Preliminary testing : Sportbikes at Nurburgring

I have been enjoying myself taking the sportbikes around the 'Nurb and thought I would share some results with you folks.

6. MORIWAKI HONDA CBR600RR - 7'59.225

This was the first bike I took out for the 'testing' and I should probably take it out again and improve the time. It was really fidgety upon first impression and it seemed I had to fight it often.

5. TRIUMPH DAYTONA 650 - 7'54.909

This bike just seemed sluggish. It seemed to accelerate slowly and reach the limiter too quickly. Not a difficult bike to drive but then again I wasn't going very fast.

4. SUZUKI GSX-R600 - 7'50.390

Nice ride. Very smooth. Love the engine note. These Suzuki's handle very well.

3. HONDA CBR600RR - 7'48.681

Tourist Trophy loves this bike (perhaps because it's in the intro video?) Not difficult to drive at all. I became brazen and pushed it a little too hard and spent a second or so in the kitty litter. It was the leader by a good margin for a while though.

2. YAMAHA YZF-R6 - 7'48.197

I like the Yamahas and this is one fast bike. It was a wild ride though. The back end flicked back and forth and I almost spilled on more than one occasion. Don't know how much more I could coax out of it.

1. KAWASAKI Ninja ZX-6R - 7'46.046

This thing is a monster! It wanted to throw me off often and it succeeded often. Doesn't like Flugplatz. Becomes very unsettled over bumps at high speed but, wow, the speed it can attain. Love the engine in this thing. Sure it is 636cc but I won't hold that against it.


I should note that I wasn't trying to set fast laps but just get a feeling for each bike. I only did two laps or so in each bike (Moriwaki aside, which only got one). I didn't lean until the long straight and each bike had a wheelie or a wheelie attempt en route.


These times will definitely change the more time I spend with the bikes but I have started throwing the litre sportbikes around the ring now. (The YZF-R1 got a 7'42.642 it's first time out)

I thought MORIWAKI was the quickest
since it looks like a tuned bike
 
That video is pretty sweet, alright. I watched it and then took out my Honda VFR400R '89 and managed a 7'58.736

I like the tip he gives about aiming for the tree on the way to the karussel.
 
shame we didnt get too see him wring it up the long straight and down the hill, might have got some tips on keeping mine on the road, everytime i lose it going under the bridge or if i make it past ther then i lose it under braking on the downhill section. 200mph and those bumps are brutal.

Enjoy! I just gave it a whirl and got a heart-wrenching 7'26. Although I was all over the place (lots of grass, but no walls)

I know can go faster, the gear ratios need lengthening for starters and the suspension needs tweaking because those bumps are lap breakers.

going on the grass doesnt mean your gonna drop the bike, it can be controlled, like the guy has just shown and looking at the video it doesnt look like its been edited, I was watching the laptimer and there werent any errors in that, which there most likely would be if the video had been edited. please be more specific as to what you think has been edited. Is that just the standard cbr 600rr and if so it's a quick time considering it looks like he's not going as fast as one could at some sections.

so, youre tell me you can lean a road bike on the grass at 100mph (presuming, even in kph thats what, 40-60mph?) and not drop it? O_o

when i said the track looked edited, i was compairing it to the gt4 which ive done more than a few laps on. in some places it looks like teh track was widen and slightly straightened out. of course this could be the narrowness of a bike, but, i use the bumper cam since there isnt a proper cockpit view.

i never said he edited/hacked/cheated to achieve his laptime.

I got a 7.02, too bad i didn't break the 7minute mark. I just can't open the throttle up on one or two bumpy sections of the track because the bike is all over the place, i need to slow right down to get pass safely. :dunce:

@hockeycoatch - i tried a hayabusa on the nürburgring .
pretty hard to ride with this bike compare to a sportbikes because you cant go that low. the footrest always hit the ground .
well i did a 7:29

ps. a zx6r do a 7:21
