I am seriously in a bad mood right now.
I wanted to get a PS3 Slim because I hear that GT6 works better on the slimmer models, but my sister refused me to get one because she said my PS3 fat's better because the slimmer ones don't have a cooling fan and that the freezing things it just the game and not my PS3 Fat.
And that made me confused, thinking that those problems everyone's having is just the game and not the original PS3's.
The only reason why I want one of the slimmer PS3's is because GTPlanet user "nursemorph" told me this.
"You may well run into trouble as, unless they've issued a fix that I am not aware of, the Fattys don't have the architecture to run the game like newer PS3s do which can result in them crashing regularly or not even loading the game up before crashing. There's a thread about this I posted in previously which has links to the PSN site about it:

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it is a global problem and one which, as far as I can tell, Sony have chosen to ignore. Might be worth looking out for used newer PS3s for sale (given a fair number of people will be selling now they've got a PS4)"

All my other PS3 games work fine on it but GT6, but can anyone who has Gran Turismo 6 tell me the issue here?

I have GT6 and a fat PS3. I will say the problem comes from GT6 that causes the freezing, not the fat PS3 because all my other games works perfect on it. I haven't played GT6 in awhile due to that and feel it will screw it up.

I have a slim and freezes sometimes , and stutters often when crossing the start line :( Its the game not your hardware I think

I'd forgotten I'd given that advice...it's unlike me to offer technical advice. However, while it was right, the key word in my advice was: Can. There are a significant number of people who have Fat PS3s and have encountered no issues whatsoever (or at least no more so than those with newer models) but there are also a lot of people who have encountered problems. Ultimately, GT6 is, generally, the main game that really causes issues due to the demands the game places on the system and it pushing the PS3 to it's limit. PS3's, like any other technological product, have improved over time due to better hardware in the system, as well as Firmware, so newer systems will be better placed to deal with more demands.

I guess I should apologise for not being clearer when I explained it initially. Ultimately, if your PS3 is playing the game with only the odd crash or error, then there is no need to get a newer system (Personally, my PS3 is the latest version from 18 months ago..the one with 500GB HDD and I have occasional crashes and freezes). I haven't kept up to date with this issue to know what has been happening in the last 4 months and whether it has got better or not.

I've been playing on a second hand original 60gb with no issues. I am however backing up my saves religiously due to my previous 60gb console dying completely prior to GT6 being released.

Thanks to everyone for telling me the issues.

It looks like I'm gonna have to wait for Gran Turismo 7 on the PS4.

PD isn't going to admit that there's a problem with their game causing people's system's to crash. But it's obvious that Gt6 is causing my ps3 to crash because it only happens when I play Gt6. I would at least like some answers from them so I know what I could do to prevent it.

I have the first gen Slim and it does not freeze at all.

I have a feeling the 90/45NM chips in your fat PS3's are causing it to overheat.

Kind of an old topic, but there was an even older topic discussing specific models having issues with the game more than others. I believe those were mainly backwards compatible fat PS3s & very early slim models. Apparently the hardware in some of those couldn't support the bandwidth of information from disc to RAM to HDD and back, so they tend to freeze or stutter more often than other models. Everything else would be attributed to the physical demands of the game on the PS3 hardware itself, and the new patches they add causing more problems than they fix.

I have a fat PS3 that is about three years old. It's the two port, not four port model. The only time it bogs down for a second is when damn near the entire field is pitting and positions are changing rapidly. Other than that, I have no issues with crashes or the game bogging. Fingers crossed. My console doesn't get hot either. The tv makes the room warm, though. The screen throws a ton of heat and I get worried that the ps3 is huffing the hit air in. I try to place it as far as I can from the screen. Problem is between the HDMI cables and cable running to my receiver, I can only place it just so, so everything reaches without tugging at ports and connections. I run a cooling fan on my g27, the fan on the ps3 seems to be doing it's job... but think I need to get a larger fan for the room. It is solely the "sim" room with a cockpit and blah blah.

Anyone having issues, have you opened up your consoles and inspected the state of the dust and fans? I just find it weird that some people have next to no issues, but others have massive issues. The only other problem I have is when a new driver hops back on the track during practice online.

On the other hand, it crashes my friends ps3 every time he tried to go into a room or start one at the ring. Then we realized the GPD, GPF, nordschliefe and 24hr - all derivatives crash of the track crash his console. Doesn't make sense.

The only track I ever had issues with was apricot hill for a while. But, it was intermittent and affected everyone. ...Not like this unfortunately.

Anyone who is having a lot of crashing, did you download multiple updates/patches all at once at some point?

Just to add to this thread my experience. My PS3 broke when I first brought GT6 so I brought a new one (the cheapest 12gb one). Since I brought it, in December, I have only played GT6 and had no issues

I guess I should note that as well. My console is dedicated to GT6 and have had any crashing or issues with certain cars or tracks that plagued people here and there. Only the issues that everyone would have, like said past apricot hill glitch when you enter the track and wait for cut scene to in car/whatever view cam change over.
