I'm having a really hard time with the Lotus Elise cup... Wondering if there was any insight as to a better way to tune/upgrade my car, or which car to use...

Use the motorsport Elise, easy on the engine tuning and hard on the chassis tuning!

I found this a difficult series as for some reason my driving style provokes mega-oversteer in the Elise (I'm fine with the NSX and the RUFs, so go figure). It's the only series I had to run TCS for.

That series was difficult but lots of fun, Ive done it a couple of times I got the same color prize car twice, PINK can you believe it

Definitely the Motorsport Elise. After I got mine tuned the way I like it, the series was not too bad.

In fact, I liked the car so much, I stayed in it and cleaned up the British GT Cup with no problems.:janitor: Still not ready to change cars, I took it back to the Amateur league and won a couple more cars in the series races.

No way this thing can compete with the super cars in the Pro league :scared: , but it is one sweet little ride.

I can get you the settings I used if you like. Just let me know.

Maybe you just gave it too much power vat. :) Little buggy-ish cars don't handle 600hp well. :D

Yeah, those settings would help. I'd really appreciate it.

Funny Ive been hearing complaints about this from my mates. They were using motorsport elises as well. Personally I used the Elise 190 for this cup (well it is like 20kg lighter I think wichi is kinda odd) and I had no trouble at all.

I won the Rome race this morning but worked on qualifying for two days. The first five laps were neck and neck with the other two Motorsport Elises but I finally took the lead and it grew until I won by about seven seconds.

But my question is: Is there any way to get that car to stick to the ground a little better? My problem is loosing traction in the corners. Any suggestions?

Umm, i think you could raise the downforce up to give better turning, and put the Traction Control 1 or 2 higher.

I don't think you can adjust downforce. And I had the TCS set at 2 but I don't think I had any ACM at all. I bet that might help since the power wasn't the real problem.

I was also running pretty hard suspension and low ride height, medium camber (less in front) and toe at +.5 -.5.

It's especially bad if you even graze a rumble strip (there's a thread about the Elise and rumble strips somewhere), which seems to flick the entire car around.

As my mate daan once opined "This thing is allergic to kerbs". Stay off 'em and you're laughing.

I'd suggest not dropping it too close to earth, and maybe setting Toe to +0.5/-0.5 (mild oversteer, with plenty of turn-in bite). Maybe set Camber to 2.5/2.0?

Spook... 2 out of 3 agreements... We differ on camber :D

Oversteer and understeer probs, best fiddle with the LSD - but ensure you save your settings before you mess, so that you can get back to where you were.

Decel is for braking into a corner.
Init is for coasting around a corner
Accel is for full throtle just after the apex.

If the car refuses to turn, decrease the value a bit. If the cars tries to spin out, increase it a bit.

In theory, with the correct setup of an LSD, you can reduce the TCS a bit, and have a good cornering car.

On the other hand, many times I´ve spent so much time getting the LSD just right. Then just to praise myself, revert back to a previously saved setup before messing with the LSD just to show off to myself how wonderful I am at setting up a car. But then, sometimes I´ve found the original 'stock' setup easier to drive - hence quicker - go figure... :banghead:

N.

Ps, nice resurection of another year old thread.

Oh, like Famine said, another thing that will probably help is to try your best to stay off the Rumple Strips, as they tend to send the car into spins...

Gotta love the search function. The mods would be so proud.

I am scared of messing with the LSD and never do. But with your suggestion I might give it a try. So you are saying I should increase the LSD decel if the problem is the rear end swinging out?

Yeh stay of the curbs you just need more time in the car probably, did you ever try the Elise GT car in GT2 now that was a pig of a car to tame:eek:

Yes. I did. I never tamed it.

Well I sucessfully completed the series. Tuning up the LSD decel worked pretty well. But the MS Elise still takes some getting used to. Seems like it's just because it's so light and no downforce.

I am currently running the series, right now I'm at Rome. This is my favorite series so far. I have won all three races with the Elise 190, and my biggest win was by 13.xxx seconds at Apricott Hill because the Motorsports had to pit. I am running my camber at 2.8/2.2, LSD at 15/28/26, and ride height as low as it goes. I really don't have a problem with spinning when I run over the rumble strips, and my setup works well with my driving style.

Well, I bought a brand new MS Elise in that noxious bright green color, slapped T4s on it, changed the oil, and confidently headed down to Monaco.

And got my butt handed to me. Even the 190s were walking away from me in acceleration. I couldn't touch the other two MSEs. Handling was fine for the most part (I really love midengine cars) and the curbs didn't seem to be poison. I was just getting left on the straights.

So, I guess I'll start with race suspension and transmission, and see where that gets me. I may have to sandbag some power for emergencies.

I'm pretty sure the Lotuses in that series are maxed out in power... at least the MS Elises are because I maxed mine out and was merely matching their speed in the straights.

Thanks! I usually add power last but if it's hopeless it's hopeless. I'll see what Scotty can do for me.

I don't think they're maxed out but they do have some added hp. I got around and pulled away on most straights but it might be my gear ratios. My Elise 190 has a little over 260hp. I think you could win with about 245hp and good settings. I'm not sure about the MSE... I'm not using one but it might be easier with one, so you might not need as much hp.

Monaco is one of those courses where top speed means nothing. Turbo may give you a nice HP boost. But there's the issue of turbo lag, even though it's only turbo 1. I did my Lotus Cup with a MSE, but if I'm to race in Monaco with a 190, I would seriously consider going with NA 1 rather than Turbo 1. LSD balance/handling/acceleration definitely takes priority over top speed when tuning for this course.

Definitely. Monaco is my favorite course by far (which makes me wonder why I'm not particularly fond of Seattle). When you win at Cote you really feel like you've won. And too true about turbo not being very useful there.
