I thought I would begin working on a 'project car' on GT-5, and chose a crummy car as my starter car. I therefore purchased a 1997 Suzuki Alto Works RS-Z from the UCD, and began my job. The little Suzuki had 3091km on the clock, and began with a power output of 63bhp and a weight of 710kg. It's my job to improve that, so I present to you...

Project Alto-Ego

With its combination of long straights, twisting turns and uneven surfaces; Trial Mountain will by my testbed for Alto-Ego. I will be making frequent improvements to the car until the tuning is maxed out.

Here's my initial lap time of Trial Mountain, in the standard car with no tuning: 2:07:622
(Transmission - Auto; Tyres - Comfort Medium; driving line - on; TCS - 4; SRF - off; Active Steering - off; ASM - off; ABS - off; grip reduction - real; Mechanical Damage - light; CSS - 0)*

*This configuration will be used for all my runs, apart from tyres

Anyway; the first upgrades were:-

  • Window Weight Reduction
  • Sports Air Filter
  • Catalytic Converter: Sports
  • Sports Flywheel

Total price on upgrades: Cr. 5,400
New Power: 68bhp
New Weight: 700kg
New lap time: 2:07.174

So, only a slight improvement. Let's see if I can make any improvements next time. I'd also appreciate it if other GTPlaneters would post stories of their project cars on this thread. Thanks!

lol, love the title. however, i'd be far more interested in a slightly less craptacular car. cut your teeth on this one, and then move on to, say, an eg civic perhaps?

I'm doing the same right now, with some Standard-model Japanese cars (e.g. S13 Q's), and also a EK9 and a DC5, which I featured in my own GT5 fan-fiction.

I just used this car in the budget car challenge. By changing your transmission to manual and shifting at about..... seven thousand? RPM you can cut your lap times significantly. Really not overly positive on the 7k RPM, you'd have to check the tuning to get the more official number.

Sounds cool! I know it should be quite good when finished though, as i have a 100% fully modified Alto-Works Limited. Except with only the simplest suspension and no diffs.
Its a WONDERFUL little car, and is my absoloute favourite at the moment. Ive been in silly supercar rooms with it, and it came third in a sixteen car one lap race at the ring, because they kept crashing their Enzos and Mclarens. Lap time - 7:32.4. A reasonable time, i think, especially with her love of snap-oversteer. XD

Now, is your Alto the 2wd version? I think it was the Other alto i could have had at the time, but not sure...

Sorry, but I'm completely useless with manual.

I guarantee that a few laps working with manual transmission you will find your lap times get better by a second or two with out the need of further adjustment...maybe look at reducing your traction to 1.

I told a friend of mine to do that on Trial Mountain also using the standard GT-R '07 and after 7 laps managed to improve his time by 3 seconds. 👍

Thanks. I'll consider that.

The Diahatsu Cuore TR-XX is by far the greatest bad car. Mines fully decked with my tuning style, it just destroys tight tracks.

OK, with advice from some of the guys from the Forums (thanks to Smitz and shem ), I've done my runs in MT with TCS off. Latest upgrade to the Alto are:

Twin Plate Clutch
Stage 1 Weight Reduction
Sports Intake Manifold
Fixed Sports Suspension Kit

And my new lap time is... 2:05.644
