Problems trying to become a GT five racer

So I decided to bail on Xbox. I had a PlayStation one and a PlayStation two and I love GT 1-4. So I went out and bought a PlayStation three and gran turismo five.

I started the play station and put in the game desk. The first thing the game disc asked me to do was install the update. So I approved it. After the update was installed the game asked me if I wanted to install the entire disk to the hard drive. I figured I bought the console to play that video game so I approved the install of the entire game to the hard drive. After the game was installed I started the game. Initially it hung on the black load screen with the silver GT five emblem. The game would not start. So I restarted the console and the game still stuck on that same black screen with the silver emblem. So I figured I had a bad install. So I deleted the game data. I restarted the console. Then I started the game. This time the game wouldn't even get to the black load screen with the silver emblem. It offered to install the patch which I declined. And this time it hung on a black screen with nothing else on it.

So I don't know what to do. I can't get the game to start. I decided to try and reinstall the patch and I'm going to try that and see if it works. Anybody have any ideas?

My suggestion would be to start fresh and re-install the disc with internet access disabled. Go ahead and install the game data as prompted, and once finished, update from the internet.

That's what I was trying to do but after deleting all the data it won't even go to the initial load screen that offers to install the game to the hd. I'm downlOading the patch again now. I formatted the hd even. That's when I started getting the black screen.

with minour alteration to thats. once you have installed again all the patches.
You DO NOT have to install the full common data to the HDD, but the Game Will have Forced a minour install. After that runs.
Disable the Internet connection on your PS3 buy log out from PSN and reject PSN connection with the Circle button. Now shut down the Game using quit from the PS3 home menu.
Then disable the internet options buy selecting disable from settings>network settings>internet connection>disable...
Then run the Game. once you get to the GT5 home screen and do a few races.
Then you can re-enable the internet and then re-run the game.
GT5 dials Home to its Game servers all the time you are signed in, the network features of the game are ON all the time.
If the game freezes again with internet enabled you going to have to Sort out your networking.

If the install was not correct, go to your system settings and format your hard disk. Turn off the internet and put the game in the console. Follow the prompts and let it run the full install. If that doesn't work, call customer service.

I don't recall anyone on this forum having recurring corrupted data after reinstalling. :dunce:

You're best bet would be delete everything related to GT5, that is, the Game Data and the Save Data, then try reinstalling the game from your disc, before installing all of the updates.

I'm sorry your first experience with a PS3 and GT5 is so bumpy!

Thanks for the ideas guys. Turns out none of them worked. I wiped the game data, reinstalled the patch, formatted the hd, and even did a full system restore. No luck with any of that. So I figured I'd post what finally did work in case someone has the same issue.

I had to go to recovery and rebuild the database. Can't believe that's what did it.

Here's a link with instructions to get into recover: http://www.semperthree.com/ps3recoverymenu.html

Once again...thanks for the quick replies. You guys were on it! Now I'm gonna go drive all night. :)

I'm sorry, but until you learn how to construct coherent sentences and also learn correct word usage and how to spell (buy, by? minour?) you should not offer any advice in these forums. You're not bound by any rule to post into these forums (I know, neither am I) so please don't feel obliged to do so just because you think you know the answer. Let others with a better grasp of the English language handle it. Thank you.

It's called Helping. Such a nice person ^^^.

^^^See, this right here isn't called for, nor is it asked for. Lose the sarcasm jakhole.

I'm keenly aware of what the word "help" means. Is it truely helpful when one can barely read or understand what another is trying to say? It's obvious English isn't that persons main language, so to be fair to other readers, he/she shouldn't post assistance, or at the very least, be very cautious about what they type and take pains to make sure it's correct and legible. And neither should you. Seems we've had this run-in before. Let there not be a 3rd.
And, you know darn well that if I hadn't posted something about that person's horriffic used of the english language then someone else would. I also tried to word it in such a way that the poster might have a chance to understand what I was getting at. You on the other hand, not so much.

Now this is uncalled for. Just because you cannot understand what's written in a post, doesn't necessarily mean that others may not. You're not the to decide whether a person should learn English, and neither do you have a say in what a person can post or not.

If his usage of English is within the AUP (which if you remember, is linked on the bottom of every page), he can post anything. Only a moderator or admin can ask him to cease posting, and even then, only with a valid reason.

His command of the English language is not enough to warrant an infraction, and therefore, he has every right to post it. And unlike your post(s), his is actually helpful towards the original thread purpose 👍

And of all the time I've spent here, this is the first time I've seen anyone suggest that another person cease his posting, simply due to you not being able to understand what he's saying, hence my lengthy response. Reading a little more and trying to understand what's being said will be much better for you, rather than suggesting someone to stop posting. Remember that this is a global forum, and a large proportion of users do not use English as their first language :irked:

Also:

about that person's horriffic used of the english language

You will probably ask me to stop posting altogether, since I do not speak English as a first language, and possibly criticize my use of blue colour, since you might not be able to read it clearly 💡

Anyways, OP, glad it worked well for you :) Now enjoy the world of Gran Turismo (and face it's many bugs as well :sly:).

I believe that should be English. Also if you look around this forum, you will see many people that use textspeak in their posts. GraphiteGB was being very helpful by going through it step by step. There is no need to bash him for it.
