Polyphony Digital may have landed itself in some legal hot water after using a number of trademark logos, flags, symbols and building designs from the famous horse racing events held every year at Siena’s main piazza in Italy.
According to the officials, Polyphony Digital did not seek permission from the racing committee to use any features from the city or from the race, which was replicated in the Go Kart feature coming in Gran Turismo 5. Items rendered include the contrade flags, Siena’s famous Palazzo Pubblico and its tall bell tower, pastel-coloured palazzos and other trademarks were featured without granted permission.
The committee felt that in order to protect the heritage of the city, they could not allow companies to use their symbols as a form of marketing without express consent. They are currently in talks with their lawyers with regards to the type of action to be taken against Polyphony.
