i have an idea, why don't the admins have to make at least 1 intelligent, and funny thread in the rumble strip every day? i'm sure that would improve the maturity level around here.

i think if the older, smarter, more mature members started harassing the immature members they would eventually get pissy and leave, which would improve the forum somewhat. it's difficult though, since alot of immature members have names with viper in them, it's hard to separate them.

This is nonsense. You might want to decide what your point of view actually is before you start making suggestions. Do you see how you've contradicted yourself here? The point is that the forums should not act in a way so as to make people want to leave, they should act in a way so as to make people want to contribute actively, and in a positive manner. It doesn't matter how old a person is, or how long they have been a member, anyone can act responsibly or stupidly.

Also, in AUP, it says:
You will not behave in an abusive and/or hateful manner, and will not harrass, threaten, nor attack anyone.

... which is exactly what you are proposing to do!

It is the job of the more senior members, who have been around longer, and who know the score, to encourage the newer members into the :gtp: culture, and to behave in a way that is responsible and which encourages constructive and useful discussion. All this hate and blamestorming doesn't help anyone or anything, especially not the overall atmosphere.

We should be looking for ways to offer people carrots for adding to the forums, rather than sticks for detracting from them.

As with a lot of things, the most vocal people know the least, and I think that certainly applies to people who continually post along the lines of "Moderators should do this...", "Moderators should do that..." etc. It's usually fairly obvious that these people have not really thought about what it would be like to be a moderator.

Ban the idiots.

i agree.

gg, when i say 'driving members away' i'm talking about those who have announced their departure, such as josh and mistaX, the people who i'd rather have leave are the likes of viperguy or whatever the hell their names are. stupid people = leave, smart people = stay. capiche?

ps. when i said 'admins should...' i was being sarcastic. i don't think anyone should have to do anything, which is why i oppose character limitations.
