Polyphony Digital may have landed itself in some legal hot water after using a number of trademark logos, flags, symbols and building designs from the famous horse racing events held every year at Siena’s main piazza in Italy.

According to the officials, Polyphony Digital did not seek permission from the racing committee to use any features from the city or from the race, which was replicated in the Go Kart feature coming in Gran Turismo 5. Items rendered include the contrade flags, Siena’s famous Palazzo Pubblico and its tall bell tower, pastel-coloured palazzos and other trademarks were featured without granted permission.

The committee felt that in order to protect the heritage of the city, they could not allow companies to use their symbols as a form of marketing without express consent. They are currently in talks with their lawyers with regards to the type of action to be taken against Polyphony.

It can't be delayed, they will just ditch the track and release it as DLC if legal proceedings take a while.

, I'm just posting now to express my utter disgust for this type of thread, of course the game won't be delayed again, in the worst scenario they would have to remove any symbols and references to the said horse race and release the game without any trouble, or remove the whole track itself. Delaying again? Frankly, this is ridiculous and I'm glad it will be locked very soon. :D

Marketing?

PD is damned if they do, damned if they don't. If they hadn't have put them in, they'd be getting flack for not creating a real enough city.

I'm fairly certain that this won't do anything to the release date, at all.

The location has been immortalised in the game and they want to take action against PD?

I doubt it will cause a delay. At most that location will be removed from the final release, and action taken for it's use in advertising the game (Though I would presume any judge would just laugh it out of court).

They either come to an agreement and the track stays as it is, come to agreement and make the changes necessary, or just remove the track completely.

It won't cause a delay.

Some people are so dumb, they should be glad about the advertisement, I never head about that horse race before. Reminds me of the church of... was it Manchester?.. which wanted to sue Sony because the cathedral was used in Resistance Fall of Man.

If they remove the track (which I doubt will be the outcome) then it could take some extra time to re-organize some possible kart races in the GT Life mode but probably not time that will delay the game.

THis is the mental picture i get when i read this,

I hope they don't do this, think of the economic benefits they could get with this in their game.

The city was featured in James Bond: Quantum of Solace

^Agree

Articles like this mean very little at the moment, there making it public there pissed, once cooler heads avail I'm sure this matter will be resolved. Probably didn't like seeing go-karts on the track. :)

I have always been suprised how PD get away with accurately recreating areas without clearly asking permisson from every single brand or logo displayed on a track.

Just look at the New York and Hong Kong tracks, you really think PD went to every shop and said can we put this in our game! I guess PD just does it and hope no one can be bothered to sue them!

I guess, until now!

Robin.

Well, as they say: Any publicity is good publicity.

This could've easily been named "PD being sued over track"

But with a title like something ain't right.

Quite right, this can be beneficial for GT any way it goes - whether they lose the track or not.

Since when a city is trademarked? Like Rockstar asked New York their permission, removing some logos that ARE trademarked would take me 5 minutes. The circuit remain, this is a no story. Tho, if we lose the merry-go-round kart track, I wouldn't care less, it offers no challenge and is the worst Gran Turismo track of all time.

Is not going to be delayed for this stupid reason, if lawyers dont reach an agreement Polyphony is just going to remove those elements from the track an thats all.

Posted this on the way out to dinner and upon looking again it makes no sense this would delay the game... my bad... I read it wrong because of the way I saw it presented.

Does seem odd though that they would pick on PD now for this. Maybe a money grab.

Devedander is a bring of bad news, and i think he gets a thrill out of it! I'm not sure but he could be a resident troll.

Is it possible the Horse racing event was going on when they modeled the track? Maybe they didn't know or didn't care.

Or it could be a mistake and I misread it and admitted it bold facedly when I realized it didn't seem likely to be true?

Judging by your constant negative comments in the other threads I think you knew exactly what you were doing when you titled this thread.
