Moderators, do you really read / approve all posts in this forum? I have not had a single post display in a couple days. Why is that?

Yes, all first time posters get their posts checked. Check the AUP linked at the bottom of each page to see if your posts comply with the rules set out on this forum.
This thread for instance should have been posted in the Site Feedback area.
Where it will be moved to shortly.

OIC!

Thanks, cool site! Just frustrating when nothing i post shows up. i'll look this "AUP" thing

Also, this place doesnt appear to have the ability to PM? Just post on someone's wall?

You'll get that ability once your first regular forum post is approved.

Also, here's a general announcement to any other new members who may run across this thread. Odds are that if your post is not approved within about 12 hours, IT'S NOT GOING TO BE. Repeated posting of the same message will not help; you'll have to try something else. Here are common problems that may prevent posts from being approved:

  • Lack of capital letters, punctuation marks, and reasonable spelling. We're not going to cane you for misspelling a word, but we HAVE found that insisting on reasonable care in everybody's posts makes people more likely to make quality posts. In short - enforcing the little rules about proper grammar helps us with the bigger rules about being a good member.

  • A topic that is either wrong, not news, or already covered on the forum. Please understand we have several thousand active users - odds are good that a given topic is already covered. Feel free to add to existing discussions, and also feel free to start your own if there really isn't something that matches your intent. But if you expect our community to spend time interacting with you, it is up to you to make sure you won't be wasting that time posting something that's already known/solved/discussed.

  • A bad attitude. If your first post shows that you're going to be a problem to the community, we'd be idiots to approve you as a member.

I'm not accusing anyone in specific of these issues (and especially not the OP quoted here), but these three problems are responsible for 90% or more of the posts that never make it through the approval queue. If your posts aren't appearing in a reasonable length of time, rethink what you're posting.

Thanks for the thorough explanation.

Just got done reading AUP then ventured over to the 'banned user list' funny stuff on there. You guys run a tight ship here, a bit of an adjustment from other places but is probably best for keeping the riff-raff out! 👍

It's also because this place is so big. There is plenty of different nationalities here so crystal-clear English is needed.

I think this touches on one of the biggest problems that new users here have. Many people will just check "I agree" when confronted with a dense wall of verbiage in a license, EULA, AUP, whatever without actually reading it. Once it dawns on a newbie that yes, you really were expected to read it and yes, we really do mean it and actively enforce it, they follow the terms and become good, productive members. Some don't seem to like the fact they have to not only read but actually follow the rules. They usually end up on the banned user list.

In any case, welcome to GTP!

It says a new users first post needs verifying?

Well I had my first post accepted last week. I go to write my 2nd post today and it does not show up and says it has gone to be verified (or whatever the quick message was).

Any help?

I recently posted in the market forum, correctly following all the rules of the AUP and the market forum. My grammar and punctuation is above most posts. Granted,I can accept there are a tremendous amount of posts and few moderators, but I've seen many threads started after my initial post. This is more than greatly insulting. Please review or lift this "anti-spam" method on my account as I'm not an idiot.

If you are insulted by that, perhaps you need to reconsider your criteria for being offended.

Also, note that not EVERY new thread needs to be approved. Only the first thread or post made by a new user. Those new threads you are seeing are likely posted by members who have already been approved. Either that, or their threads entered the queue before yours.
