Ok so lastr night after work i come home, start up the PS2 and go for a bit of a cruise. I finish my race, go back to the main screen, and what happens??!!?
POWER FAILURE
I've put countless hours into this game so i'm a little freaked out, i finish work today to discover my save is gone, 48 cars, 2,500,000 credits and countless hours of hard work drained.
So i ring the power company, what's there excuse???
"Sorry the power in your area has been shut of for scheduled maintenance"
ARRGGGG!!!
So after much huffing and puffing i've decided that maybe this isn't so bad. I can start again, learn from the mistakes i made and plough through heaps of the game pretty quickly.
Now i know what car to buy first which events to get involved in and which to avoid.
I hope this post can be of solice to anyone else who suffers the same fate.

That doesn't sound fun at all.

It's actually not Sony's fault, or your Memory Card's fault this time, I would tell the electric company to get ll your cars/money/licenses/races back :P

Good luck in the future.

HAHA wow what are the chances of that happening eh? power outage right during a save.... :dopey:

Try to imagine a power failure during the last lap of a 24 hours endurance race ...

That was exactly what happened to me but that was the last race I had to do to get 100%. These People also came and took my family hostage and I had to get too 100% by playing non-stop, without turning the playstation off. Anyway I played non-stop for 3 weeks, and passed the finish line on the last lap at 23h 59sec, so i had to do another lap. Anyway I had to do the whole lap again, and got around the last corner, I could see the finish line. (I forgot to add, if i made it, I got my family back, and 3 Billion dollars) Then the power went off, because some guy at the plant accepted a dare to put his tongue on a 10,000 volt generator...

I was trying not to.

My PS2 was on for 153 straight hours. I was getting DTs on the last lap.

claim some compensation
get some $$$ for it
say it has caused you ongoing psychological stress

I had my B-Spec driver do the second Sarthe race while I was at work, it finished the race, but as I was coming home to find myself with a new Speed 8, the power goes out! Luckily, my save was alright, but my B-Spec driver had to do it all over again. Ahwell. :indiff:

Not my day eithe rman, for some reason my GT4 locked up 17 hours into the 'ring 24hour race today :( Maybe running GT4 off the HDD make it hotter :(

As mentioned above, you can copy the game files between memory cards. So, if you go buy a second card you can copy your saved-game data to that.

To copy the data, just turn on the PS2 with no disk, it will boot into a mode that allows you to manage the cards and files. Select the card with your current save, then select the save itself from the next screen. Then copy the file. The whole process takes maybe 2 minutes and will save you from similar future heart-ache!

And before you copy it, make sure it loads. I got careless with that, and actually copied a corrupted save over my only other copy, before I knew it was corrupted. Now I make sure it loads, reset and copy, and once in a while GameShark it over to my laptop.

I know how it feels

I don't see how your memory card has nothing on it. You didn't mention that the power outage was during a save. If you have the "Auto Save" off, the game still would save by selecting a car or after winning a race. I challenge anyone to have the "Auto save" turn off and do a race, then go back to the main screen. Then pull the power cord out of your PS2. I bet you'll still have all your information on your card. It's the same thing.

You may have been gutted but I got gutted, skinned and sliced into beef jerky! After about 3 1/2 weeks of playing, my data got corrupted at 94.6%!!! Had to start ALL OVER AGAIN.

But it wasn't that bad. I got 100% in about 2 weeks with nearly 45,000 A-Spec points. Not bad. :D

AMEN! The $25.00 for the extra card is money well spent.

Here's another good "Save your game" strategy. I have 3 memory cards for all the other games I have, but what I've done with GT4 is this.

1. I maked all 3 cards (#1,2,3)
2. Then I broke up the cars in my garage to a particular card. (I got all "American & Japan & Korea") cars on 1 card.
3. Then I put all "European Cars" on card #2
4. Memory card #3 is for me to fool around with. Any Idea's I get in mind or read about from this forum will get experimented on this card.
5. All race memory from cards #1 & 2 are identical.

The reason why I choose to do this is because of fear of loosing/corrupt memory.
Think about it, the basic memory card is 8mm. It's to risky to try and put all 700+ cars one 1 card. That may cause these faulty problems, expecially if you have other games save on the card. I'm a guy who want ALL cars in the game in my garage, no matter what. I would never use just 1 card for a game car list this huge.

That's the reason why I have a backup on memory card 2. If I'd lose my savegame now I'd probably sell GT4 all together because I don't feel like doing the licenses + missions again.

I've had a similar thing happen on GTA - San Andreas. Just completed a really hard mission, taken quite a few attempts to acheive, on the way to a safe house to save my game and BANG - NO POWER!!! :grumpy:

Luckily, it didn't take me as long to complete second time around...

This is a very interesting thread. Losing power while playing GT4. That is a nightmare to me and i will prolly have a heart attack. I thought i was the only one that thought while doing the 24 Hr endurance race the power would cut out on the last lap "who would think such thing". What a terrible feeling. But luckily this has never happend to me. I took my autosave off because its just annoying when it saves the game and pauses everytime ur going to places in the Simulation mode menu. But i do frequently save the game at my home. It's a habit. keep in mind im 99.4% done and i dont kno if i feel like going much further so i dont think i have to worry about this no more. I hope not. :) :)

Practically every time we have even a tiny storm around here we lose the power for seconds or minutes. I was worried that something similar would happen during some long race. So I plugged my PS2 into the UPS for my server. No worries, as long as the power comes back within 30-40 minutes. :)

I back my save up on my second memory card regularly 8)

yeah need to do that also... my mate erased his little brother's GT4 data by accident also, he was crying his eyes out the little fella.

Wait a minute, you are telling me that if i have a power failure during the time i play GT4, not matter what, driving, in the garage, saving.. it will delete all my saved games??
WTF..

Yes...we are all going to believe a group of criminals took your family hostage, demanded you beat a video game by playing non stop or you would never see your family again? And then oh so coiencidentally some guy sticks his tongue on a 10K Volt generator (I know 6 year olds that know better).

But anyways,I had this happen to me on GTA:SA but when i was copying data.

I was copying data since I was 1/2 way through the 2nd island.I like to copy data when I beat a certain point in a game i will copy the data from card to card so I can cheat and have fun on 1 card and maybe cheat-beat it and then hard-work beat it on the other card so I can say I beat it fairly. I was copying data and after it copied I went to load it and BOTH SAVES were corrupted! It took me so much hard work for what?A big corrupted data file on my memory card.

I broke 2 controllers and cursed out my wall because of this.

I lost my game on 43%, but nothing to do with a power outage. I somehow managed to pull the power lead out of the PS2 while it was saving. Bloody plank, I didn't even know until the next day, when I got the dreaded "corrupt data" message. Now on 62% again, just hope nothing goes wrong this time.

This has happened to me also, except on GT3. My computer and my PS2 are both plugged into the same power strip, although this was something that slipped my mind when I needed to remember it, lol. Well, my computer locked up and won't do anything, so I cut the power to restart. Well, of course I forgot I was saving my GT3 data at the time, and all was lost. Never really got never that level of completion again on that game, so it better not happen now, lol.

I worried about this happening also, so I plugged my PS2 into my server's UPS so if the power goes I have about 20-30 minutes of battery backup for the power to come back on before it dies completely. The normal power outage around my area is way less than that so I feel a lot safer. If you are really paranoid a UPS costs less than a DFP...
