i like it better than the hp and weight restrictions because it gives you a range of cars that are competitive with one an other. in the weight/hp rooms it always seams to come down to 1 or 2 cars if youre not in one of those youre toast. As long as you all are in cars of the same flavor, aka street cars, RM's, race cars ect i find the PP system works very well.
I think that heavily depends on what class of road cars you're talking about. Some antique, lightweight, & kei cars get a lot more outliers in the PP system than the hp/weight restriction.
Sports cars or high performance road cars seem to be a little more sensibly put together with a PP#.
If you read the 450PP Tuners club thread from beginning to end (I have, it's quite an interesting discussion that goes on there)... You will see how that club has mutated over time, and why. They went from being a solely 450PP racing tires restriction... And now it's a theme night, no RM etc, with either sports tires or comfort tires. And there's at least 2 cars that are apparently banned. And even within their themes, there seems to be trends. For example, I saw there was a Euro Sedan night, excluding 4wd. My 1st thought was - that's really going to be BMW night. And sure enough, next day lots of comments about the BMWs leading in races, and how there were no French or Italian cars raced.
I'm not saying PP isn't a useful restriction. But I don't think it's any more or less inclusive/exclusive or overall better or worse than hp/weight. It's just DIFFERENT, and allows a different selection within the restriction, not necessarily broader variety though. Whichever method of restriction you use, if you really want a mechanically fair race, you're going to have to restrict in other ways. Even within car types, there's always outliers.
