I am currently experiencing some drastic problems with GT4. I need to buy a car for the WRS, but whenever I goto any of the dearlerships, the game freezes on a black screen with the backround music still playing. It does the same thing for the Tuner garage, but it doesnt do it for the Uesd car lots, nor for any other part of GT Mode. Anyone know whats going on?

your disc is scratched?

Which PS2 model do you own? The original or slim model?

If you own the original PS2 (The big one), it may not work. I don't think Playstation made this game compatible to the old PS2. U may have to buy a part for it to work properly. If you have the new PS2 (the slim one), then your disc is scratched or faulty. Go back to the store you got it from and change it. Hope you still got your receipt.

I have the old PS2, the nice fat one, and the game run just fine! It's possible that he got a pirate copy of the game? Some illegal copy of PS2 game won't run because of the density of the media!

i have the good old black brick and the game runs fine.

:) was prolly talking about the 'chip' you need to put into ps2 to play pirate games.
which is also an idiocy.

Where did you read that? :banghead:
Stop saying stupidities like that... 🤬
I'm ready to bet 100.00$US (or more if you want) that it is working well...

My PS2 is over 4 years old and I don't have any problems running GT4. It's probably a dirty or scratched disc.

this may be another bug with gt4 i have heard too many cases of bugs with this game , hopefully forza and enthusia wont have any bugs on them.:grumpy:

mine too, mine is an old black brick, but i works just fine, sure it may be a second or two longer while loading, but the slim one is bad. it overheats too quickly. the fan is way too small

I agree with most. My PS2 is at least 4 years old and has been playing GT4 flawlessly for 2 months or so. Including many multiday runs with no overheating or other problems. The console is not the problem here...

ive had my ps2 on with gt4 running for almost a month with no problems. i have had it since 2000 or 2001. i forgot.

I have one of the old ones as well and mine has been running GT4 nonstop 24 hours pretty much since I got the game without turning it off (weeks) without problems.

I did have to clean the lens initialy since I hadnt used the thing in a while tho but GT4 was running it was my xport cd that wouldnt work. There is a thread on here somewhere telling how to do it.(voids warranty if you care).

That's a rumour.

I've run my slim one for over 24 hours straight... no problems whatsoever.

It probably helps the slim PS2 if you have it on the vertical stand - it can cool down easier and more efficiently due to the extra surface area exposed to the cooler air :)

Mines not one one, but I would imagine that would help.

Also, don't keep them on carpet either, it makes it alot hotter.

I'm going to bet it's not frozen. It's just loading very very very slowly.
That's what mine does anyway. I've only been playing GT4 for a week and it's getting worse quickly. At first it just took me 10 minutes of resetting to get into the game, now almost anything I do takes between 30 seconds and 8 minutes to load. :nervous:
My disk is not scratched at all, but my PS2 is very old.
(Strangely, GTA:SA runs fine, but the fan starts making noise after an hour or two)

I have a slim one, I wrap it in 17 layers of carpet and submerge it piping hot gravy.

i think not, do a search and you will find that the slim PS2 heats up quicker. im not saying this from experience, but from the views of alot of others, all in all the thik console is more resiliant.

my two cents go to bad disk, because GT3 stopped working for me when i had it, so i went out and bought another copy. try a friend's copy if you can and be your own judge.

Yes, they do heat up quickly, and do get very hot... but mine has never overheated.

All these people complain about the consoles overheating... what are the symptoms then? Not loading? Bursting into flames? Other than the console being very hot after use, I've had no problems.

hahaha burting into flames, i seriously imagined that for a second, but as long as it exists, ill stick to my trusty chunkey friend.

I would had stuck to mine, first gen ps2, but it decided to die after 48 hour marathon session of GTA:SA.

I put all the overheating stuff down to rumours, as -

1) all the old ps2 owners complain, anybody who has a slim ps2 doesnt
2) do you really think that sony would revise one of their best selling products with such a major flaw? "So, we just made this brand new small ps2.. but it bursts into flames after 10 minutes."

just to add to the anti-slim fireball notion, i've had gt4 on basically since it's been out, with a small week break once while i was not home. it's sitting horizontal on top of my a/v receiver, and it has shown no problems yet. maybe i got lucky and got a good one.

I have the slim, and even after a few hours, it gets hot, but not to the point of bursting in flames:lol: I guess it will just turn off as a safety precaution if it overheats. I just get a fan to blow on it whenever I'm doing one of the longer endurances, just to be safe.

Has anyone's slim PS2 ever overheated? If so, what happened?

To the thread creator's question, it is probably a scratched disc.

I have a pretty old PS2, and it works fine. Why would anyone get the slim PS2? The old PS2's are much cheaper. As for the disc, I suggest you return it to sony, because it has a 90-day warranty.

my game was working fine and now it doesnt load, any ideas how to unscratch a cd?
