So I'm running Windows 7 and i've forgotten to download iTunes on my computer so I can run my iPod on my computer. I download iTunes 9 off of the Apple website and everytime I try to connect my iPod it gives me an error message saying it cannot connect to the iPhone (I don't know why it says iPhone). I tried older versions and those didn't even detect the iPod at all, I also tried reinstalling 9 a few times... no change. If there's other programs out there instead of iTunes so I can play my music from my iPod through my computer that'd be fine. I just only know of iTunes.

You could try Songbird with the Ipod plugin. I don't personally have an Ipod so I wouldn't know if the plugin worked the way you need it to but it's worth a try, also Songbirds interface is similar to ITunes.

My 32bit Windows 7 Home Premium and iTunes 9.0.1.8 work fine. I don't remember having to do this but have you tried running it in compatibility mode?
