

Thanks for the replay Mad, I'm gonna watch it now 👍

Note: It would be a good idea for anyone to take advantage of this opportunity and watch Mad94 in action. Laptimes this fast at Suzuka are very rare indeed.
I know I'll be taking notes :)

EDIT * Mad--Wow, that is a great lap. You really nail turn 1. I never would have thought you could enter that turn so fast :dunce: :dopey:

Also, the rest of the lap is just superb. Taking Dunlop at full throttle is a big key, but only possible if you've had a good run through the esses which you did.
Outstanding lap mate  really awesome. The last time I checked, my best was a 2'17.237 :scared:

Thanks Carl, I'm fairly happy with that lap. If I really pushed it a 14.3/.4 could be possible for me, but can't be bothered to tell you the truth. Thanks for watching it, hope you learnt something.👍

The only problem with r2/r1 is it oversteers like crazy. Once I get to the fast right hander and then the 3rd gear right hander combo section, I loop out. Is that setup reasonable for Racing or just for for hot laps? Better question: is the 2 14.5 a consistent time? I can run Mid 2 16 very consistent with r1/r1. All that said, I can usually win or at least be very close at end of race.

I can run high 14's/low 15's every lap. I find with R1/R1 i get too much understeer, so I switched to R2/R1. I race with my hot lap tune, works fine.👍

Green with Envy. I havent come across anyone in the last month that runs below 2 16 consistently. Some hit 2 15 with a draft, like me, but no 2 14's I have heard of (without a draft)

Have a look in the Online event lap times thread. Timppaq did a 2'13.9xx in the Clio once. Many Division 1 drivers are running in the 14's in the Clio.👍

as did FAK too 👍

Renault Clio Sport V6 2'13.952 GTP_Timppaq
Renault Clio Sport V6 2'13.973 FAK
Renault Clio Sport V6 2'14.558 GTP_Hyperspeed
Renault Clio Sport V6 2'14.5xx GTRP_RudiRaser
Renault Clio Sport V6 2'15.175 GTP_Stotty
Renault Clio Sport V6 2'15.883 GTP_Ren-Tec

I can post some replay when home.

I couldnt see the replay you put on here. Im not so impressed with the single lap time as I am with the consistent speed. All those guys use R2fr and R1rr? I did see someone used R3/R1 combo. Not sure who, but their time was faster than mine, lol.

Rudi Raser uses R3/R1 I think. I'd say most of those guys would be doing 14's/15's consistently.👍

R2 R1 here.

my best total race time was 11'14.408 (Suzy 550pp) when we used to run that with Rudi, he was right behind 👍

edit,

To be more on topic, If the replays would be youtube'd, it would be much easier to comment... :) also, I guess more people would comment in that case. I know it's not possible for everyone though.

That sounds like a great idea Timppaq 👍

Hopefully some more people will post their replays on youtube. I know holl01 has several up there. Just checked them out tonight for the first time. The 4'40 at the Nurburgring he has posted is just insane.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind to get a capture card and put some of mine on youtube. But not sure whether that'll ever happen.

 Thought you were going to bed Carl.:D
